Davenport's Restaurant is well-known by many Rhode Islanders as the place to get high quality seafood at a great price that is not directly on the oceanfront. The chowder at Davenport's always places highly in the annual Newport Chowder Festival for their famous white chowder.
The ambiance is casual and the food tasty and reasonably priced. The food can be classified as American with the burgers and chicken selections but with a seafood influence.
The parking is tight during the weekends, as many have to park in a lot across the street, but the wait is well worth it. I've been once and would come back anytime for a dinner with the family or even a casual date. They also have a frequent visitors program.
