Best

food was delicious and prices were fair. i would definitely recommend Dali to anyone looking for great tapas!

Worst

highly overpriced. What you get is not worth what you pay! For large groups, make sure you meet elsewhere in advance. They will not seat you even if one is missing from 20. prefer...

Wish they would take reservations... 7/19/2003

...that is my only gripe. I have been here twice and both times we waited more than an hour for a table. The food is good and the sangria is awesome. Harpoon IPA is the only beer on tap. Lots of singing and even some intimate corner tables if you want to take a date here. Oh, tough to find parking, too. more

Depends on what you're looking for 6/19/2003

OK, I've been to almost all the Tapas places in Boston, Dali is good and different. It's pricier than some of the other Spanish restaurants in town, but its decor is nicer, and its options more original. I would never go on a weekend. It's a nightmare. They are constantly changing the menu - which is great, but it leads to inconsistent food quality. The first time I went, it was unbelievable - everything perfect! We ordered all tapas, and nothing that we had ever tried before. More recently, we stuck to more traditional Spanish food (jamon serrano, gambas aillo (sp?) etc.) These were a dissapointment. My suggestion - if you want a great dining experience, go to Dali. If you want great Spanish tapas that's reasonably priced, go to Tasca (Comm. Ave in Brighton). Oh, and if you want waiters who speak Spanish, try Spain. Pros: Originality, Decor, Service Cons: Pricy, Parking difficult, Inconsistent more

too much hype 5/23/2003

The decor was great and lively. Having gone to tapas bars in Spain, Chicago, and others in Boston, this food is some of the most overpriced and poor. The waitress could not speak spanish nor properly pronounce what was on the menu. The food portions had a poor combination of spices that took away from it. Moreover, the portions were smaller and overpriced. Unfortunately, Boston lacks much in restaurants with flavor than any resemblance to one leads to over praise. more

Lively, yet romantic 1/15/2003

Just visited Dali with my girlfriend last night, having heard and read raves about it, and it lived up to, even exceeded my expectations. It was livelier, louder, than I expected, with lots of large groups having a very good time. Nonetheless, the atmosphere still very romantic with the rooms lit almost exclusively by candles and the Spanish music playing unobtrusively in the background. Very long and diverse tapas menu. The sangria and the tapas were exceptional, but honestly didn't have to be; with the right company in such a fabulous setting, you will have a wonderful evening. We visited on a Tuesday night, but I understand that it is a very different atmosphere on the weekends. Pros: Very romantic, Wonderful menu more

WHAT FUN! 1/14/2003

i loved dali. it was such a fun, lively restaurant. i chose dali because it received a 2002 best of boston rating as an inexpensive, romantic restaurant. however, i saw very few couples. in fact, every table was crammed with big, happy, laughing groups of people feasting on dozens of different tappas and drinking pitchers of sangria. we were lucky and got a table in a corner, which was romatnic - but the atmosphere of the restaurant is far from romantic - it's just too lively. the service was fast, the food met all my expectations, the sangria was yummy. all in all, i wouldn't take my boyfriend back for a romantic dinner, but we'd take a few of our close friends and have a GREAT time! Cons: don't accept reserv., LONG wait more

Overrated, but decent decor 1/9/2003

Yes, this is a good place to go with a group for Sangria and eats. Yes, it's also a great place for a date - due to the ambiance, but although the food is novel for this area, it's only slightly better than average. They don't take reservations on weekends, so expect to wait. more

very spanish, very good 1/2/2003

We had excellent meals, cozy atmosphere and lots of sangria! I would recomend it for romantic moment as well as for great fun with friends! Pros: food, ambiance, location more

Amazing Dining experience 1/1/2003

Dali currently is the best restaurant I've experieneced in Boston. I'd never had tapas before so I didn't know what to expect but found the eclectic range of dishes tantalizing to both the eyes and mouth. The atmosphere is loud, festive, warm and comforting, but be prepared to feel very crowded as the popularity of the restaurant coupled with its small size makes its patrons feel like packed sardines. Every tapas dish I ordered was good to excellent. Delicious ones that stood out in my mind were: the rabbit, the wild boar, the goat cheese, and the pork tapas near the bottom of the menu. more

CALIENTE,CALIENTE 12/11/2002

I must say that Dali's is like a little treasure found in Somerville. When you walk through those doors, it's almost as if you have found yourself on vacation somewhere in Spain. What ambience. The decor is just charming. If the people, atmosphere and food don't get you hot, you can be sure that those killer sangrias will. If you want a nice romantic dinner for two, this is the place to go. Don't bring the kids. The garlic shrimp, octopus and seafood paella were delicious. Pros: delicious food, fast service, attractive decor Cons: street parking, gets crowded more

Romantic AND fun with great food 12/11/2002

My husband and I really enjoy eating at Dali. I like sampling different foods every time, though we always get two plates of the garlic shrimp. Waiters are friendly but very busy--when there's one at the table, try to think of everything you could possibly want in the next 15 minutes. Hosts and hostesses have an unbelievable knack for keeping the name and order of parties straight, and are always cheerful despite the crowded entryway. Parking is a bit of a pain--no surprise there--but the food is worth it. Be sure to grab a couple of postcards on your way out! Pros: Delicious food, Reasonably priced, Good people-watching Cons: Crowded, Little parking more

Very romantic-don't take your roommate 10/4/2002

Eclectic. Something different for a special occassion, even a birthday if you aren't bringing a huge group. Great date place. The tables are speckled with real red rose petals. Wear whatever you want and feel comfortable. The space is small and intimate so avoid prime time dinner hour on the weekends. Pros: Best Tapas in Boston, Ambiance Cons: No Parking, Wait for Table more

Recommend to Anyone 8/20/2002

The only con here is the wait for a table, but as long as the sangria flows, you should be ok. The waiters and staff are wonderful in every way, and the food is delicious. Much better than its Newbury St. counterpart. Pros: waitstaff, sangria, decor/atmosphere Cons: wait more

Excelente! 8/5/2002

The food is always the best, both the Tapas and the Comidas, main meals. The Pescado de Sal (salt encrusted fish) is the most tender, moist, tasty fish I've ever had. The tapas are very good and they always have a menu of new tapas specials. You want the Sangria and you don't want to get there any later than 6:15 (they open at 5:30) ESPECIALLY on weekends. If you do go late, leave your name and find something to do for a few hours. Pros: Food, Sangria, Atmosphere Cons: No reservations, Possible long wait, Somewhat noisy more

Go for the dessert! 7/1/2002

Good food. Good atmosphere. High prices. The food is interesting and delicious...but you pay for it. Figure at least $30 per person. Sangria is good but also expensive. I recommend the Tartas de Chocolates for dessert...its great. Its kind of loud in there so if you go with a big group you may not get to talk to the person at the other end of the table. Call ahead for reservations. Pros: good food, good atmosphere, good drinks Cons: price, limited parking more

Fabulous food, fun with flare 6/5/2002

Bar none, this is my favorite restaurant in the area. I have been going since it opened in 1989 and it is always a tasty and festive experience. The first time I went I was amazed it actually captured the ambience of a tapas bar in Spain (although a bit cleaner). I've never seen another restaurant outside Spain come close to this one. And the staff are friendly while the decor is a little off-beat. Come early though because they don't take reservations and the wait gets very long within the first hour they open on the weekends. Anyone I've brought here has loved the food. As long as you get a table, you're good. If you end up waiting with the crowd, it can get crazy. On the pricey side, but the experience is worth it. (Better like garlic) Pros: Delicious food, Fun atmosphere, Authentic feel Cons: Difficult parking, Crowded at peak times, A little pricey more

Editorial
  • Few eateries are as romantic as Dali, with its copper ceilings, candles, fresh flowers and warm lighting to lead some patrons to refer to the restaurant as an aphrodisiac. Waiters ferry sherry, sangria and Spanish wines from the eclectic bar, where a diverse crowd passes the time. The kitchen churns out dependable interpretations of regional Spanish tapas such as garlic shrimp, chilled vinegary octopus, sauteed mushrooms and baked goat cheese from the menu of 40-plus tapas. Fish baked in salt and paella (prepared Valenciana or del Oceano) are customer-favorite entrees. Desserts range from classic flan to an ending of quince paste and Manchego cheese.
