Loved It!!! 5/6/2010

After moving out here from California, this was my first exposure to a non-NYC wine bar, and I have to agree with a lot of positives that have been written. Prices are justified and the wine selection is broad enough for my palate to find comfort and adventure. Pros: The best more

A little Italy in Williamsburg 5/13/2009

This place is very vegetarian friendly. As a vegetarian I highly recommend it. I have written a longer review on my blog. Check it out at www.urbanherbivores. The review is under the same heading as what I have here. Pros: the selection Cons: not a great dessert menu more

Best Kept Secret? 4/10/2009

I stumbled into this place on a rainy weekend night when all of my usual Williamsburg spots were overrun with Hipsters, and I'm glad I did. They were about to close, but the staff was very accomodating and made me feel at home. It is very warm, cozy, and candle lit inside and gives you the feeling of an old world mom & pop place. I usually get bread & olive oil, and olives when I go to an Italian restaurant. What I got was this amazing flatbread, a chunk of the most delicous parmesan I've ever had, and some really tasty olives, not to mention the wine, which just brought together the whole experience. The staff was so warm and friendly, even though I could tell they were about to close. What a great experience, can't wait to go back! Pros: Excellent wine selection, excuisite snacks, friendly staff Cons: None that I encountered more

best little wine spot in w'burg 3/3/2009

splendid food, splendid wine, splendid service, splendid ambiance...by far the best little wine spot in williamsburg!! great for an intimate dinner, but these folks really know how to cater to larger parties, as well. highly recommended. more

Cent'Anni! 3/3/2009

D.O.C. wine bar is about as close to Italy as one can get amidst the hubbub of the Williamsburg social scene. With perfect lighting, low ceilings, candlelit tables, and a myriad of coloured place settings, this restaurant lifts the air right out of Sardinia and drops it back into Brooklyn so the wine-sippers and dinner-goers can step into a little secluded world for a couple of hours. Unlike many hip Italian restaurants popping up off Bedford, D.O.C. is not overrun with hipsters, the waitstaff is totally friendly, and the portions are filling. Plus there's a beautiful selection of wine. Perfect for a romantic date or meeting all your friends for a three course celebration, you can't go wrong with this place. Cent'Anni! Pros: decor, staff, wine more

A cool place to enjoy great food and wine 1/26/2009

If you love Italian food and Italians, ""the real ones"" you must try this wine bar !!! more

A lovely winebar 12/15/2007

The appeal is cozy, tables decorated with fresh produce, a rustic elegance that greets you as soon as you walk in the door. The warm ambience allowed us an escape from the cold, very windy night. Throughout our dinner , the service was excellent, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and helpful, giving us suggestions and answering our questions about the menu. While the wine and food blew us away, the bill did not ,prices are reasonable. more

Lovely, cozy date spot 7/22/2007

My date and I went to DOC Wine Bar this past Friday and had a lovely time (despite our waitress who apparently disliked us, but more on that later). Our waitress recommended a a wonderful glass of red wine for me that I loved and ordered for the rest of the night (and I'm usually a white wine drinker) and she recommended my date a nice glass of white. After our order was taken and water brought to the table, service seemed to go downhill. She forgot two of our dishes - the prosciutto with melon and plate of cheeses (and what's wine without cheese?!) - and after we finished our second glass of wine, she whisked our glasses off the table and didn't ask if we wanted another glass (which we did). We sat for about 20 minutes sipping water and trying to get her attention, which we never got. Luckily the other two waiters were very nice and friendly - we were given a dessert menu (upon request) and he took our order - dessert wine (moscato d'asti, yum!), tiramisu and salame di chocolate (?) - both was which was rich and delicious. (We wouldn't have ordered two desserts normally, but felt we had to because we hadn't gotten two of the dishes we had originally ordered.) After that, our servers seemed to have changed from our originally waitress to the man who took our dessert order because he came over to our table occasionally to see how we were doing, exchanging friendly banter with my date and even took a picture for us... until she placed the check on our table (NOT upon request). OVERALL however, we loved the ambiance, the food & the wine and, at times, even that we were left alone to talk and enjoy each other's company... just wondering why our waitress seemed not to want to serve us - maybe because we didn't order a bottle? Though we did drink enough to be monetarily equivalent to getting a bottle - or we would have, had she not just whisked away our glasses without a backward glance at us. more

Best place in williamsburg 7/3/2007

My boyfriend and I visited Doc wine bar last week for an intimate dinner for two in the outdoor-dining. Our evening was great starting off with glass of Prosecco for me and a glass of the special white wine for my boyfriend.WE had the special salad, which was delicious and the home made bread and cheese gnocchi, which was an unusual plate, simple but phenomenal. We finished with a desserts...tiramisu,amazing, and a chocolate mousse with pistacchio..heaven for me, paring with a glass of dessert wine, (was a good advice from our waiter). The service was great and greeted every customer with a smile. I would go back to Doc wine bar any time because great food and great people makes for a great time.I will celebrate my birthday here, my friends are going to love DOC like us. Pros: outdoor seating. amazing wines. romantic atmosphere.cool customers. Cons: MANHATTAN more

Great food, great wine, great staff, great find 5/8/2007

Extremely authentic. DELICIOUS!!!! A romantic wine bar, is like dining in Italy without traveling, the place can get very busy but the food and service is always first rate.A nice personal touch with the owners, husband and wife, coming out into the dining room and meeting every table...Very unique!! WE LOVED IT. Pros: wine list, ambiance, location, friendly owners more

Very romantic 1/21/2007

I really went for the Capresse Salad my roommate recomended, and found great wine, friendly service, and romantic Atmosfere!!! Angelo the waiter was really nice and helpful with the wine selection, the Tiramisu was a little too creamy (I expected amazing) I will totally go back but I would love it if they took credit card... my date had to walk to the closest ATM, we didn't know it was a cash only (oops!) But definitely worth it. Pros: Great wine Cons: Tiramisu and only cash more

A truly romantic night spot! 11/11/2006

This is by far one of my favorite spots in NYC. I have been here time and again, and never dissapointed. My one complaint is that the service can be a bit slow, but I tend to use this as an excuse to savor the rustic candlelit atmosphere and savor my wine. The cheese and italian cold cuts plate for two is awesome, the olives are great, and the panini and salds the best. My personal favorite is the mozzarella and tomato caprese- I've never tasted better mozarella in my life. a real gem! more

Amazing experience!! 10/21/2006

i've been there again on friday after a long time and i forgot how brilliant this place is. i got there at around 10 and place was still crowded, so we started at the bar with a glass of prosecco. the waiter was really nice chatting with us while he was hand washing the gorgeous wine glasses. he explained us that he has been working there since the beginning and that he just loves working there because it reminds him of italy..... i was just stunned by his genuine simple view of the place.... just like home he said. Pros: GREAT VIBE AMAZING WINE LIST AND AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD more

Sardinia in Williamsburg 8/7/2006

This is my favorite restaurant, period. Whenever I go to DOC I have a fantastic time. It's like home away from home. However, it's not for everyone. The menu is limited to very simple Sardinian specialties. They offer about 40 wines, but they're all Italian. You won't find a California pinot among them. But if you want to experience a relaxed, friendly staff serving unusual and rustic regional dishes then this is the place for you. Some of my favorites: the daily pastas are delicious. Try the pistokku bresaola or the anchovy crostini. Very often they have great specials, like the lasagna or the venison pate crostini. And the special cheese course is delicious as well (love that truffle cheese!) Have a glass of cannonau and don't forget the tirimisu, it's the best I've ever had, and I'm not a huge tirimisu fan, either. Basically it's a lot like what I imagine an italian village restaurant must be like, with a few Williamsburg hipsters tossed in. It's best for groups of 6 or fewer, but they can accomodate larger groups (maybe up to 12) at their big table in the back. The whole restaurant is pretty small, but they are planning an expansion in the fall so they should be better at taking groups. Pros: great food, wine and service Cons: the wine is a little pricey by the glass, typical NY prices more

BRAVO D.O.C. 5/27/2006

Fantastic, they have even improved with age! I can't wait to go back again and again... more

Best wine in the Best city 4/14/2006

Even after all of their positive press, D.O.C. continues to offer great service and a neighborhood feel. The food and wine are still among the best in the city as well, with freshness and quality at the forefront. The total package. I'm over the moon for this restaurant ! It's worth take the subway from manhattan I've loved their vibrant food for years.....and now, I can sit in the sun and relish their delightfully delicious talliere . Wow !!! The sun and the moon...D.O.C. Pros: Tiramisu, service, wine Cons: manhattan more

2 out of three aint bad 2/20/2006

i've been here 3 times. the first two times were absolutely perfect. the 3rd however, the waiter forgot to put in our order for food and we ended up waiting an hour for them (b/c they were really busy). they did comp us a dessert and glass of dessert wine however. i will go back b/c i love the atmosphere and food so much. perhaps try going on an off night when it is not so packed. Pros: atmosphere, yummy food, wine Cons: spotty service, can be pricy more

Very nice spot for a date, but bring some loot. 10/13/2005

Sitting on the corner of Nth 7th and Whythe, D.O.C Wine Bar is an exceptionally cozy little spot. The array of vino is impressive and they offer some delectable dishes. It's a tad pricy though; a decent bottle of wine and a platter of cheese and meats set us back $60 incl tip. Pros: Ambience, Location, Wine Selection Cons: Price, Uppity Clientele, Average Service more

Poorest Service Ever, Birthday Ruined! 9/22/2005

the decor and food are actually very good. but now i have learned the importance of SERVICE! i believe our server was also the proprietor. he was the worst server ever!! he clearly makes you feel unwelcomed and that you are bothering him by being there. he forgot one entree, forgot the 2nd bottle of wine, forgot to bring bread, we had to go to the kitchen on our own for the salt, vingar and oil. charged us $40 to bring in a cupcake for our friend's birthday, but did not advise this outrageous price. DON'T WASTE YOU MONEY HERE. spend your money at another place that actually appreciates your business. Pros: decor, food Cons: service more
