Best

by the couple of negative reviews here! We've been boarding our PB at Dog's Day Inn every other weekend for more than a year now and have nothing but good things to say about it! ...

Worst

We took our 3 month old puppy there to stay for 3 nights. When we got her back she smelled like piss and had fleas.

I LOVE Dog's Day Inn. I had my first visit there on 12/14/12 and dropped Leo (my pit-pointer mix) off to stay for three days.\r When I dropped him off the girls working were enthusiastic and comfortable with him. He is a big dog, with lot's of energy, and I could tell they were experienced and comfortable with anything he could throw at them. I am a dog trainer by trade, so to see a staff who greet a dog correctly and have such good body language is a big plus when I am looking at a kennel. They were flexible with scheduling, which is a HUGE help to me since I am constantly on the run.\r I love their homemade treats and got one for Leo (the way to Leo's heart is definitely through his stomach), and I was out the door. They encouraged me to feel free to call and check up on him any time. more

I felt perfectly safe leaving my dog, Dave, there. I was even happy that Dave would have some other canine playmates while we were gone. more

Our experience was overall a very positive one. I dropped my dog off on a Saturday afternoon. The neighborhood was quiet, with, of course, the exception of the barking dogs. more

My dog goes bonkers when we turn down the road, can't hardly control her from pulling me up the stairs into the reception area. She jumps up, gives all the front desk girls kisses, then races out the back door to the kennels. If my baby girl is this happy, then I know I've made the best choice! I've left her for weekends, and longer visits when Im lucky enough to vacation longer. Dog's Day Inn has the magic loving touch:) more

I've tried different boarding kennels all over the US for my Dobermans. Dog's Day Inn is the ONLY kennel where my dog did not return home stressed. I recently left my youngest male with them for 10 days. He came home tired but very relaxed. He did not experience any gastrointestinal upset even though it was a long stay and very very hot last week. I called to check on him several times and every time the staff gave me a thorough update, and were very knowledgeable about my dog and his daily behavior and activities. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner in person and chatting with her. From just our short conversation I gleaned that she has an incredible ability to read and understand dog behavior and a certain skill set that you just don't run across every day. We also spoke about the huge responsibility of the day to day operations of running a successful boarding kennel. I understand she has owned Dog's Day Inn for 10 years and that she and her staff devote every Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th, New Year's Day, etc. to taking care of people's pets. My overall impression of Dog's Day Inn is of a super clean, well managed, and overall exemplary facility. I should also add that I was provided with a surprise tour of every inch of the property prior to leaving my dog there. That is something you will not be allowed to do anywhere else. (I've tried) This policy alone speaks volumes! There are some lucky dogs in the Richmond Metro area whose owners know and trust Dog's Day Inn for their pet care needs! I have, and will, continue to recommend this kennel to my friends and co-workers. Five stars all the way! more

I have done avid research online and found the pricing is super competitive. They know my dog and they ALWAYS answer the phone. When searching for the perfect kennel last year I visited one and cancelled my reservation IMMEDIATELY. I then started calling and emailing no one returned my calls or emailed back. I thought to myself this would not be good if I wanted to check on my pet. Dogs Day Inn answered the phone EVERY TIME! I even thanked them for this and expressed how much it means to an owner of a beloved pet to know that someone is ALWAYS there to answer questions or update an owner. As for the others talking about a smell. I've had dogs all my life boarded many in many states if you don't get them a bath they stink. Do yourself a favor get them groomed before picking them up the groomer is absolutely wonderful and the prices are very reasonable. Do yourself a favor give these guys a shot you'll be glad you did more

I took my two dogs here for the first 6/4/2012

I took my two dogs here for the first time Wednesday 5/30/12 after reading a few good reviews and liking what I saw on their website. I was wrong in thinking I would like it for my fur babies though. When I dropped them off and I got the ""grand tour""...I right there wanted to take them somewhere else - but I didn't have time to shop around and book a new place because I had to catch a plane. It smelled like pee,and their kennels for bigger dogs are bare concrete with tiny weird semi-elevated bed thingies that looked horribly ucomfortable (I was told they put blankets in for them at night). I didn't get to see where the smaller dogs are kept as my Chi was originally going to stay with my Boxer as double occupancy but he ended up getting out of the bigger kennel so they had to separate them after I already had left. I also stressed that my Boxer was deaf and asked many times making sure they were OK with caring for a special needs dog and was assured it wouldn't be an issue. So fast forward to today when I picked them up (6/4/12) - Beau (my Chi) was fine which is as expected. Sadie (Boxer) has a few scratches on her and one pretty nasty gash that looks like it's on the verge of becoming infected now. I didn't notice it until I got her home, but I called up and asked why I wasn't informed that she was injured. I was told there was no report made and it was probably just a surface scratch. I reassured the woman it was more than a tiny scratch and then I was told maybe it was from her running out back and that the bamboo was cut down and she may have ran through some stumps and cut herself. I had 2 issues with this idea: first one being - why are you letting my DEAF dog run around by herself when I specifically told them she needed tight supervision during play, 2 - why are you leaving SHARP bamboo stumps where dogs run around and play?!?! I didn't ask for them to be bathed, but the fact that they saw she had peed in the kennel and didn't even try spot wiping the pee off of her face and ears is just disgusting to me and offensive that they would let my dog just be with urine on her. Not to mention that it's bizarre that they ""didn't see"" the gash on her elbow - with how scabbed it is there's no way they didn't see bright red blood on a pure white dog. Give me a break. The only positive thing is the staff is nice (although they sound annoyed when answering the phone) and the woman I spoke with when I called and complained was apologetic even though she was trying to explain away Sadie's cuts and gash. They will never get my business again, nor will they ever get a good review or referral from me. more

Owner Message
  • Welcome to Dog's Day Inn, where our goal is to provide your best friend with a safe haven, where you will know they are comfortable, loved, and in fact, having the time of their life! Come on in for a quick tour of everything we have to offer, because, yes, we are the very best!!! Here at Dog's Day Inn, we believe that pets are another member of the family. That's why we do everything we can to make your pet's stay here as comfortable as possible. We understand that some pets have special needs and we are prepared to do whatever is necessary to make their stay enjoyable, be it spending extra time with the shy or formerly abused, feeding extra food to the underweight or finicky, or playing extra hard with the youthful and vivacious. While we do love animals and are prepared to go the extra mile, if your pet has a serious medical condition, it may be best to leave him with a medical professional. Our kennels are equipped with large indoor/outdoor runs that are heated and/or cooled. We even leave a radio on 24 hours to comfort the dogs. Each kennel has an orthopedic kennel deck at all times, and at night we have tuck-ins with blankets and cookies for everyone at no additional charge. Each and every dog will get at least two play times a day, either alone or with friends or family. We feed Native Level 1 Lamb and Rice foods at no extra charge, but if your pet has a special diet or medication we can administer it. Before boarding your pet, we must see proof of shots. For dogs, we require a current rabies, bordetella (kennel cough), and yearly booster (DHLPP). Your dog may enjoy toys and small blankets from home, but we just can't be responsible for lost or damaged ones!! We proudly welcome all breeds. No Breed Restrictions!. Boarding services are offered 24 hours a day,365 days a year! We provide a fun, safe, and loving atmosphere for your special canine friend. Your dog will be housed in one of our three modern kennel buildings in a private climate controlled suite that has indoor/outdoor access at all times. Additionally, each and every guest receives a minimum of 2 exercise sessions per day. We offer complete and gentle grooming services Tuesday through Saturday. This includes stylish clips/trims with a soothing bath using a variety of all natural products, such as flea treatments, whiteners, and conditioning oatmeal. Get a pedicure (nail trim) and for fun or fashion have your dog's nails painted or hair dyed. We also offer the option of having your pet bathed and groomed before being picked up from boarding with us. Bathing is done 7 days a week, but only for the boarders on Sunday! We have gentle and experienced groomers for all breeds, large and small. Grooming services are also offered for cats,Meow! As a special service we also offer painless and permanent I.D. tattooing. For our customers with a flair for felines, our kitty boarders have a room all to themselves, away from the dogs. Each cat receives his very own three-story kitty condo, with a bottom level for the litter box,a middle level for food and water, and a top level where they can perch peacefully
