Best Gym in Boston... Knowledgeable Trainers and Great Members 5/23/2007

Crossfit combines dedicated, knowledgeable trainers and great, supportive members. Workouts at Crossfit Boston vary daily and focus on dynamic full body movements. One day could be a combination of box jumps, squats, and pull-ups and then next could be focused on Olympic lifting and running. Don?t know Olympic lifting? neither did most of us. Crossfit trainers coach you through movements explaining them simply and breaking them into their components. During classes, the trainers continue to provide guidance as you workout. The trainers are really experienced and knowledgeable. They also tailor guidance to individuals. To say that I am not very flexible is an understatement. The trainers at Crossfit have helped me improve my flexibility by modifying workouts as necessary. There is no question; I have seen tangible results. My body composition has changed, I have become more flexible, and my fitness has improved greatly. As an avid skier, winter for me is a quest to get as much powder on the steepest slopes possible. This past season, I was absolute amazed at the fact that I could ski all day without getting fatigued and I could get up the next day without pain or tightness to do it all over again. Whether you are training for Everest, want to lose a couple of pounds, or get into the shape you were once in? Crossfit is for you. The members are extremely diverse in terms of background, prior athletic experience, and fitness but are unquestionably supportive and encouraging. I have made great friends here and become part of an amazing community. Pros: Great Trainers and Fantastic Members more

If you really want it, this is where to get it. 5/10/2007

If you want to achieve the kind of fitness that is transferable to any activity possible then Crossfit Boston is for you.\r \r Two years ago, I was an overweight, chain smoking disaster. On hiking trips, I was frequently left in the dust by my friends, and on the ski hill, I was beaten into submission and in the lodge by 2:30pm, stuffing my face with a greasy cheeseburger, wondering how I had come to such a pitiful state. I knew if I wanted to reclaim the glory days of my college years, I would have to make some changes in my life. \r \r At first I tried a lifting program, convinced that bicep curls and lat pulldowns held the keys to my future fitness. However the regimented and monotonous routine quickly ran afoul of my ADHD adled mind, and I soon gave it up. \r \r Next my Girlfriend suggested I try Yoga. This seemed like an excellent idea, if being in a hot room filled with young, sweaty, spandex clad women contorting themselves into positions I think I had seen in the Kama Sutra didn't motivate me, nothing would. But as I began to practice more frequently, I realized that yoga only gave me a small piece of what I eventually wanted. Something was missing.\r \r As I began to envision a future drowned in Fried Chicken and talk show interviewers asking exactly how I had gotten so fat that I couldn't get out of bed, I read an article in a magazine about a new approach to fitness called crossfit, which emphasized total body fitness in short, ultra intense and extremely variable workouts. After a quick web search, I discovered Crossfit Boston, and I haven't looked back since. The classes are amazing, classmates cheer one another on, and the excellent staff ensures that each exercise is done with proper form, and spend time with each athlete to ensure that they have a firm grasp on each new skill. I can honestly say that I am in the best shape of my life, I can now smoke my friends in the mountains, and have recently concluded a 7000 mile bike tour, all due to Crossfit Boston Pros: Atmosphere, comraderie, dedication of staff more

Best Full Body workout ! 5/8/2007

When you walk into Cross fit Boston, you won?t see state of the art cybex machines, treadmills, or amenities that you typically see in a modern gym. But initial impressions are deceiving. This place offers the ?BEST? one hour full body workout on the planet? perfect for those of us who are on the go. The challenging workouts incorporate both cardiovascular and strength training in a varied and ?never boring? cycle. You may run a 3k on Monday, do kettle bell training on Wednesday, and pushups/sit-ups/pull-ups for time on Friday. The exercises are great for men and women of all fitness levels. \r \r All of the instructors are knowledgeable, motivational, and fun and are always willing to work with each student on their individual goals. Leave your ego at the door and give Cross fit a try. It will be the best full body workout that you have ever done! \r more

These workouts rock 5/7/2007

I tried every other method of working out, from lifting weights to running teams to doing boot camps and this is by far the best workout.\r \r It's boot camp on steroids. You're doing pushups, pullups, handstands, shoulder pushups, kettlebell swings, box jumps, overhead presses, often in circuits. \r \r In the one hour it takes to do their instructor-led workouts, I'm in better shape than hours as a gym bum.\r \r The best thing about this workout is that you don't have to think. The workout of the day is different every day. Sometimes it stresses speed, sometimes maximum weight. Sometimes you run, other times you're throwing a medicine ball.\r \r For all the talk about building your ""core,"" nothing compares with Crossfit's approach. It's anything from throwing a medicine ball in the air to doing olympic deadlifts and jumping on gymnastic rings and doing an L, all part of what Crossfit does.\r \r My energy has doubled since I starting doing this workout. My posture's better. I sleep better. These guys are the real deal. Pros: Best instructor-led 1 hour workout ever Cons: No wallflowers. You work hard for an hour and get in amazing shape. more

Best workout around 5/7/2007

Crossfit Boston is by far the best workout I've found!! I was looking for a strength workout to supplement my running, and I found all of that and then some at Crossfit Boston. \r \r Neal and his crew are second to none in their ability to motivate anyone no matter what your skill level is. Sometimes it seems as if they have eyes in the back of their heads -- they are very diligent about making sure your form is correct. The workouts are varied and force you to work on skills that you otherwise might not (for me, that means pullups and handstand pushups) I have gotten so much stronger than I ever thought I could - it's amazing.\r \r Crossfit Boston is so totally different from any average gym workout -- you have to find out for yourself. more

Absolutely phenomenal fitness program with incredibly attentive trainers 5/7/2007

As a 43 year old mother of two I have found this program addictive and appropriately challenging. The staff knows certainly their stuff. They are attentive, creative and extremely helpful with the full range of fitness training that we do. Be it Olympic weight training, metabolic conditioning or joint mobility we are all in it together, pushed to the limit with excellent results.\r \r Crossfit is like no other fitness regime and I highly recommend it to everyone. Pros: Excellent, experience, friendly staff. Availibility. Equipment. Variety of workouts. Cons: none to think of more

Best Workout in Boston 5/6/2007

I got interested in Crossfit from friends' recommendations and their daily workouts. Six months ago (Oct '06) I tried out the Crossfit Boston gym and found out how much better these workouts can be. After half a year of solid work, I've gotten faster and stronger - I can see the difference in my self, and on the scale. This is not to say that the work has gotten easier - the trainers at the gym keep finding improvements to make and the methods to push me to set new records for myself and find new goals to reach for, and as another reviewer said, every workout is different. I couldn't be happier with the gym, class sizes are small and there's always a lot of mutual encouragement for each other - I haven't looked back at the ""Big Box"" gym I used to bore myself at. If you come into try, you'll be a rapid convert... more

Fitness that counts! 5/6/2007

CrossFit is by far the BEST FITNESS program I've ever done. It is the best way to develop all around, functional fitness that will benefit you no matter what you do. If you are a police officer, firefighter, etc. this type of fitness is essential for your job. However, the trainers at CrossFit Boston make the workout scaleable so anyone can get on the road to great health. After only a few months, I'm seeing benefits in my health and fitness across the board. The trainers at CrossFit have been wonderful as well. They really care about moving you towards your fitness goals, and provide really thorough and individualized instruction. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this program to anyone. Do yourself a favor and just check it out! Pros: Staff, fitness results! more

Best fitness regime EVER 5/4/2007

Crossfit Boston is THE ONLY place that you can get the best workout and see amazing results quickly. I've tried personal training at the gym, yoga, pilates, kickboxing, cardio...just about everything under the sun and the first day I tried out crossfit there was no turning back! the great thing about it is everyday there is a new workout that never involves any repetition from the previous day's workout, which makes each individual always strive for new goals. you work in groups which is great because you get cheered on to not wimp out and try your hardest on everything-and believe me, this gives you awesome results! I've been doing crossfit for not even a month now, and i've gotten rid of my gym memberships and everything to stick with it because when you see immediate results and feel stronger from something, like you do with crossfit, you know it's worth it. give it a shot, you'll be in the best shape of your life. Pros: nice people, am and pm classes, the results more
