Amazing Club! 2/24/2011

Great deals on membership with special rates for young people that don't have as much money. I am 25 and joined for only $450 and my brother is 29 and he got a membership for around $750.\r \r Plenty of Equipment. Huge VERY CLEAN Locker Rooms with Steam Rooms.\r \r Beautiful views. Great Pool with lots of sun during the day.\r \r FREE Classes, Spin, Pilates, Yoga and a ton more! My girlfriend says the classes are amazing.\r \r And everyone at the Club is NICE.\r \r One area that is going to be fixed is the entrance and elevator. I know from the manager that they are getting a brand new beautiful entrance with a brand new private high speed elevator just for the Club. It is in the Richard Meier Building next door.\r \r \r \r more

Too expensive 7/24/2010

It could have been a very nice gym if the owners cared for it. The location is beautiful! Has a romantic feel of Brooklyn. But that's the only good thing about it. It's defiantly overpriced for what it's.Should be like $60 a month. It's not new, not that clean... When you go sign there they desperately push you to sign for the whole year, without giving any good discount for doing it and after it becomes very hard to cancel and get the money back. Pros: beautiful location Cons: too expensive and not flexible more

kinda falling apart 12/16/2009

Once had commanding views of bklyn and the city, mostly stolen by the new Meier building. Over-priced for what you get, at this point--they don't seem to realize they are no longer the only game in town. Most people seem to have gone elsewhere, equipment is never busy, so that is great. Sauna was a little smelly last time I used it. The pool is too warm, and not used by serious swimmers anymore, so I go elsewhere to swim. Employees are very nice, as are most of the members--none of that ridiculous attitude you find in other gyms. Pros: never busy, feels like family, laid-back Cons: poorly run more

Terrible gym 11/23/2009

I, like many of the other reviewers, joined this gym because of its proximity to my home. But, alas, the Crunch is just an extra block away and 100 times better. EAC is dirty, the equipment is old and is always broken, and the whole attitude is a joke. The manager doesn't care about the place, and it's completely falling apart. The basketball court and the pool are the only things that kept me there for awhile, but it's so poorly run that none of that even matters to me. If you are thinking of joining a gym, Don't do this one. They charged me 115$ per month, and the gym is a falling apart cesspool. Pros: A few of the people who work there Cons: Everything else about the place more

Sleazy Club 6/29/2009

I've been a member for 20 years, grandfathered in through the synagogue that shares the building, or I'd quit. The water in the pool is sometimes cloudy, too warm, and or over-chlorinated. The towels are flimsy, have holes and exfoliate the skin instead of absorbing water. The ceiling leaks on the equipment and in the locker rooms, the elevator is frequently broken, and the hot water heater breaks down. I've had too many cold showers. The manager, Lenny, loses his temper when suggestions are made, such as, ""Would you consider having the city install bike racks out front?"" or, ""Would it be possible to bring a couple of treadmills and spin bikes from the 10th floor down to the cardio room?"" or when you ask why the machines are missing parts he's surprised. Lenny mistreats his staff in front of members, and is rude to the members. Membership is low.The owners love this guy. Go figure. Pros: Light, airy, beautiful views. Cons: Nasty manager, broken machinery, leaky ceilings... more

scam artists 6/8/2009

This is a beautiful gym and convnenient, but it's falling down. Leaks in the roofs, mold could be growing, nasty showers with re-used shampoo bottles with mildew accumulating. Pool chemical off sometimes to elicit allergy attacks. Yoga room always freezing. Make sure you review their policy on injuries. If you can't use membership for some time due to injury or health, you really don't get that money or time back even with a doctor's note, unless you renew for the following year. They want your money. They want to give nothing back to you. They have questionable ethics. The hours are annoying. Pros: convenient location, pool, not crowded, space, views Cons: inconsistent information, rude, broken machines, leaks more

Best Club in NYC 4/27/2009

This outfit knows what they are doing. I have been a member for years and find these guys have the formula of success. you really have to experience being a member to know what makes Eastern so great. I here they have been around for 37 years or so. They must be doing something right. Huh! Pros: Never crowded, always clean and wonderfull staff Cons: restricted week end hours more

Avoid this place 12/20/2008

I used to be a member because of the proximity to where I live and the pool, but the rest of the facility has old, broken-down equipment. I never quite understood how the sales people came up with the enrollment fees and the rest of the staff are just plain rude. I haven't been to the crunch on flatbush but even from the outside, I can tell the equipment is way better and the rates advertised appear to be cheaper. I just wish they had a pool. Pros: Pool Cons: Everything else more

There are better gyms in the neighborhood. 4/4/2008

Staff is rude. Facilities are dirty and machines often down. Inconvenient hours. There are better gyms in the neighborhood. Pros: nice view of brooklyn Cons: rude staff and poor facilities more

Really rude staff, sporatic hours 9/5/2007

I joined this gym because it was close to home. After joining I discovered the hours are sporatic at best. Last night I went at 8:30 but it was closed though it's not supposed to close until 11:30. The hours are completely random. The employees are really rude, I've been yelled at (seriously) twice, being told WE'RE CLOSED as soon as I walk off the elevator. Run away. Pros: Not busy Cons: Rude staff, sporatic hours more

Dirty and Rude 12/15/2005

Bad energy... Everyone is very rude... I was showed around and noticed a lot of dust everywhere. Hours are also not very convenient.. more

Boy, I wish I had brought my calculator 9/12/2005

Upon touring the facility alone, I was immediately impressed. Good machines. Quiet. Amazing and clean lap pool- The works. When I decided I was ready to join and finally sat down with a sales rep, getting a price out of the guy was like pulling teeth! When I asked him what the monthly rate would be without a down payment, he said 'here's a calculator, figure it out'. The man couldn't even tell me the price. He was so rude and even mentioned that I 'looked like I could use a few weeks at a gym'. Check your extra pounds at the entrance and don't forget to bring your calculator if you decide to finance because you forgot to bring $900 in cash (he wanted me to pay a year in advance). For $90-100 per month, you might as well hit a Barton gym in the city. Pros: Clean, Quiet, Good Machines Cons: Rude staff, Expensive, Not Open on Fridays more
