My experiences here are that the pizza is consistently 8 out 10, i.e. not quite Chicago Loop, but definitely better than most places in Birmingham, provided you are willing to pay...

Great supporters of the community! 4/27/2012

Not only is the food at phenomenal, but they are great supporters of the community. I have to disagree with a review below. If you walk into their establishment right now, you will see a wall full of stars purchased from patrons with 100% of proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They are more than willing to help out the community, and the restaurant's table toppers, FB page, and wall of stars that have raised a large number of funds for a ""child-focused nonprofit"" will show just that. Thank you for all that you do Dave's!!! more

No complaints here!! 4/24/2012

I've been eating out at Dave's for over five years, and year after year I think they're only getting better!! It may take a while for new things to be added to the menu but it's worth the wait. When they added the SweetTang and the Wade Special i didn't eat anything else there for weeks! And I hear they're working on new things now!! I don't really understand many of the bad reviews. Most of the times I eat there, it's pretty busy so there's obviously something good happening. I also know for a fact that they contribute a substantial amount to the surrounding community. I saw their gift certificates at the Shades Cahaba Elementary school's festival. They also are currently helping to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation and i remember a few years ago donating to the Susan G. Komen foundation through Dave's. Point is, they may not give products away every time they are asked, but I wouldn't accuse them of ignoring the community that clearly loves them. Overall: good food, good service, happy hour specials better than most bars. more

Good Pizza but does not give back to the community 1/5/2012

OK, I love Dave's Pizza. It's really quite good and the servers are great.\r \r Only complaint is that this establishment does not ""give back"" to the community. I know, it's their business what they do with their money, so maybe I should just shut-up, sit-down and eat . \r \r But I've worked on many fund raisers for many child-focused non-profits and Dave's is always on the list to ask for a prize... bottom line, they never help out. \r \r A free pizza or two here & there would be a great way for them to promote their yummy product and get the word out that they care about the families that support them and their neighbors. Other pizza places donate without hesitation, but never Dave's. Just saying... hope someone at Dave's reads this and thinks about the message they send out when they repeatedly say No to non-profits. more

AWESOME FOOD, ATMOSPHERE 6/22/2008

I highly recommend Dave's Pizza in Homewood. I order take out nearly every weekend. I recommend the Nutri Dave and PICK IT UP.... The girl at the counter is FINE!!! more

Cold Draft, frosted mugs, good selection 5/29/2008

Had to wait to be seated but service was good considering the place was packed. It was definitely worth the wait. Our server didn't know the wine list but no one cared; she was HOT, really HOT with great personality. I've been there for the lunch buffet before and it was good but the food and atmosphere at night are fantastic. Certainly best in town..........Best Pizza outside New York city. Pros: Frosted beer mugs, heated blankets for outside more

Bad service, uncooked pizza, dry sandwiches, high prices 12/6/2007

First of all, the old man at the cash register has to be one of the rudest people who I have ever handed money to willingly. If I wasn't with a big group, I would have turned around and walked out. The calzone and pizza dough is consistently undercooked. The prices are way too high. You'll get a better value and better pizza at a chain for almost half the price. If you want really good pizza, go to Davenports in Mountain Brook. It's amazing they stay in business in Homewood. Oh, and they apparently add a tip even if you don't leave one!!\r \r Don't waste your time. You'll be happier at Chucky Cheese. Pros: The electricity works Cons: high prices, bad service, undercooked pizza, dry sandwiches more

Really good pizza, very high prices, and problems with their service 10/14/2007

My experiences here are that the pizza is consistently 8 out 10, i.e. not quite Chicago Loop, but definitely better than most places in Birmingham, provided you are willing to pay top dollar, i.e. $19 for a medium pizza and $25 for a large.\r \r The seeting area is informal but large, with a good array of TV's on various sports stations. There's superb outdoor seating. So if you have lots of time to hang out, it is actually a great place to sit.\r \r Evaluating the service is tricky. The young people who work at Dave's as waitstaff are genuinely sweet, nice and helpful. Their kind demeanors are undermined by the godawful slowness of the place, and the difficulty getting the attention of these nice servers, who are (obviously) totally overworked, running their tails off and not quite able to keep up. They also have trouble keeping track of ""special orders"" (i.e. make this pizza only half cheese, or whatever). I have to guess the system is just overloaded by low staff.\r \r When I have had the chance to raise this to someone at manager level the response has been on the order of (paraphrasing, not actual words) 'so what. That's the way we do things here.' i.e. No effort made to correct, mollify or even fake looking sincerely concerned. \r \r So my suggestions are that if you are sure you don't need to eat quickly and you do want good pizza that's pricey, this is a fine place to hang out and watch the ball game. The servers are really nice. Just realize that the basic arrangement is high prices + low staff numbers, and the managerial folks would rather lose some customers than improve the service model. Pros: quality pizza Cons: very high prices, no service committment more

Disgusting!!!! 9/29/2007

My boyfriend and I ordered the TurboDave and the pizza crust was not done. It was absolutely disgusting. For a better pizza go to Mellow Mushroom in Southside or Davenport's in Mountain Brook Village. Oh yeah and if anyone thinks Dave's is romantic ya'll need to get out more! more

If you got lots and lots and lots of time, Dave's is your place 9/7/2007

I highly recommend Dave's Pizza if you don't mind waiting and waiting for a simple pizza. ""Your pizza is the next one out""...no, it's the next one....no, maybe the next...., no, should be right out...., no, still waiting after an hour plus. Great stuff. Once you've made your tolerance limit, try Zoe's next door, it's good, quick and healthy. Pros: Cool place Cons: Wait time for a pizza is beyond reasonable. more

Good Time 6/8/2004

Great atmosphere for a local pizza joint and kid friendly. Pros: outside seating, decent beer selection, good pizza more

Best in Town 2/16/2004

This guy knows what he's doing. He has some of the best pizza I've ever had. He also has a delicious spinach salad, and an unbelievable smoked pork tenderloin sandwich. His menu is always changing, so you never know what might be new. Pros: Delicious food, Good music, live & no, Blanket warmers more
