Best

So I just finished up the bartending program over at Drinkmaster, and I had to write SOMETHING to commend the school and they're awesome staff on really exceeding my expectations....

Worst

I am giving Drink Master a 2-star rating because I have only had minimal interaction with them thus far, by phone and e-mail. I was very interested in taking a class with them, e...

Loved it! 10/21/2008

I graduated from DrinkMasters bartending school a couple of months ago. I was nervous to start classes because I had no previous experience at bartending. However, my anxiety quickly went away after only a few minutes of being in the class. The instructors were so approachable and treated everyone with respect. I thought it was good to be taught by 3 different instructors because it helped me gain more insight through a variety of suggestions, and ideas. The course was a lot of fun, and at the same time, I have learned so much. I definitely recommend this course! more

Best Bartending School 10/21/2008

I just completed the course at DrinkMaster bartending school and I had a great time! It was awesome to actually get behind the bar and get an authentic bartending experience. I had Anthony as an instructor, and he made the class fun and amusing. Overall, I was very impressed and my expectations were exceeded. more

Teachers that can teach......... 10/6/2008

I'm a teacher, and I am looking to bartend on the side. I visited another bartending school and immediately could see the difference in "teaching". Drinkmaster instructors are "teachers" as well as great barenders. I want to thank them for being so patient with me but also, challenging me to perform skills I never thought I could. I love martinis', and now I can make them 3 at time. more

BEST BARTENDING SCHOOL IN NEW ENGLAND! =) 9/28/2008

I've never written one of these, but drinkmaster deserves one. I graduated drinkmaster a little over a year ago and everything has been amazing since. I felt like I was already bartending for years when I left their course. They got me my first couple of jobs where I learned what it was like with actual customers. After that I started getting jobs at bigger events and even private parties. I have worked at bars, clubs, weddings, graduations etc. Their staff is always there if you need advice on getting a job or you just need to practice for a little bit. Thanks to DrinkMaster I am now making in a 4 hour shift of bartending more than I make in a week at my 9-5! I highly recommend this school for anybody looking for a warm staff, great learning environment, AND LOOKING TO HAVE FUN! Cons: Parking is a pain, but so is everywhere in Boston more

More than Expected. GREAT staff . 9/27/2008

First of all, I don't usually write these things, ..........but after having completed the Drinkmaster program, I'm so thankful for the experience and I just have to share. more

BEST week of my life... thanks DrinkMaster! 9/1/2008

I'm new to Boston and I needed a job asap. I've always wanted to bartend, so I figured why not just go for it and enrolled in their weeknight classes. Upon arriving I was greated at the door by two extremely friendly staff members, and one adorable puppy (the school mascot). more

I'm Bartending thanks to these guys! 6/7/2008

So many positive things to say about the staff at DrinkMaster. I received such a solid foundation at the school. My bartending co-workers couldn't believe that I had learned as much as I did. The bottom line is the committment of the Drinkmaster staff to their students is unsurpassed. After I graduated they rewrote my resume and coached me on exactly how to get a job. Every step of the way they gave me and from what I saw all of my classmates the support we all needed. They know what topics are important to cover in order to land a job. I am very grateful to Jeff, Jesse, Anthony, Jason and Fiona. Without them I wouldn't be making over $300 cash a night bartending. Pros: Committed Staff... They focus on getting their students bartending jobs. more

Decent bartending school... but not stellar 6/7/2008

I took a course here a few months ago and I thought it was okay, but not amazing. I barely learned anything about wines and beers, which is VERY important if you are going to work in a restaurant (most bars in Boston serve food also, unlike in NYC). They did a good job of teaching the common cocktails that you need to know. I think there could have been some aspects of the course to make it stronger. First, they didn't ask for feedback after the course to see what could have been improved. That is not a good sign. Second, as I mentioned, they spent way too little time on wines. Learning regions, varietals and pairing is really key in my opinion. It's not just about how to make Lemon Drops for a bunch of drunk college kids. Boston is a pretty high-end market and even sports bars take their food pretty seriously -- which means they want folks that know wines and beers. There could have also been more information about working as a bartender in a restaurant, to give students new to the industry an understanding of your overall responsibilities. Another key improvement - and I have no idea if other schools offer this - is to practice taking and completing orders using a live Point of Sale (POS) system. Lastly, I think they gave very little information on breaking into the industry. This is strategic, and let me tell you why: very few places will hire someone that has done "the course" but has not experience as a bartender. While this my sound discouraging, it is true most of the time. You're probably not going to get that first bartending job if you don't work up from a server/barback, or know an owner/manager that can hook you up. In conclusion, I would recommend two things if you are looking at bartending schools. One - research schools well and find one that takes a serious approach to more than just cocktails. Two - know before signing up for any course that you probably won't get hired to a bar just because you have the course under your belt. more

IMPRESSIVE 2/29/2008

The whole program they have over there is impressive. They give us step by step instructions that are organized and easy to follow and the smaller class size means we each get much more attention. Tomorrows my last day at DrinkMaster and then I get to go out and put my new bartending expertise to use. I can't wait. Pros: very convenient location and impressive school as a whole Cons: none more

Learned valuable tips that work in real world 2/28/2008

Before I went to DrinkMaster I didn?t have a clue on how to make a drink. I was amazed at how quickly I learned this new trade. The bartending tips they offered me in how to remember different drink recipes really worked. They've helped me numerous times in the bar I currently work at. Pros: Helpful tips more

A+ 2/28/2008

I think I can safely speak for everyone who?s gone to DrinkMaster when I say that the school was well worth the cost and the hours spent in class. I would be leaving a large tip if I were a customer at any of my instructor?s bars. They beat my college professors hands down. I give them an A+. more
