This is one of the handful of estates in DC that allow public tours of both the house and gardens. Simply put, you won't find a more idyllic setting than strolling around the gardens of Dumbarton Oaks. It's actually surprising that they keep this property so well hidden. You don't even know it's there unless you're looking for it, but when you enter the space is huge. They have several differently-themed gardens and each is more beautiful than the next. Although they maintain the grounds year round, I recommend going in the spring and summer months when everything is in full bloom.
