Chibo used to be a favorite place for okonomiyaki, since it's opening.\r We were seated at the counter, placed our order and chef Taka started to cook our okonomiyaki.\r Taka was jabbing with the couple next to us and we could see, even as amateurs that the okonomiyaki was being over cooked to a point of becoming black and charred. \r Taka finally broke away from yapping and started to turn over the okonomiyaki, regardless of its obvious ""ko-ge"" state.\r I didn't say anyting because i was rather curious as to whether he really intended to serve us the blackened pancake.\r A few minutes later, he started to sprinkle flakes and proceeded to hand us the plate of totally over cooked, dry, blackened okonomiyaki.\r I cut removed the toppings and cut the pancake to reveal the blackened, charred pancake and called Taka over to ask if this was his version of a ""servable"" okonomiyaki.\r Not saying a word, he went into the kitchen and brought our the head chef(?) - older guy with a moustache who asked if we had a problem with the food.\r Showed him the okonomiyaki - no need for words, it was pretty obvious that it wasn't fit for consumption. ""Head chef"" didn't apologize, but asked if we wanted another one.\r So we called the manager, who looked at the okonomiyaki, apologized profusely and proceeded to instruct the head chef to cook another one.\r Didn't quite feel like waiting another 15,20 minutes, so we asked for our bill and left.\r Won't be back. Pros: Great ambience Cons: Taka trhe chef more

Our Favorite in Hawaii 11/5/2008

This is our favorite place in Hawaii. Japanese in Honolulu is very good anyway, but this place is special. We love the ""pancakes"" which are mouth watering - lick the plate good, and can't find them too many places. We actually stop in Honolulu rather than taking a direct flight just to go to this place. I like the pork pancake, my partner likes the sefood choices best. The seaweed salad and grill items are perfectly done and seasoned. Pros: You can't find okonomiyaki like this outside of Japan Cons: A bit pricey more

Designed for Japanese tourist, normal table dining not so thrilling 5/12/2008

My girlfriend and I went for a quiet dinner. We did not know that the main draw for this restaurant was the showman chefs, so we got a private table. The dinner&show started at a nearby table, but it was never loud or obnoxious and we would steal glances when something especially dramatic was going on, but could focus on our meal the rest of the time. The wait staff was good but not in any hurry. Perhaps all restaurants should be like that, to encourage guests to really slow down and enjoy their vacation. As for food, it was good. To be honest, it was out of our particular food expertise, but still definitely edible and delicious. Perhaps someone else makes a better raw tuna steak on rice, I'm not a real sushi connoisseur. Pros: Good for trying something new Cons: Had reservation but still waited despite empty restaurant more
