I really appreciated the way they treated my grandmother, Thank You! more

Love this store 5/10/2011

This is a great store! The store is very cleaning & well organized. Very easy donations, I love the drive thru donation drop off. They have a lot of great items more

This place ROCKS ! What do you expect ! 2/12/2011

First, about the negative reviews - IT IS A THRIFT STORE NOT MACY'S !!!! Every time I've been people have been great ! Everyone is wonderful ! Don't go into a thrift store acting like it's Macy's or some high end Summerlin place and expect things. So the people with the negative reviews need to get a life. Second - The store is clean, the people are great, the items are great ! Go ! Go ! Go ! Ignore the whiners !!! more

It works for me! 12/20/2010

I'm surprised at the negative reviews. My experiences since this location opened have all been positive. I've donated items here a number of times. I understand that most of these workers are receiving training so they can seek employment in the "real world", so I don't expect them to have all the people skills of clerks in a high end department store. However, I have been treated with respect each time I've dropped items off. I've purchased a number of items here, generally entertainment components like DVD players and tape decks, but also clothing. Obviously, buying used electronics carries some risk, but I've always been happy with the price and what I got for it. more

Very Disappointed with the lack of respect training 10/11/2010

While looking up the phone number to complain, I can't say I was surprised to see the negative reviews. I decided to clean out some stored items. My husband loaded a steel bunkbed frame and a twin bookcase headboard for donation to this location. The comment he received from a worker was, "Dude, we don't take this kind of stuff". My hubby wasn't too thrilled to be called "Dude", and was amazed that the items were unacceptable. He drove a few blocks away and found Goodwill more that happy to have the items. He says he will never waste his time with the D. I. again, so I guess it's Goodwill from now on for our donations. more

No longer a customer but more importantly I no longer donate 4/16/2010

In response to Steele: The same thing happened to me, with the exception that I got my money back. Upping the price at the register is also something else I have experienced frequently at this location. I can vouch to the horrible manager, she is completely in over her head when it comes to dealing with customers. I understand that a lot of the employees are there on a work program, but you HAVE to have proper management. ** I do have to state that this review DOES NOT apply to the Flamingo location or any experiences I had with the other N. Las Vegas location that closed prior to the opening of this one.** Lastly, after 10 years of donating to Deseret frequently and faithfully I have had to take my donations elsewhere. This saddens me because I have always believed in Deseret and what they do (and I'm not LDS so it wasn't about religion). Until the various events at this Craig location that led to me deciding to no longer do business with them, I felt this was a wonderful charity. I even used to pick up donations from friends and family and drive out of my way to make donate to Deseret because I felt that they were the better charity in this town. Deseret, you should know that for a charity that relies on it's community to help conducting bad business and ostracizing your customers hurts not only your name but it hurts those you are trying to help. Pros: very clean store, wide variety Cons: unethical business practices more

Fraudulent and Unethical Sales Tactics 1/27/2010

At my last visit to this location, I saw an item within the "collectibles" cabinet that had a handwritten price on it of $25. I stated that I wanted the item however, the associate was helping another customer, so I told this person that I wanted the item and would be back to pick up the "ticket" for purchase, considering that new it runs $80-$125, as I told her. Fifteen minutes later, I go back to pick up the ticket, which had the item description on the ticket, and the price of $25. Approx five minutes later I check out, pay and head back to the collectables section to pick up my purchase. I was notified that the price I was told was incorrect, it was not $25,but in fact $125, yet the sticker reflected a handwritten price of $25. I asked to speak to a manager. This woman stated she was the manager. I asked to speak to a higher person, such as the store manager, she stated she was the only person. I said that I wanted to speak to someone at corporate regarding their unethical business practices, considering that the ticket with the price of $25 was in fact a legal contract of sale. She then said that the store was run by the LDS and that no one was at the "church" to call. I said to her she better get a corporate number because I know the LDS does have a business office, such as for their cannery. She told me to hold on, she would get it. Five minutes later she comes out and says that the store manager was coming out to talk to me. I said wait, you told me there was no one higher to talk to. Needless to say, the store manager came out and basically told me so sad, too bad, the price was wrong, and the only thing that could be done was to refund me the $25. I walked out of the store without the item I legally purchased, and without my refund. I did thought my own means, get the phone number for corporate, and was also given the number for the region manager. I did call that number, explained what had occurred at this store however, the person I needed to speak to, was not in. I've yet to get a call back. I thought the Mormons were ethical and attempted to act the way God acts howeer, now I've been shown that they are liars and encourage unethical business. Needless to say, I guess I've involuntarily given a $25 donation, without a receipt of donation. The female manager was nothing m ore than the floor manager, and she is really unethical, a liar, and sinful. Pros: Clean Cons: Horrible Management more

Awful Management 1/2/2009

The staff are great, but the lady manageress has a major problem. When purchasing a sewing machine, i took it home thinking it was working perfectly because the tag stated IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER. only to discover it didn't sew at all. When i returned it the manageress tried to insinuate that i had lied about it not working at all. so i called her bluff, and got her to thread it and tried out all 16 stitches, and none of them worked, so she agreed to refund me the money. however, subsequently i learnt from one of the staff members that she had used this incident to train new members of staff, but had changed the sequence of events to make herself look like a hero, and myself an idiot. such a shame because people like that do not belong in this type of business. Overall their prices are on the high side, and i do feel that the shopping experience is marred by the over zealous manageress. Pros: Nice and Clean Cons: Manageress is terrible (staff are great) more

Pricing is way off! Expensive! 9/12/2008

Friendly enough staff, rude managers. This stuff is given to them. Obviously someone who is buying from a Thrift Store needs a break. When managers are asked if they can take less for an item, they act shocked. C'mon people this stuff was donated. You are profiting huge here. Yes I know the money goes to support the Mormon Church and its missions. But, still have some compassion where it really counts. Pros: unusual items Cons: expensive for used items, dirty more

best there is 2/22/2008

When walking in to Desert Industries, You actually forget you are walking into a thrift store. I was so impresed by the staff there, I wasn't afraid to purchase items. When walking into other thrift stores I find it's harder to let go of my money when I get treated like I just rudely interrupted someone on break. No feeling like that were ever felt while shopping at desert industries. When people walk in to my house and admire the stuff I have, they are often shocked to find out that I got them all at desert industries. We now have a desert industry party. We trade the items we find at the sore and take them home to display for others to admire!!!! Pros: customer service, value for your dollar more
