I am extremely new to this hobby, having not ridden a bike since my teen years. When I walked into Conte's, I'd done a minor (man, you really find out how minor once you start tr...

Clovis is priceless 4/8/2011

Most importantly (to me at least), Clovis, their bike fit professional, is priceless. I am prone to overuse injuries from sports, but when Clovis adjusts my bike for me, not only do I not suffer injuries, but I actually feel stronger and healthier on and off the bike. He is also an incredible wealth of knowledge and has helped me to become a more aggressive and successful hill climber. Coming from a girl who grew up in flat South Florida, that's quite an accomplishment. more

The people at Conte's are serious about their bike and yours 4/5/2011

I read a bunch of the review for Conte's before starting my own, and I want to address what Conte's really is.  It's a bike shop, and a bike store.  These people live and breath bikes, training, and races.  Their friends are bikers, they met their S.O.'s at a race, and when they got married they rode their bikes off into the sunset.  So the people at Conte's are serious about their bike and yours. more

It's the only game in town 3/31/2011

We decided to bite the bullet and upgrade our bikes to carbon frame. The staff at Conte's spent hours talking about bikes, helping us find the right ones, and just generally making us feel good about our investments. Stacy and Jason helped us find models that accomplished our cycling goals, did not try to push more bike than we wanted or needed, but didn't just show us the dog they wanted to get rid of. We ended up getting a good deal and two bikes, and Jason helped me upgrade on wheels , since we dropped a lot of money. (This isn't a cheap sport, if you take it seriously). We've had the bikes for two weeks now, and could not be happier. It was indeed, a life-changing experience to upgrade to these bikes. A special note about Clovis. This guy knows his stuff, takes his job seriously, and nailed the fits for both of us. And, he is a great source of knowledge about cycling, and willing to share that knowledge. I have no idea why people complain about the service. We first came in here in July 2009 knowing nothing, they've helped educate us, been patient with stupid questions, and we really enjoy going in there. If you want a townie bike, it's not the right place. If you want to get into cycling as a sport, it's the only game in town. more

A store for real Road Warriors!!! 3/28/2011

This is not your kid's Bike Shop - any respectable shop can do a decent repair on a simple bike but it takes real experts to work on the complex components on a quality bike. I needed knowledgeable, expert repair on my Merlin and I got exactly that and much more. This is a store for real Road Warriors!! more

bike is safe and working optimally 3/23/2011

I only trust the team at Conte's to service and repair my bikes. Rather than hire an array of service guys who range from newbie to top notch like you'll find in other shops, everyone seems to be top notch. At other bikes shops we've experienced everything from pedals falling off, to cracked crank bolts to belt derailleurs. Save yourself. Just go to Conte's to be sure that your bike is safe and working optimally. more

best stock 3/21/2011

Last year I wrote a review of Conte's as new customer. Since then, my opinion of them has only gotten better, so I thought I'd write an update. If you are a serious bike rider, this is the ONLY bike shop in N. Virginia to go to. Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned pro, the staff at Conte's is always friendly and helpful. I have learned from them everything from the benefits of different bikes, metals, tires, and components, to what clothes to wear for every weather condition, and even what type of sunglasses lenses work best in different conditions (thanks Jason!). They have the best stock of clothes and accessories that I have seen in the local area. more

This is a great bike shop 3/17/2011

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! 3/14/2011

Clovis, had an awesome first IRONMAN race in Florida on 11/7/09, mostly because of the great bike fit you made for me!!! I had no foot numbness, no knee pain, and just a bit of saddle soreness, to be expected for an 8 hour ride. In the past it always took me a mile or two of running before my feet felt normal, and this time I hopped off the bike and was able to start running comfortably right away. I also had no back soreness. I wish I'd gone to you first for a fitting when I got the bike two years ago... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! more

thanks again 3/11/2011

""Clovis, It was nice meeting and working with you on Friday. The bike fit experience was great. I rode for a combined 3.5hrs this weekend and my legs felt great. The bike feels like it was built just for me. The pain in my knee is pretty much nonexistent now. I will be back soon with my mountain bike and possibly some minor tweaks to my road bike. Thanks again"" more

great help 3/8/2011

""As I prepared for a ride from Maine to Florida, it became apparent that better equipment was required. The experts at Conte's Arlington fitted me out with a Cervelo that was tailored to my dimensions, age, and flexibility. Since hot spots in my feet were a continuing problem, they recommended Specialized Sport road shoes with Specialized inserts. They set everything up perfectly. 1,700 miles and 42,000 feet of climbing later I can say the Cervelo was light on the climbs, fast on the flats, and tough enough for some rough roads. The shoes were also great and still comfortable after 22 days on the road. Thanks Conte's for allowing me to ride every mile and climb every foot."" more

did a great job 2/25/2011

I have a charity ride for MS this coming weekend, so it was really important I get out and break in the new bike this past weekend. Thanks for your help, and the assistance of everyone on your team (both Danas and Clovis were very helpful; I never got to meet Greg, but I know he stayed late Friday to finish the build). more

great advice 2/24/2011

I don’t know if I could go back to cables for shifting after riding with DI-2. It takes all the trial and error out of shifting so the bike responds to you immediately. I haven’t tried to weigh it yet, but it’s probably close to 8 lbs under my old steel alloy Fuji. The weight difference is especially noticeable on climbs—it just takes less energy to pull up a hill. more

Thank you for meeting me early 2/22/2011

Thank you for meeting me early Saturday to get my Super Six to me for my Saturday ride. I got in 60 before any rain hit where I was headed west of Leesburg. The bike was great! more

Jason is on holiday this week, 2/17/2011

Jason is on holiday this week, but I forwarded your note to Jason and the rest of my team. I love to hear that you are enjoying the new Super6 Di2 (how could you not), and please let us know if there is anything else you should require. Thanks for the support and the business and enjoy! serious about cycling. 2/8/2011

I knew I wasn’t going to pay the cheapest price, but felt I was buying an education as well (which Jason gave me up front) along with the follow up maintenance and training advice you guys can offer. At this point, I’m very comfortable referring my friends to you that are serious about cycling. more

upgrade 2/4/2011

You have a very professional and hardworking team. I’m in a service business as well, so I appreciate every customer is different. One of my partners bought her first ‘serious’ bike from you a year ago, and told me I should consider visiting your store when I was ready to upgrade. It had been 33 years since I bought my last road bike--no kidding. It is a Fuji 12 speed which still rides fine, and actually was a high end bike in 1977. Though I have quite a few friends with very nice current bikes, I had lots to learn given how technology has changed before buying. Jason took lots of time with me over several weeks and lots of test rides. He was also candid with me in ways that made me trust him as a business person. more

genuine 1/27/2011

""Clovis appears to take a genuine interest in his customers' needs and works hard to ensure they are satisfied. When dealing with Clovis, I never feel as if he is merely trying to sell me something. Not only is he clearly knowledgeable in his field, but just as important, he appears to have a mature understanding of human nature and how to interact with customers in a way that makes customers feel better about being in a Contes store. I have considerable experience in sales and customer relations, and I would not hesitate to hire Clovis for his interpersonal skills alone. If every staff member at Contes were half as good as Clovis, Contes/Freshbikes would have no problem standing head and shoulders above the competition. "" more

impressed 1/26/2011

""I'd like to tell you how impressed I've been with Clovis' professionalism and customer relations skills. Clovis has been working with my son on a bike fit. My son is an aspiring junior racer, and Clovis' skilled analysis of my son's physical characteristics and riding needs has resulted in my son developing a much more efficient and comfortable approach to riding. Clovis has followed up regularly by e-mail to check up on how my son is doing and to determine whether his bike and other equipment need additional tweaking more

I would like to thank Conte`s for a wonderful experience. I was in for 5 minutes and was taken care of from the time I walked in to the time I walked out with a new Cannondale CAD8. From now on I only buy from Conte's for my needs. more
