Great Family Fun 11/20/2006

The girls have been absolutely 'Jonesing' to go here since we first saw this place. There is one a little closer to home but we had a somewhat unpleasant experience with 2 of the people on the phone and decided to go to this store instead, and we were very glad that we did. They have a large variety of ceramics to choose from, you pick one out that you'd like to paint, then choose your colors and sit down and paint at one of their tables. You can get more paint as needed, or different colors, they will even help make suggestions on what to use. When you're finished you pay for your item, leave it for a week so they can fire it up in their kiln and pick it up for use or display. We had a great time and can't wait to go back! http://colormemine.com more

Color Me Mine 11/15/2006

My sister and I took my two daughters (age 3 and 7) to this store and were quite impressed. The clerk (I believe the owner) was very helpful and friendly. She remained patient even with my two little ones. She brought them over extra tools to make it easier for them and was a great experience. more

fun but pricey 9/28/2005

This is one of those paint your own ceramics type of places that have become fashionable. The premise is you come in, buy a piece of unpainted ceramic and then paint it any way you'd like. You leave it there, they fire it sometime within a few days period and you can go back and pick it up. I have a few problems with this place. First of all, it's really quite expensive for something that I would likely screw up. One false move of the paint brush and my $25 bucks would become trash. Secondly, I think you have to be a pretty good artist to make the money worth it. Third, for those with kids, I don't think they would appreciate the delayed gratification of leaving their works of art to be fired and they're not the type to appreciate the spendiness of it all. I prefer the painted penguin in Bloomingdale because it's less expensive and you can walk out with your completed product. more

Personal Pottery 8/26/2005

Color Me Mine is a pottery store where one paints and decorates their own creation. The ceramic pieces are unfired and ready to be glazed by individuals. The glazes are all lead free and safe for children to use. One can come alone or with a group of friends. Parties are available to be held in their private party room. It can be a very relaxing activity. There is a sitting fee which covers the glazes used and firing process. Sometimes there are daily specials where one can save on the sitting fee. Everyone has to pay the price of the ceramic piece chosen. The staff is helpful with any questions you have and can offer suggestions with your design. The pieces are fired and glazed so that they can used as functional pieces (eaten on, filled with liquid, etc....). It's always a nice surprise to see your final piece finished and fired a week later. more
