Just to make clear this is the NEW location Chez Melange, not the old! Upon arriving at Chez Melange we walked through the charming but very noisy gastropub to enter the restaurant. First impression upon entering the dining room was that this is an upscale and intimate dining ambiance: white linen tablecloths, candlelight. Once seated I immediately noticed that my silverware was dirty and the tablecloth had remnants of someone else's food on it. Not a good start as I am very particular about cleanliness, especially at a restaurant like this. Once the server arrived at our table we ordered a bottle of wine and asked him to replace the dirty silverware, which he did promptly. We were given a very unexpected table snack of pretzel rods and wasabi cream to dip them in. The pretzels were tasty but the wasabi cream was kind of blah. I never expected to see pretzels on the table at a nice restaurant. I was impressed with the variety of cultural cuisine on the menu, as I was expecting it to be only French cuisine. We ordered curry lettuce wraps for an appetizer and that came out quickly and it was a nice light starter. I ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and my Husband ordered what was basically a meatloaf. My dinner was fantastic, the scallops were cooked just right, very tender and moist. My Husband's meatloaf was ""nothing to write home about"". He wished he had ordered something else because it didn't have a lot of flavor. We shared a chocolate bread pudding for dessert that was a delightful way to end the meal. We don't mind dropping a large amount of money on a fabulous meal, but we felt the menu was a tad overpriced. Being that the cleanliness factor weighs heavily on my mind that was kind of a downer for me from the start. The service was great, almost too good because while we were eating our entree the same person stopped by our table 3 times to ask how everything was. We appreciate the attention, but it was a little annoying the 3rd time he asked. I am not sure if we will be returning to the restaurant, but we will check out the gastropub that looks fun and interesting. It's worth giving this spot a try, after all we lack quality restaurants in Redondo Beach. Pros: I found some unexpected and exciting items on the menu Cons: lack of cleanliness and prices more

After not being to Chez Melange in quite a few years my family decided to go there for a birthday dinner. Our experience was not good. First started with being out of the wine we ordered, and those not drinking wine waited for their drinks while they tried to find us another bottle (guess they can't multi-task). There were loud and disturbing people next to us that finally got moved and a medical emergency in the main dining room that required paramedics....not the restauants fault but no apology to us for the commotion. The light above the table didn't work so we sat in the dark until the waitress found candles and then the topper was we waited over 30 minutes between starters and main course, which when it finally came the fish was overcooked and greasy. Lucky us, we got to pay over $300 for this wonderful experience....never again, too many fine restaurants in the South Bay to pick from. more

the food here is good not great. the service is good as well. just don't do catering with these guys. the service is scattered and stressful, and uses a lot of filler for the whorederves. we had to constantly wait for rock shrimp to come out while no one was eating the little tomato pizzas. the owner (british dude) was underprepared and did not know how to work the grill properly. the son is also rude at one of the weddings i was at. don't know if its because he's going out of business or moving to another location. but i wish them the best of luck, cause if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!!! great seafood though. more

Chez Melange looks like a 50's California Coffee Shop from the street, only done up in white instead of pink and orange. Once inside, it is much more civilized. One of the nicest hostesses anywhere (Kate) found us a great table. The dinner menu is vast, so many choices, and so many looked tempting. We decided on the filet mignon. Perfectly cooked medium rare, excellent flavor and so tender. Accompanied by asparagus and a wonderful corn-infused mashed potatoes (they call them corn-studded!)\r Great wine selection, but the house merlot was fine, and a yummy dessert tray, too. Delicious coffee with dessert. Nothing to complain about at all, waiter was attentive, and most other diners seemed to be enjoying their meals just as much.\r What a nice dinner, at a nice restaurant. Chez Melange is a restaurant that came highly recommended by some personal friends. After seeing the Citysearch Reviews, we decided to try it for Mother's Day. At first we were taken aback by the rather quaint exterior decor - it's located in the lobby of an older-style Hotel, with a very 1980's look to it. However, once we were seated those fears melted away to a delightful evening dinner. The interior has a comfy charm that complements the good fusion food.\r \r The waitress and service were top notch, and the food was American Fusion and very well done. We tried the Hamachi (Yellowtail) Sushi and it was very fresh and top-notch. I had the Kurobuta Chops (Japanese Black Pork, Natural-fed), and it was very good (not the best, but solid). The Ribeye turned out to be very well-done as well. The Chocolate Cake (warm, with a gooey, delicious, chocolate filling) was fabulous.\r \r All-in-all, a solid Fusion Restaurant that's worth a visit if you're in the area, or want to try something different. My boss and I decided to go to a nice restaurant nearby, but with good food. I saw that Chez Melange had an above average rating, so we tried it. I had the chicken rustica sandwhich, which was pretty good, somewhat bland, but still tasty. My boss had the basa de fracaise, which he said was also very well prepared. What was a truely EXELLENT dish was the rock candy, which was shrimp in a thai glaze, which has a sweet and sour taste. Im usually not one for seafood, but this dish was so yummy! The servers were very attentive, and when drinks were running low, they were right there to refill. I would definately suggest this restaurant! Pros: Serive, food, very speedy food. I agree with the reviews--this place is upscale-ish for the South Bay. Has a very 1992 ambiance to it. It can be nice for family holidays and brunch. \r \r This was my very first restaurant--I came here as infant, back when they use to have this great side bakery that sold chocolate truffles in the shape of footballs. The owners have several great Californian restaurants in the South BayIm not sure if they still own all of them but theyre worth a try, especially Misto Cafe and Bakery (Hawthorne Blvd and Via Valmonte)--Christine's, The Depot, etc. Pros: holiday specials, brunch Cons: atmosphere, prices more

Aspires to be a South Bay foodies destination. Waitstaff is truly outstanding, comparable to the service expected at upscale W. LA restaurants. Biggest weakness is the inconsistency of the food. The menu is creative, but is hit/miss. Foie gras itself, while well prepared, was paired with a terrible tasting fruit cake. The goat cheese and pear salad was excellent, as was the truffle pasta (highly recommended). Entrees, while very creative sounding on the menu, were average in execution. Portions are generous and the prices are reasonable in range. Additionally, the restaurant is located in what appeared to be a former coffee shop, which takes away from the ambiance. Diners will not mistake Chez Melange for an upscale restaurant, but it is above average for the South Bay. My favorite place in the South Bay. I crave the fried chicken salad! The service is impeccable. Friendly yet professional. We never want for anything here. We're always well taken care of. The food is always lovely. more

I know there is no single other restaurant in the South Bay that can contend with the gifts Chez Melange has to offer. The food is the absolute best around, with so many eclectic choices, and a menu that changes nightly. The service is astounding, with some of the friendliest people I have ever met in a restaurant, and the professionalism that is lacking in every other restaurant in the area. If you want an amazing night of food, with the care and comfort that so many upscale places don't have, make sure your next visit is to Chez Melange. Had dinner last night at the new Chez Melange. Wonderful. Had Duck Vindaloo great, my friend had pork belly and clams -tried some very tasty.Next door they have a gastropub called Bouzy -walked thru seemed like fun -packed, plan to go back. Love this restaurant. Chef Robert Bell very creative. Co owner Michael Franks very friendly Englishman. Daily changing menu. They are open for breakfast, lunch , dinner. LOVE THE FRIED CHICKEN SALAD. New Sushi Bar addition. Love the wine list. Great desserts more
