Adrienne F. sorry about your experience at demontes..i cant agree with your opinion about the place..i have been ordering for years and have referred people for years..i have gotten nothing but praises from everyone i have ever sent there..the place has the best food on staten island bar none and reading your post it sounds like your father before his passing also enjoyed the food for many years with no complaints..fred and larry are 2 great guys and have gone overboard with service when they have catered parties for my friends and family...if anything they always throw in extra food bread and salads..i find them very generous and grateful for the buisness...every year i see this buisness get larger and larger because of there reputation and i totally disagree with your opinion about demontes ..if you want great food for special occasions and great prices i wouldnt go anywhere but demontes.. more

My father shopped at DeMontes for many years and has spent many thousands of dollars there. He purchased food every day for many years. Sadly, my father, Anthony F. passed away on December 28th of 2011. The owners literally ripped me off for our Christmas Eve food. We received the wrong fish dinner, so on Christmas Day when I picked up my new order I brought back the fish from the evening before. It was so bad that nobody could eat it. The owners (Larry and Fred) tried to whisk me out of the back to wait for my order as other customers heard my complaint and they also chimed in about their mistakes that DeMonte's made on their previous orders. They were very nasty to me and would not make good on THEIR mistake. Then the taller owner (I always get their names mixed up) took $170.00 from me for the dinner which only cost $125.00. I feel that because my father was not there to defend me, they took advantage of my trusting nature - so I sent my uncle there Monday after Christmas to retrieve the $45.00 he ripped me off for. He knew exactly what he was doing. The shorter owner had the unmitigated gall to say to my uncle,""How do I know that she did not pocket the money and lie to her mother? My uncle then informed him that his partner already told him that I gave him the $170.00. I can't believe the way they treated us. I have heard many other customers complain that DeMonte's has made mistakes with their food also. Every year without fail they make mistakes on our orders. Once their freezer broke and they were so cheap, instead of throwing the food away, they sold it and it was rancid and we were sick from food poisoning. I am telling everyone I know about this terrible treatment I received. There are many other excellent Italian food stores on Staten Island. Now I go to these other stores and the food and service is much better. Also, they treat their employees like slaves and berate them in front of customers. Someone needs to call the health department about their horrible food practices. Please don't go there, you are taking a big chance that you may become ill from their food. more
