Compadres Bar & Grill

I love local favorites and high quality. Compadres would fall somewhere in between. Some days they are packed with the hottest (yet un-snobby) local/college grads in town, those days unfortunately are usually only on special nights when the tequila is flowing and the music is humming. I've found a good buy almost every day that I've been and can't believe that the younger 21 to 24 crown would go anywhere else. PEOPLE WE'RE TALKING $1 MARG's HERE!!! Plus Compadres finds a happy home in between the favorite neighborhood dive bar and the uber-expensive in Waikiki. I like that I can meet up with friends and watch Hawaii kick butt, or hang out with the ladies for glamorous evening out..... ladies your shoes don't even slip on their floor!!! Drink prices fall right in line with the other places in Ward and the bartender told me they have tequila specials all month! The pupu menu is nice, good stuff even us girly girls can nibble on and not get all gross and sloppy. Plus the guys seemed to be going to town on taco tuesday... I have to say their tacos are the biggest and best this side of Honolulu. I'm not a big fan of the guac, every time I get it it's a little different, but the layer dip & nachos rock. Service can go one way or the other, we had a girl about a week ago that seemed like she had better things to do, but that was really the only bad experience I've had their. Oh and like a lot of places they do have independent bathroom staff. The lady is so sweet so make sure you have a buck or two to give to her! See you guys their!!!!!!! This was the best service and liveliest place in town on a Friday night! We had so much FUN! The MARGARITAS were OUTSTANDING! The live music from Kalaeloa was AMAZING! The people were friendly and the food was GOOD! My friends and I were so pleased and had such a GREAT time we will be back next week for our other friends birthday!!! Pros: EVERYTHING! My family and I have NEVER been so full! We had such a GREAT time. The place was jumping and looked like everyone else was having some fun! My kids got balloons! My drink was full at all times! No worries! Compadres get the nicest workers everybody was TOP SHAPE! Right ON! Pros: FOOD! Balloons! WORKERS! more

All I have to say is that the food is GREAT! The people were so friendly and GOOD LOOKING!!! It was a pleasent surprise to hear music going on a Thursday night? We ended up staying til close and had a WONDERFUL time. Macho Nachos are to die for with lots and lots of jalapenos and pitchers of Li Hing Margaritas!!! Thanks Compadres! These guys really know how to put it together! This was my most fantastic expirience EVER! People are friendly, food was spectacular, drinks are MONEY! If you know anything about authentic mexican food, this is NOT it! The rice tasted like it was made from a box, the food tasted horrible, and the margaritas were expensive! Not to mention, the service was horrible too! We had to ask to be seated, ask if we could order drinks, and then we had to ask someone if we could order. I have done reviews before and with this one i don't know why it comes so highly recommended. I guess thanks to advertising. I can honestly say there are two good things about this restaurant. 1. Convienence 2. Their tortilla chips are still free. 3. During high times aka the weekends. i have heard the hosts say you can only eat in the dining area if you are ordering one of their over priced entrees. this includes every person in your party. The bar area on these nights it too small to accommedate those who just want pupus and drinks. THat bringing to mind if you like alcohol in your drinks esp. during happy hour marquerita... you are better off making them at home... or for that matter your hotel room. I had a nice cold beer on a really nice deck. The food had no flavor. The salsa tasted like pasta sauce. I won't be back. more

Go during happy hour if you're going to go, otherwise margaritas are $6.50 and not very big. We had steak nachos and they were $13.95 and all chips with very little cheese and 4 small pieces of steak. Nice open aire place, but expensive and not great taste. We love mexican and we wouldn't go back there. We'll keep looking in Honolulu for the best mexican... more
