Timothy Dowty of Cambridge Counseling Center in Las Vegas, NV, came off as a very unprofessional ""therapist"". My partner and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. We went in for marital counseling and were appalled at his aggressive personal attacks & lack of kindness. Dowty seemed to care more about getting his point across instead of helping us. We felt he was a very bad listener, and seemed to only listen enough to label us with his psychological jargon. Also, his body language communicated a lot from the start. His facial expressions and body position seemed to shift from positive/negative depending on who was talking -- the husband or wife. \r

Within the first 15 minutes of the session, I communicated to him that his comments weren't accurate & weren't coming off the right way. This upset him into making personal attacks & broad conclusions about me. It was only our first session as a couple with him, so he was in no place to say such conclusive statements. He proceeded to demand that I leave his office, and he started to speak to my partner like he was trying to get one of us on his side. He wouldn't allow me to finish my sentences & continued to interrupt while invalidating my experiences and calling me various words. It came off as unprofessional and immature behavior for a man who claims to have so much experience. Then, we each told him that we came in as a couple for MARRIAGE COUNSELING and we would leave together too. He then said that only ONE of us was his client -- not both of us -- since there is no such thing as marriage therapists in the legal world, and so I must leave. That made absolutely no sense to us, since he is listed as a ""Marriage and Family Therapist"" and I'm the one who made the appointment for us in the first place.\r

After the session, we were in shock. We felt that he crossed boundaries between client/therapist with his words. This therapy session was traumatizing for me. Clearly, he was not the right fit for us.
