Understaffed.
Rely on outside agencies to provide some of their aides, who were at times irresponsible in not showing up or showing up when they felt like it.
One nurse did not even know how to use a suction machine.
When needed hospice assistance in an emergency situation, had to call back after waiting 40 minutes and not receiving a telephone response. (This was a weekend, which I found out they only have one on-call nurse covering 3 counties!)
Despite their website stating that one of the services they provide is physical therapy, it took many weeks just to get a P/T in to see patient, who was then supposed to come back in a few weeks and never did.
They will not provide a flu shot for a patient, despite the fact that they do not require their personnel to have flu shots themselves, leaving an already vulnerable patient even more vulnerable.
Other than one visit after death of patient, no follow-up by hospice with caregiver, except to send a survey.
As far as this writer is concerned, they were paid far too much money by Medicare for the services they did (and often did not) provide.
This writer suggests taking the time to investigate ALL available hospices in your area, even if you are led to believe they are the ""only game in town,"" when discussions of hospice arise.
