Ciao Bella

Ive eatten here about five times. When they first opened they were great. The food was good and the service was great. My last few visits were disapointing. I kept going back hoping they might have just had a bad day the last time. My last visit was a disaster. The prices had gone up and the service was a joke. The food quality was not that good. While visiting family in Alabama, we ate at Ciao Bella two of the three days we were there and highly recommend this unique dining experience! You feel like you're with family. You can't improve on the quality and flavor of the food. OK...we haven't tried all of it, obviously, but what we did order was excellent! Our guess is that everything on the menu would be super! I have been to Ciao Bella for the past coulple of months, and the food is EXCELLENT! The cozy cafe atmosphere with an open kitchen allows you to see and smell everything that is going on. The pizzas are made to order with just about any type of topping that you can imagine.The pasta dishes are also authentic. The gnochii was WONDERFUL. My wife loves the lasagna.\r \r We have been at all hours on the weekend, and the food was prepared to order, and the service staff kept everyone happy with drinks and prompt service. \r \r \r PROS: Authentic food with a great atmosphere. I have been to Ciao Bella many times now and have enjoyed it each time. Guests can sit inside in a very cozy atmosphere or sit outside at a covered table. Over the course of my visits, I have come with family and friends and have tried a number of the dishes. There is a wide variety of goods available from pizzas to pastas to seafood to veal and more. Each one I have had, whether it be the pizzas, brushetta, lasagna, paninis (which come with homemade kettle chips), and/or gnocchi dishes have all been hand made, no preservatives, and have been served with a smile. I have even taken family when they visit from out of town and know they will request to go back on their next visit. The tiramisu is the best I have ever tasted and, along with the other dessert pastries, are authentic and imported from Italy. Another of my favorites is the yummy Italian bread served with the homemade and infused olive oil. I wish I had it at my house to eat all the time. Healthy and good...what more could one want?! I would recommend this to anyone and already have plans for my supper club to meet there next month. If you are in the Spanish Fort area, I urge you to try it. We stopped at Ciao for dinner on a Saturday evening. We were greeted outside with the information that they had a large party (a party of around 12 at one of two occupied tables in the restaurant) and, unless we ordered salads, we would probably have to wait some time for any other food. As we were considering salads, we decided to try anyway. After reviewing the menu we were told we could order whatever we liked. Our waitress was admittedly inexperienced and not attentive. I ordered a maindish with capellini. She brought out my husband's order and brought me a bowl of nothing but capellini. When I explained that was not what I ordered, she was able to find the correct order. \r \r We also had to request bread to go with our food and were told that would be ""extra"". The bread was extremely mediocre. Its texture and taste was no better than the most mass produced italian bread you could find at any supermarket. The olive oil dip provided was so heavy with garlic it was inedible.\r \r The bread was consistent with the main dishes provided to us (to say ""served to us"" would be a misrepresentation). They were pedestrian and uninspired. There was nothing interesting about them.\r \r The waitress only came back to check on our food when it was time to bring the check. We paid $30 for two mediocre pasta entries. It was a waste of time, money and calories.\r \r We will never return to Ciao Bella Pizza....so Ciao to mediocre food and nonexistent service. Southern hospitality and customer service DO NOT exist at Ciao Bella (Eastern Shore Center in Spanish Fort)! I was taken aback at the lack of respect management had for its customers. Based on my experience, if you try to return an uneaten entree, the management will embarrass you in front of everyone, and threaten to call security. \r \r This restaurant failed miserably to provide an acceptable level of customer service, food quality, and managerial professionalism. I strongly recommend that you AVOID Ciao Bella!\r Cons: Management was very rude and insulting to customers, locked bathroom doors, can't speak English well, overcooked food, more concerned about making a dollar than its customers' needs. more
