Best

I just took my bike in for the one-month tune-up after buying it here -- both experiences were fairly good.

good 5/31/2011

I just took my bike in for the one-month tune-up after buying it here -- both experiences were fairly good. more

the staff were very pleasant and honest about what needed to be done 5/26/2011

When I brought my old bike in to get a service quote, the staff were very pleasant and honest about what needed to be done. I didn't get the feeling that they were employing sneaky sales tactics more

City Bikes went out of their way to find it and special order it for me. 5/25/2011

When I decided that I wanted one specific bike and nothing else would possibly do, City Bikes went out of their way to find it and special order it for me. more

Most importantly, they were honest. 5/17/2011

Their service was really good, and they always helped me save money. Most importantly, they were honest. more

I am very impressed 5/13/2011

I am very impressed by their staffs, not only their professional knowledge and skills, but also the fact that they think entirely as your servants. more

They do free tightenings/tune-ups 5/12/2011

The store is fairly small, but the service great. When I gave my intended spending range, the salesman was happy to show me last years model of Specialized bike, rather than push the more expensive current model. I bought the bike, and still have it 5 years later. They do free tightenings/tune-ups if you bought your bike there, and can usually squeeze you in same day. more

was encouraged to take my time 5/9/2011

Since I was looking for a step-through frame and not a $2000 racing bike, I was expecting the sort of dismissive attitude I'd encountered before (coughRevolutionCyclescough). I was very pleasantly surprised to find that they not only seem to be the only shop in the area with more than two step-through frames in stock, they also were super friendly, unpushy, and relaxed about the whole thing. I tried out one bike one day (it was not too long before closing, but I was encouraged to take my time) and another the next. more

They installed my rear rack for me 5/9/2011

They installed my rear rack for me that I bought and she was ready to go after her exit tune-up by closing the next day. Best $500 I ever spent. Awesome employees, awesome attitude, awesome bike. more

did not cost me an arm and a leg. 5/5/2011

All the people that work there that I've talked to were pretty cool and civil, and I got some work done that did not cost me an arm and a leg. more

you name it! 5/3/2011

City Bikes is a local chain of bike stores. They offer everything the cyclist would need, from bikes to clothing to messenger bags to repairs to you name it! They have a wide variety of mountain and street bikes, with fair prices and helpful service staff. They will even let you "test drive" bikes, which is very cool. more

good selection 5/2/2011

they do have a pretty good selection, and the staff can be friendly and helpful more

largest selection 4/25/2011

Great big selection of bikes, including what is probably the city's largest selection of functional urban road bikes. If you're looking to buy something with fenders and panniers to use as transportation, this place actually carries a bunch of them. more

thank goodness 4/22/2011

As others have pointed out, no problems working with an older (70s,80s) bike. more

Good service 4/20/2011

I've been doing business with City Bikes for years and they are the only bike store in the area that I will go to for anything seriously bike related like repairs or advice. I might shop at other stores for clothing and such where things might be cheaper but you cannot beat City Bikes when it comes to good service. more

I've received excellent service. 4/19/2011

I've been 3 times now, and each time I've received excellent service. No one has been condescending or anything, and I'm pretty sure that I've asked some jacked-up things. Their Thursday night intro class is awesome too. more

These guys went out of their way to help me 4/15/2011

I lost a piece of my rear derailleur on the way home, my jockey wheel. In my old neighborhood I stopped at my favorite shop, 10 minutes after closing, and they we're helpful, after a bit of convincing they unlocked the door and accommodated me, agreeing that they were there TO help! In the end, I found myself sitting on the ground with City Bike's head mechanic outside the store, after his work day, helping me with my bike issue. Can't thank you enough Mark! These guys went out of their way to help me AFTER HOURS. Again, a wonderful act of kindness from a solid neighborhood bike shop. more

best bike shop 4/13/2011

Adams Morgan's best bike shop more

My only experience with their service 4/12/2011

My only experience with their service: the seatpost bolt broke on my bike after a week -- not their fault, warranty item -- and they quickly replaced it. more

They've got a good selection of bikes 4/12/2011

They've got a good selection of bikes -- much more than at BikeSpace (who were also friendly, but just didn't have the right bike for me). Accessories were a bit more expensive than going online, but that's to be expected: it's the cost of running an actual store vs. an online warehouse. more

I headed over to City Bikes 4/7/2011

I love City Bikes! I had a bike ripped off recently and after giving up on Craigslist, I headed over to City Bikes to look for a new one. It's a big store, and they were mellow about letting me try out as many bikes as I wanted (around six). I ended up with one I loved, and because it was a clearance model (2010 bike, in March 2011), I got it for a bargain price as well. There was no attempt to up-sell me on anything more than what I needed. Their big emphasis at the Adams-Morgan store is on commuter bikes, moreso than hardcore mountain or road. more
