True Baseball 4/18/2010

First of all I'm going to point out the negatives of Wrigley field. the home of the Chicago Cubs is located in the heart of the northside of Chicago, so the parking is for the most part is non-existent but that is the same for two other storied franchises' the bronx home of the Yankees and Boston home of the Red Sox. The lack of a humongous jumbotron is definitely a weakness for Wrigley and this is why, it is difficult to locate the score of the game at wrigley. second is the terribly small 'tube style' tv's located under the over hang of the stadium seating, with that being said it is nearly impossible to catch an instant replay. The on-going cherished 'trough style' bathrooms are disgusting and I recommend wearing rubber gloves, along with the lines being incredibly long just to enter at your own risk. The ancient Wrigley is falling apart and could potentially be risk to someones health. Now onto the positives of Wrigley, Wrigley was built in 1914 for $250,000 and still stands today which make the stadium a monument of the city of Chicago, to demolish the stadium would be as if we got rid of Buckingham fountain. The way i remember baseball is playing in the backyard or an empty lot with no fence or jumbotron, no lights to play at night, and no damn porcelin toliet to go to the bathroom in. Being a baseball fan I enjoy the intense fan base of the Cubs with that to say, the bleachers are true seats with all the immendities of annoyingly loud and drunks fans, as well as a great view of the cities skyline. I have a feeling if I were to ask a Chicago White Sox fan if he or she would prefer to enjoy a game at the original Comisky Park, or U.S. Cellular field. I would love to see how many people would pick the original. My first professional baseball game was in 1987 at the original Comisky Park, my second game was at Wrigley field and as the seventh inning stretch lyrics go, 'buy me some peanut and cracker jacks.' That's all anyone really needs at a baseball game, not a fancy assortment of food. more

I don't understand! 6/15/2006

To this day I have not and can not understand why people are so super obsessed with the Chicago Cubs. For real, when was the last time this team won the title? Or for that matter, won a game?!? But it seems as if their fans are still plenty and going strong for many years now. The cubs are a good asset to our city and they attract quite a crowd in their spacious and entertaining stadium. But for better game, I would really recommend the White Sox!! more

The Cubs at Wrigley are a National Treasure 6/15/2006

You cannot go wrong attending a Cubs game. It is an experience from start to finish. Amazing atmosphere, picturesque setting (if you're the sort that appreciates cityscapes), and an incredibly loyal fanbase. I lived in Chicago for 4 years and one of my most favorite things about that wonderful city is the experience Wrigley and the Cubs provide 81 days out of every year. Do yourself a favor and go if you get the chance. more

The Worst Place for Baseball 4/25/2006

Given the choices for baseball lovers in the City of Chicago it is beyond any reason as to why anyone would want to make the trip to rundown Wrigley Field to watch the miserable Chicago Cubs play their unique brand of mistakes, flubs, fouls and losing that passes for National League baseball in this town. Across town, nestled on the South Side, is U.S. Cellular field. A modern ballpark with ample parking, relatively clean restrooms and some of the best selections of food you can find or want in the city of Chicago or in a baseball park. Not to mention fantastic sound and a clear and brilliant Jumbo-tron in center field. There is also a great section for kids in left field called "Fundamentals." Not to mention the fact that the White Sox are 2005 World Series Champions and the play is infinitely better. Still, for some reason people make their way to Wrigleyville. A worse neighborhood you are not likely to find. Parking is non-existent, literally. There is no official Wrigley Field parking lot. So, be prepared to pay about $20 for the luxury of parking in some local's garage and then walking eight blocks. The stadium is literally crumbling. A couple seasons ago masonry fell from the ancient stadium. This is just the prelude to cramped seating with a potentially obstructed view. If you have to get up perhaps to make your way to one of the filthy restrooms to then go in a trough-style urinal you will find yourself unable to see the game from the walkway, unlike U.S. Cellular. Essentially Wrigley Field is the world's largest beer garden. Most of the people will be talking on their cell phones or gawking at the drunks in the bleachers. Then of course you might just end up shot by angry drivers trying to get the hell out of Wrigleyville after the game. This doesn't even speak of the deplorable and outright laughable level of baseball being played on the field. The Flubs are definitely NOT the team to follow if you want quality baseball. Visit one of the suburban minor league teams or go watch championship baseball with the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Don't get scalped by the Cubs at one of their sanctioned ticket-scalping organizations (they call them "brokers") to sit in a horrible stadium well past its prime to watch pathetic baseball played on a sub-par level. more

Too expesive, but way too much fun 9/27/2005

So this is definitely a once a season thing for the whole family, and only once a season because otherwise we'd have to skip a mortgage payment. But if you love baseball, and love the Cubs, you know that every time you go, it's magic. The crowds are huge, and parking requires second mortgaging your house, but public transportation is a good way to go, even if it does require wading through hefty crowds and walking quite a few blocks. But it's well worth the "hassles"! more

Lovable Losers 9/23/2005

At this point its hard not to root for the Chicago Cubs because you know that eventually they will win the World Series. Okay, who am I kidding? Its never gonna happen. They will tease us, maybe even getting to the World Series, but they will never win the whole thing. Would fans stop going if they won? Who knows, but the whole mystique would be gone. more
