Lousey Experience 1/14/2011

I engaged Don's Ceilings & Walls, Inc. to smooth the acoustic ceilings in my home. The work involved applying a smooth plaster coating to the ceilings in three upstairs bedrooms and one hallway so that they would be similar in finish to the smooth ceilings downstairs. Prior to performing the work, I was told by the company owner Don McKinnon that once the smooth coating process was completed, only a light sanding would be required prior to painting and the ceilings would look just like the smooth ceilings elsewhere in the house. When I initially reviewed the completed plaster work, I brought to Don McKinnon’s attention several of my concerns. It appeared that the plaster work on the ceilings was sloppy and perhaps rushed as there were a significant number of deep trowel marks, uneven patches and rough areas of plaster. Don McKinnon assured me that this was normal and that only light sanding by the painters would result in the ceilings looking just as smooth as the ceilings downstairs. I also expressed my concern regarding the work that was done on the attic access door bullnose. The bullnose was very rough and unfinished, and the attic door was jagged and ill fitting. Don McKinnon again assured me that his recommended painters would be able to take care of the light sanding and painting, resulting in a smooth and even finish. The painters came out to my home twice in an attempt to smooth the plaster work done by Don’s Ceilings & Walls but were unsuccessful. I had a meeting with Don McKinnon and the painting contractor where everyone agreed that portions of the initial plaster work had not been done properly. Don McKinnon sent his plasters back to my home to repair the poor workmanship. The plasterers did fix many of the problems but left the attic access door unfinished. Don McKinnon told me that work was slow for his company and since he had no crews working at that time, to fix it myself or try to get the painters to do it. I have tried unsuccessfully to get the company to complete their work. Not recommended! more
