Crossfit workouts fabulous...CFSC not so much. 5/30/2011

Crossfit offers variety and challenges that are unsurpassed by any other workout. I absolutely love the Crossfit workouts. This gym however, not so much. When becoming a member at CFSC it is required that you complete a beginners course. During the beginners course, conducted by the owner, you learn quite a bit. After the beginners course you expect to continue to learn more and receive some of the attention and instruction you received during the beginners course. However, the beginners course ends up becoming a ploy to get you to join the gym (which is crazy expensive) and after you pay, the friendliness and instruction goes out the window. I personally feel that although this gym has many benefits such as size and knowledgeable trainers, it is very cult like, as mentioned below by another user review (although that user disagreed). I agree that everyone at Crossfit wants to see you succeed, but if you cannot commit to going to the gym six days a week and prefer the gym three times a week after work, you can forget being accepted here by the trainers or the members. The trainers make you feel inadequate and the members only talk to each other. Additionally, CFSC toots its horn about being different from other gyms. It claims that it never requires its members to sign a contract. However, if you are dissatisfied you can forget getting your money back from them. Instead of wasting $35-40 per month at the big gyms, you risk losing at least $100 if you are unhappy with the services and of course if you don't go with a long term package the more expensive the membership becomes. Sounds like a lock in contract if you ask me. Bottom line, if you can find a local Crossfit gym, go for it. Just make sure it isn't CFSC. more

Great place to train 3/1/2011

I've been going here since August 2010. Previously I trained at a martial arts gym as well as LA Fitness. Initially going here was a test to see what benefit a CrossFit regimen would help me towards my fitness goals. \r \r I have to admit it's worked great towards my goals of improving my athleticism and keeping lean with short daily workouts. Beyond just the CrossFit regime, I believe the staff and clients at CrossFit South Cobb foster a friendly and motivating environment. \r \r An example would be the first time I stepped foot in the gym. I was actually on my way to visit another CrossFit gym nearby and mistakenly walked into CrossFit South Cobb. Miles, the owner, immediately greeted me. After realizing where I meant to go, Miles graciously directed me to the other gym and in fact talked up what a good group of trainers they had. After that interaction I was sure to come by and give his gym a trial as well. I'm happy I made it back to CrossFit South Cobb and continue to be a satisfied member. \r \r I'd encourage anyone who's the least bit interested in trying out CrossFit to drop by this gym and give it a try. After a few sessions you'll start seeing and feeling the sense of camaraderie here...and get a heck of a workout!\r \r \r more

Love the place 2/28/2011

I was another that had a membership to a mega gym, and got bored. Many of my friends were talking to me about crossfit and how much they liked it. I could see the difference in them after they started, as they became more fit and lost weight. So, I decided to give it a try. I really like it, and all the trainers are great to work with. It's a very inclusive environment and everyone wants to see you succeed in your goals. Alot of people think crossfit is a cult, but they just don't get that when you go to the gym, sometimes you find a place where everyone supports you and tries to help you obtain your goals. more

Has changed my view of fitness! 2/3/2011

I hated working out. For years I paid thousands of dollars to join fancy gyms and hired personal trainers to try to get excited about working out. I believed that trainers were not only to get faster, better results, but also a way of forcing myself to actually go to the gym (or lose $). A friend of mine was looking incredible (better than she did 10 years ago) and told me she owed it all to Crossfit and that I should give it a try. So I did. \r \r I now love working out at CFSC! The workouts are quick and you get in and out of there in a jiff. They change every day so you are never bored. The Crossfit philosophy focuses on functional movements, strength training and flexibility. Things that add to the quality of your day to day life, e.g., lifting boxes, stepping up, etc. Friends commented quickly on my improved physical appearance, and more importantly my spirit and confidence. (Even my old trainer when I went back to use up my prepaid sessions said ‘you look great, what have you been doing?’) You can achieve results and in a short amount of time if you stick to it and watch what you eat (they can also give you great tips on eating). Miles, Chris and the staff are motivating and great to work with. CFSC is one of the biggest CF spaces around the has a great mix of members, like family. We support, encourage and motivate eachother..no matter you age or ability. \r \r The cost is a fraction of what you would pay for a trainer and 10 times better in terms of experience, motivation and results! Finally, don’t let the gym or the types of workouts intimidate you…they scale them to fit your level and before you know it, you’ll be amazed what you can do! more

Try Crossfit South Cobb... You just might like it!!! 1/31/2011

WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO THAT TO MYSELF? - is the first thought when asking a Crossfitter about their WOD (workout of the day)... \r \r I was a 5 to 6 day a week gym rat feeling pretty good about my skill level and athletic abilities...\r But bordom found it's why into my workout and I needed a change so gave Crossfit South Cobb a shot.\r I was just going to give it 30 days (that was 1 year ago)\r \r You have not worked out until you try a 20 minute AMRAP (as many reps as possible) or 5 rounds of the skillfully programmed workouts by the staff at Crossfit South Cobb.\r Just some of the highlights of Crossfit South Cobb:\r * No more planning your workout.. Just come in and do the workout of the day (WOD).\r * FAST - you can be in and out with a great workout completed in less than an hour\r * Knowledgeable and friendly trainers to assist you in your workout goals.\r * Friendly group of crossfitters to share the experience with.\r * Price - Crossfit South Cobb has the best rates of any crossfit in the area.\r * Size - one of the largest Crossfit gym spaces.\r \r Crossfit is not for the faint of heart but in my case it made my faint heart a Crossfit heart!!!\r \r So that's why I say.. TRY IT YOU JUST MIGHT LIKE IT!!!\r more

Not sure if you've experienced the Crossfit difference, but CFSC is the one you should treat yourself to. The team over there are knowledgeable and professional. Great equipment and atmosphere. The gym is huge with lots of space to learn the moves and get a good workout. Large enough to do many workouts inside if the weather is bad, but there is a lot of space around the gym for running or an outside WOD. more

Happy to endorse CFSC 1/28/2011

For several years I belonged to one of the mega gyms in the area. I would work out regularly, but I would see little improvement in my conditioning. The mega gym was also boring, as I tried to find different things to play on my iPod to keep myself distracted from the monotony of sitting on an exercise machine. I became more fed up as the mega gym added more members and I couldn’t find the weights that I wanted to use, an available exercise machine, or even a parking spot. A year ago I decided to try CrossFit after reading favorable comments about it in a fitness magazine. Great decision! Miles and the team at CrossFit South Cobb have taught me the value of intense workouts. With support from the trainers, their workout-of-the-day challenges me and engages me. My conditioning has improved considerably. Having never been an Olympic decathlete, I know that some of the CrossFit workouts can be intimidating. However each workout can be scaled to each individual’s abilities. The workout may appear tough, but you will be able to do it and you will see a benefit from it! more

How Crossfit South Cobb Changed My Life: 1/27/2011

I grew up being athletic playing all kinds of sports. I even played college soccer. After college I went from some of the other regular gyms to having a personal trainer trying to keep in shape. \r \r I felt like I was going through the motions and it was hard to get motivated doing the same movements day after day. Not to mention I didn’t see any big improvements.\r \r I thought I was in pretty good shape working out 4-5 times a week until I saw one of my friends go from a regular gym to 3 months into Crossfit. They looked like a new person. \r \r Being a competitive person that I am I wanted to see what Crossfit was all about so during my work lunch break I went to check out Crossfit South Cobb off of Windy Hill.\r \r I was extremely nervous at first because the only thing I knew about Crossfit was through videos I saw online and through what some of my friends said. \r \r I remember walking in and seeing people doing 20-30 pull ups in a row and thinking to myself I would never be able to do that more or less 1 pull up. Needless to say I was having second thoughts on whether Crossfit was for me. \r \r Immediately Miles Davis, the owner, walked me through the gym. It did not look like a normal gym, more like a warehouse with some kettle bells and some medicine balls. He explained to me what Crossfit was all about and the core concepts behind it. I thought it was neat that Crossfit is based on scientific evidence and they even write a journal every month explaining the reasoning behind all the workouts and movements.\r \r Still skeptical I soon went in for my first work out and quickly figured out that I thought Crossfit feels more like a sport then it did just a workout. \r \r You workout with other people. You quickly learn at what you are good at and what you are bad at. Everyone pushes you. You learn what the true meaning of training is that no video or regular gym could ever teach you. \r \r Miles and the other trainers walk you through all the lifting, workouts etc. One thing I learned is that they scale ALL of the workouts to your ability. So for example they have what looks like a large rubber band to help you with pull-ups. I was on the giant rubber band for 3-4 months until I could do a Pull up.\r \r Miles and the trainers actually didn’t let me workout with weights for the first 2 months while I learned all the proper techniques on all the lifting.\r \r Now instead of going to other gyms or doing working DVD’s I go to Crossfit South Cobb 4-5 times a week. I am hooked and my biggest regret was not joining sooner.\r \r I am 2 years into doing Crossfit and have been to many Crossfit gyms around the country. I have never been to a nicer or bigger facility then Crossfit South Cobb. They even have a bathroom with a shower if you are in a rush to get ready for work. It still do new things every week that I never thought I could do.\r \r Not only do I go almost every day but it has changed my whole lifestyle from my diet to my overall well being. \r \r The thing I like most about Crossfit South Cobb is not only does it take your fitness to a whole new level they treat you like family. \r \r I can’t thank Miles and his staff for everything. I would highly recommend Crossfit South Cobb to anyone. \r \r One of the most fun things I have ever done and one of the best decisions of my life. \r \r \r \r \r more

Beyond Routine Fitness

Owner Message
  • CrossFit is an incredibly effective strength and conditioning program. We feel the CrossFit method will prepare you for life and sport better than any other training regime in existence today. If there were another system that worked better we would implement it at our facility. Our gym looks like all gyms did 50 years ago. There are no machines, no Flat screen TV's, and certainly no gimmicks. CrossFit revolves around a simple idea: work out using only functional, real-life movements; constantly mix them up in as many different combinations as imagination will allow; and always work out at high intensity. We train the entire body with compound movements, not by isolating individual muscles. Nowhere in sport or in nature will you tax one muscle while the rest of your body relaxes in a nice padded chair, so we don?t train in the gym that way.
