Editorial review from Citysearch 12/6/2013

SERIOUSLY ADDICTED TO THIS PLACE. I was skeptical about this place after reading the reviews from the past but i decided to try this place for myself. When i walked in, i was greeted immediately. I had never been inside a pottery store before so i had no idea what i was doing. The staff was so sweet to explain everything to me. They were quite knowledgeable about everything that had to do with their job. Never once did i feel in the way or like i was annoying them. They even were kind enough to help me pick something out and show me a few designs that i ( a non artistic person ) could handle.\r \r I noticed there was a birthday party also happening at the time i was there. The staff seemed really energetic towards the children and helped them and the parents the entire time with the party. There were balloons and festive decorations! I even helped sing along to happy birthday when it was time to blow out the candles. haha!\r \r I was surprised at how much fun i was having while i was there!!! i plan on going back numerous numerous times. I even looked online and they have discounts for date night! which is any night that we determine! this place is awesome. \r \r it seems as the reviews below are outdated from staff of before! They have really had a turn around and would recommend this place to anyone!!! more

Awful Birthday Experience 1/15/2012

We went to Clay Cafe for my daughter's 10th birthday. She was so excited. Each child in the party picked their piece that they wanted to paint. My sister asked about another piece to paint that was the same price and was rudely told that those were not an option for the party. We were told at the end of the party that it would be a week and a half to two weeks for our stuff to be ready. Also at the end of the party each guest put a thumbprint on the back of a special birthday plate. Two weeks later I went by to pick up our pieces and they were not ready and I was told to wait for a call. The staff was not friendly at all. A couple of days later the stuff was ready so I went back to get it. We get home with our stuff and find out the special birthday plate with all the thumbprints is missing. I go back up there and they can't find the plate. I was told they had lots of birthdays on that day and that it probably got mixed up with someone else's party stuff. They told me that they would make her an extra special plate to make up for it...but there was no way I was going to be able to get everyone back up there for the thumbprints because we live out of town. I was wondering why they were not calling all the other people who had parties on that same day as ours to check on the plate. Two weeks later I go back again to pick up the new plate which is still not ready. I ask about them calling the other parties from that day and the girl was like...oh yeah we could do that. I was thinking um yeah that would have been the smart thing to do a couple of weeks ago. When they finally got the new plate done I went to pick it up and asked about the calls to the other parties and the girl just says ""we did not hear anything"" and they gave me the new plate which was supposed to be extra special. It is a plate with a flower and my daughter's name on it....pretty plain. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!!!!!!! more

Will not go back! 5/30/2011

I used to go to Art Avenue to paint my own pottery, but when I saw that it was no longer there, we decided to go to Clay Cafe near by. When we walked in no one was there to greet us or ask us if we needed help. We proceeded to pick out our pottery and waited about 5 minutes for someone to help us get the paints. They reluctantly helped us and went back to chatting with co-workers. After we finished painting we gave our information and left. This place was a little more expensive than Art Avenue, but we paid and left. They said they would call us when it was done. A few days later we got a call to come pick up our pieces. When we arrived and gave our name, they spent 15 minutes searching for our pieces. Finally they gave us one of our pieces and said they had messed up the other and had to re do it in the kiln. They again said they would call us when it was done. We never got a call back. We returned a few weeks later to see what the problem was. They said they had thrown our other piece away because we did not come pick it up in time. I understand they throw the pieces away after a 30 day period or however long to not have everything sitting around, but when YOUR business messes up a piece WE paid for, and does not call like promised it is not ok. They were rude when we explained the problem and did not receive a refund. I will never return here or recommend this place. Terrible service. Go to Mud Room on 82nd if you want a good experience with painting your own pottery! more
