Great karate studio for kids! 7/7/2010

My kids love taking karate at Dawn Barnes Karate Kids in Redondo Beach. They can't get enough of it. Each sensei seems to work with each child's individual level to make sure each child progresses appropriately. It's a very friendly environment and it's fun to hang out and chat with the other parents while the kids are in class. The large open dojo with glass walls also allow you to enjoy watching your child during class. Pros: Teaches karate plus mixed martial arts more

BEST Karate for Toddlers & Best Instructors 6/29/2010

Our 4 year old twins Andres & Rene have been attending Dawn Barnes for several months. They have learned discipline and respect while at the same time having fun. They look forward to attending their class. It is clean and professional environment. We highly recommend this school. Pros: Self Esteem, Confidence, & Discipline more

We love Dawn Barn Karate kids! My two boys have been in their program for over 3 years. They are not only learning valuable martial arts skills but also life skills that will be with them forever. The teaching methods of the Sensei's are positive, consistent, and firm. They actually like working with kids and it shows! We would highly recommend this program. Best Southbay Dojo 6/10/2010

We've been with the Dojo for 3 years. One of my children is a Dragon in the Black Belt Club, one is a Lion and one getting ready to start Tiger Tots. We really like the life skills the Dojo teaches, as well as the confidence and respect that comes with learning martial arts. The Sensei's are all great and work well with the kids. more

Family Friendly Dojo 6/10/2010

I love it because my son loves it. His self confidence has soared since joining this school. My next big effort is to get him signed up for an all school tournament. He is still unsure/worried about that, but everything else he excels at. The location of the dojo is in a nice area too. So if I'm getting sleepy, I can just walk over to a couple different coffee houses. Pros: professional, friendly staff Cons: parking on PCH is sketchy more

A Great Experience 6/8/2010

My son absolutely loves karate!!! What I love about this sport itself, is the individuality it entails. There is no child left out of the game so to speak! Each child has a mission to accomplish- get that next belt!!! They dont want to stop and the more focus, respect and patience they conquer, the more disciplined they become! I am a firm believer that the the mind, body and spirit of a child can flourish when they are encouraged to practice these principles among themselves and in life in general! Great Karate for kids 6/8/2010

This place is great for kids. My son has been going for 3 years now and loves it! This is NOT an in-your-face type of karate studio where to Sensei's are yelling and abusing the kids. Just the opposite actually. All are extremely friendly and are providing a great place to learn while encouraging the kids to have fun. I would recommend it to parents with kids who want to learn a new skill and also to those who just want to get out their aggressions. In 3 years I have never had a single problem with any instructor and my son loves goes at least 3 days per week. Highly recommend! Fantastic Dojo for Kids 5/20/2010

My son has always been interested in doing Karate (thanks to Kung Fu Panda!) but I could never find a place we both liked. Karate Kids was our fourth try at finding a dojo that worked for both of us. cut to the chase: my son loves it and goes to about 5 classes a week (monthly price covers unlimited classes). Sensei Alec (especially) makes the classes fun and engaging and they have a great structure for belt testing. It's clean, has a great lobby where parents can wait (and watch, if they wish) and they keep the parents informed about what the kids are working on. We are very happy here and plan on staying for as long as the Kung Fu Panda fever lasts (2 years and counting ...) Pros: Structured, great for self-esteem building, learning control Cons: upsell on workshops and tourneys gets tiresome more

Wonderful Karate School 5/16/2010

After checking out numerous karate schools I chose this school because they deal just with kids and it was really close to home. I was pleasantly surprised on how large the dojos are and how clean the whole area is. All the staff are great, very friendly and helpful. My son has been going for a year now and working toward his black belt. He really enjoys going to classes. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. Pros: Inspiring, clean, large dojos more

Great Karate School! 5/1/2010

My 8 year old son has been in their program for a little over a year and he loves going to all of the classes and tournaments. The staff are great at what they do. They really understand how to work with kids to train them and motivate them to succeed. And I truly believe that the instructors work hard to try to inspire self-esteem in every student. Cleanest Dojo We Found 12/3/2008

Fantastic dojo for our kids and us as parents! This is the cleansest, nicest, and most upscale karate dojo we visited. Their free WiFi access allows me to get so much work done while my kids have a blast learning karate. more
