When I moved to Boston in May, I tried all avenues to find work from asking friends for any leads to submitting large amounts of resumes to various online postings. I got a few interviews that never panned out to anything, until I contacted Contemporaries. Their offices are located in a really convenient place near Government Center, but you have to submit a resume and make an appointment first. They tend to get booked pretty early. \r

I met with Rory, one of their business development officers, and she was gracious enough to really engage me on broadening my skills and refining my career path. She understood the imperative to work immediately, but she also wanted to find me a position that I could evolve in 3-5 years down the road. I’ve met with 4 other agencies in the downtown area, and couldn’t help but feel like a disposable cog in their mass instruments of labor. Contemporaries was totally different. They were unpretentious and they got right to work. Rory introduced me to a couple of their longtime clients in education and government, and within a couple of days, I was out working for a local university. Throughout the assignment, the agency checked in with me at regular intervals, which despite what other reviewers complained about, was great in keeping me in the loop and planning ahead. After 2 months, a job opened up at a quasi-government agency and they moved me where I am now, and I’m looking at possibly going perm.\r

I’d have to thank Rory personally for her diligence and professionalism, but all the rest of the staff were really attentive and caring. I never got bait-and-switch offers like I did from other agencies, and there was always somebody I could talk to who understood my situation when I called. I haven’t been able to count on that anywhere else. Give this place a try if you’ve got some experience and are looking for high-level admin work. I’ve talked with a couple of other folks that have worked with them, and they have a pretty diverse array of clients in the Boston area. I hear they also do IT placements. \r
