Many times when I have attended this theatre people talk--loudly--during the movie. It tends to attract a certain type of movie goer who has no sense of movie manners. I now AVOID going to this theatre. more

Clyde's is a staple on my short list of lunch spots. They offer the basics on their menu and every once in a while they have special that will surprise you. Their Maine Lobtster special is a deal not to be passed up. Don't get it confused, this is not a fu-fu gourmet joint. Come here for the wings or crabcakes or just a good old burger and fries. You won't be let down. more

Downtown institution 8/30/2010

Wood-paneled, spacious but not overwhelming, and always quality. Here, I can feel like a grown-up, seated next to be-suited mid-level executives and the occasional lady awash in pearls, but still nab a can pf BPR for $2 and a tasty burger or toasty sammy for less than $9. A bit corporate, being downtown, but the staff is young and fun, and the food never fails (crab and artichoke dip anyone?). Great for big groups upstairs, or a lively chat downstairs with the sociable bartenders. more

Classic Standards Done Well 7/12/2010

Clyde's may remind some of a nicer TGIFriday's but I personally like the food and think of the restaurants as a far step ahead of such national chains. I've eaten at this location for brunch and at the Georgetown location for dinner and enjoyed both experiences. They offer large portions and hearty, well-made, standard American cuisine. I LOVE chicken n' waffles, and their ""Joe's Fried Chicken and Waffle"" was up-to-par with several of the local spots in DC where I've also had chicken n' waffles. Service here is good; waiters here are attentive and friendly. I came on one occasion in a group of 8 and our waiter at the time didn't falter with any orders and was very nice. 8 times out of 10 this (and other locations) are packed, especially with tourists, but I've managed to come without reservations at reasonable times (11ish for brunch, 8ish for dinner) and was seated immediately. Pros: good brunch, prime location Cons: often crowded more

Delicious! 6/21/2010

The food here never disappoints. The seasonal cuisine allows new menu items every time I come. They have the best strawberry shortcake! Get it while it is still available this summer. more

its really not tht bad 6/16/2010

if you have such a big problem with the movie theater don't go. I've been there many of time and if kids are not behaving well a staff member will already be there to escort them out. more

Average Cinema, Strict on Outside Food Policy 6/15/2010

I like Gallery Place's cinema mainly because its convenient to where I live, plays all the current movies, and is relatively clean. Because the location is central to most neighborhoods in DC and close to the metro, however, it's often crowded and finding a good seat for a movie on opening weekend can become a mission. Another big downside: they're ridiculously strict about bringing in outside food - I've experienced this in other cities before but Gallery Place is unnecessarily strict. I've come here to see movies multiple times where I had leftovers in a box or food from shopping and they didn't allow me to go in - what can they expect if I ate at Bar Louie but can't go home and drop off my leftovers?? Just expect to eat everything if you have dinner beforehand. Pros: convenient area, large, clean Cons: won't let you in if you have a doggie bag or outside food more

Horrible 5/17/2010

My encounter with Clyde's was horrible. Our group was discriminated against. We were the only African American's in there and waited 45 minutes for water at the bar while people were served graciously and continuously. We gave a credit card for payment on an $82 bill and the bar tender insisted we run a tab but asked for cash. We instructed him to charge the card and informed him we were'nt running a tab, he commented that we had (purple money) anyway as to give insult as if we were paying with a food stamp. I have never felt so degraded and wish never to patron them. I have lived in DC almost all of my life and haven't felt this level of discrimination ever. more

I don't know what they are talkin about but... 4/17/2010

I visit this movie venue on a regular basis and never have I encountered rude or nasty kids inside, maybe on the outside streets but never inside the stadium. I enjoy it %100! keep it up. more

Kids get in for free and it shows... 4/6/2010

5 times(FIVE TIMES)I have gone to movies that I would have thoroughly enjoyed and had to listen to young children talking and/or singing during the R-movies. In one case a mother carried on for minutes starting with "don't tell me to make my MFing son to be quite..." She didn't abbreviate the MF. I mentioned these problems to the manager. I was told employees visit each theater once every showing and that children under 5 get in free. I look at the listing of other area theater before choosing Regal Chinatown. more

5-Star Venue but Kids will ruin it! 4/5/2010

I love the whole Chinatown area! But the kids are rude and nasty! If the movie theater could get control of the kids, then the theater will be better! more

Never Disappointed 3/18/2010

Clyde's of gallery Place is always one of my favorite go-to spots for a relatively cost-efficient but good meal. My favorite time of year to visit? Definitely spring. Since Clyde's boasts of a seasonal cuisine, now is the perfect time to take advantage of their Sunday Brunch featuring fresh blueberry pancakes. They have spoiled me for any others, and I find it well worth the wait for something this good. more

Excellent dining experience 6/4/2009

First time we ate here and it was delicious. It came highly recommended and we are returning the favor. Thanks for providing friendly service and delectable treats. Pros: Delicious food & great atmosphere Cons: parking more

Getting in The Zone Near Verizon Center 1/5/2006

By Fritz Hahn Washington Post Weekend Section Friday, January 6, 2006 Most of the new nightspots around the Verizon Center are going for a sleek, modern look. Not so at the enormous Clyde's of Gallery Place, which manages to evoke an opulent Gilded Age hotel, a timeless New York saloon or a genteel country club, depending on where you sit. Wander through this 23,000-square-foot behemoth and look around. Notice how every surface is covered with richly detailed cherry wood or tiles. Check out the art: a floor-to-ceiling oil painting of Babe Ruth crushing a home run, canvases of fishermen hauling in the day's catch, portraits of local landmarks, bronze statues of pugilists, football players and, in the boardroom-like private dining room, a life-size horse at full gallop, complete with jockey. Gaze up at the Tiffany-style stained glass overhead. Most impressive of all is the majestic grand staircase, topped with a barrel vaulted ceiling, that leads to the largest dining rooms. The second floor is filled with glass cases holding all manner of antique trophies and cocktail shakers. There are three bar areas, each with its own personality. The round first-floor bar is best for groups or meeting friends, thanks to large booths hugging the wall and plenty of counter space. Through a door is another huge room with a rectangular bar and dining space. And up that picturesque staircase are a third bar, usually quieter, and a small lounge area with clubby chairs and small coffee tables. Once you've settled in, few surprises await. Clyde's does pretty well with a solid, all-American menu of burgers, seafood, salads and red meat. The beers are basic, and mixed drinks are well made, though we didn't ask for anything more complex than a Manhattan. Fans of Old Ebbitt Grill should note that Clyde's is replicating the legendary oyster happy hour here, with half-price mollusks from 3 to 6 and again from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Which reminds me -- if you're looking for late-night eats, this is the place to be: A late-night menu is available until 1 a.m. daily, and the bar is open until 2 during the week and 3 on weekends. more

Editorial review from The Washington Post 10/18/2004

The brand new Regal Gallery Place should make mainstream moviegoers more than happy. A stadium-seating theater with large screens, digital surround sound and 14 auditoriums, it will screen the blockbusters and Hollywood fare found at most cineplexes. While the occasional major release with an artsy edge -- like Jude Law's "Alfie" -- will show up here, don't expect Regal to step on the toes of Landmark's E Street a few blocks away. Indies, foreign films and less conventional selections will remain Landmark's bailiwick. Located next to the MCI Center in Chinatown within the new Gallery Place shopping complex, moviegoers enter the Regal by walking down an alleyway off of Seventh Street. After purchasing tickets at the ground-floor box office, patrons ride an escalator upstairs while taking in the view of the majestic atrium, complete with Grecian-style columns and busts. Once upstairs, a sizable concessions area stands front and center, but don't expect to find much more than popcorn, candy, soda and slushies. While some theaters, like Landover's new Magic Johnson, offer more diverse items such as chicken fingers and ice cream sundaes, Regal sticks to the basics. Given the number of nearby restaurant options, it makes sense. The larger auditoriums accommodate 300 people, while the theater's total seating capacity is 2800. Those seats, by the way, are particularly comfy; they all rock, feature flip-up armrests and, in some cases, sport leather accents. Those attending events at the MCI Center can head directly to this cineplex without even walking outside, a fact Regal plans to take advantage of by scheduling some screenings just as games and concerts are ending for the evening. With that commitment to convenience, not to mention the Metro's presence just a few steps away, Regal could become the favored theater among D.C. residents. --Jen Chaney, Oct. 19, 2004 more
