BEST STAFF IN DENVER 4/2/2008

I had to take a moment to write this review. This is my second visit and will not be the last.\r My wife and I invited another couple with us for dinner this past fryday night.\r We all left speechless. Everithing was wonderful- from the service to the food to the wines.\r I had a seefood pasta dish that was amazing, my wife and our friends were very very happy about their food too. The only recommendation/suggestion I have is your web site. I was disappointed to see so little about this wonderful restaurant.\r Wish you all the bestwith this treasure you have @ Venice Restaurant. more

Poor quality. Beware of 5-star reviews, probably staff / owners. 2/25/2008

I visited this restaurant for Valentine's '08. I must say, I was VERY disappointed. We were sat at a wobbly table in a noisy bar, when there were plenty of tables available in the dining room. We asked to be moved. Waiter's breath smelled like cigarettes (seriously). The prix fixe menu was printed with tacky designs on paper. Bottle of Banfi was reasonably priced (one of the two good things about the evening). Three of the items we chose from the menu were not available. 'Pere' salad was a bland mix with pears thrown on top. Eggplant parmigiana was decent (the other good thing about the evening). The Ahi Tuna was nothing special. The ribeye steak was not at all impressive, it was covered in rosemary and was overcooked. The asparagus simply tasted of steak. My girlfriend and I both had the lobster ravioli, which was a HUGE disappointment. The ravioli had thin edges which were very rubbery and the whole dish tasted extremely 'fishy.' I really would not be surprised if it was frozen. The tiramisu might also have been bought-in. It was mediocre at best. One thing I noticed was that the portions were huge, not in such a positive way, but more as an indication of an unprofessional kitchen staff. Waiter was a bit of a nuisance during dinner, making awkward small talk, hovering etc...But, as soon as he picked up our dessert plates, he let us know that he could cork the wine so that we could take it with us (a waiter trick to rush customers out of the restaurant, made especially offensive considering it was Valentine's and I was paying $200+ for two people). He took the check off the table immediately after it was signed. We did not see him for the last 30min. I did notice that as soon as we left and were getting in the car, he reappeared and walked over to the table to see if there was wine left in the bottle (trademark of a seedy waiter / restaurant, I know from 6 years in food service). ""Chefs"" walked around in baggy jeans and backwards hats towards the end. HORRIBLE. Pros: Reasonable wine selections / prices. Cons: Way overpriced. Bad food. Poor staff. more

Small and cozy 11/22/2007

I love this small restaurant.\r I love the service and the food.\r I love the murals in the small dining room.\r The menu is different from other Italians restaurants.\r My favorite is the chicken San Gimignano, the ravioli with fresh mozzarella and the caprese. Pros: small and cozy, I love the different food Cons: Somentimes too small when busy more

Good & Bad 11/19/2006

This place was beautiful. The ambiance was so romantic, the hostess was exceptionally friendly and then we were seated. This place looked so authentic, the server even had an italian accent. It was a shame that we were not offered a cocktail or told the specials for at least 20 minutes. The server kept saying in that great accent ""I'll be right back."" We ordered and like a fool I was sold by the sales piece on the menu that their steaks were prime and cooked at 1800 degrees. It was choice beef, not prime. It was cooked on a grill that barely left the grill marks behind. It was done greek style, soaked in lemon juice, garlic and olive oil over-powering the flavor of the beef. The bread, the busser and the pasta dishes were exceptional. If you go. Order a pasta dish and expect service on par with ? your worst experiences. more

Favorite Italian 11/9/2006

Not just a favorite because it is close to home. The food is fantastic. It is reasonably priced and authentic - not chain food junk. Veal done any which way is the best. Pasta is innovative and perfectly cooked. Sauces do not overpower. By far the best, really, calamaria. Since downtown opened, we are missing the owner/chef, but it is still the best. Pros: Great staff, great food more
