Good Food, Service, For Big People 3/4/2012

My husband, daughter, mom and I went to Carmines for Sunday brunch. We had a thick crust pizza with onions, bacon and broccoli. The service was excellent. The pizza was very good tasting. They really piled on the veggies. The crust was very well done and hard to cut. My complaint is about the seating and mirrors in the ladies room. They are too big (high). I felt like I was sitting in Papa Bear's chair. Every woman in the place had her feet dangling in mid-air because the booths are too deep. The mirror in the ladies room was so high my short mother couldn't see in it. Who built this place, King Kong? I know the seats would require an expensive overhaul and they do have tables with smaller chairs, but maybe they could lower the mirrors. more

horrible customer service 10/14/2011

I tried to use a coupon that was less than one week out of date. I always support local business but i will never support this one again. the only reason i was given for not taking the coupon was ""we just don't take expired couponst"". I tried nicely to explain that it was less than a week old and i could understand if it was even a month or older and that i thought for sure a local business would understand that. Now i've wasted $ for a coupon that i bought for this restaurant specifically. That's not a way to run a local business. I'll certainly be telling my clients and friends about this poor service.\r more

Not Very Good At All 8/5/2011

Chose to visit this restaurant from a Groupon I purchased and thought would be good on the same night. Although it wasn't, we decided to eat there anyway. We were served nothing but drinks while waiting for our food (even though we had small children with us). I was very disappointed in the very small servings until I tasted this dog food. I guess they mistakingly thought they were serving too much when they saw how much people left on their plates. The calamari was the worst I have ever had and the pizza was not much better. Service was good and atmosphere was OK. Anyone want a free groupon? more

They call themselves a pizzeria? Really? 6/26/2011

6.26.11 Chose to visit Carmine's tonight with a friend because I had a craving for some deep dish pizza. Wish I'd just gotten a pan pizza from Pizza Hut instead. The breadsticks we were served while waiting on our 16"" Sicilian Deep Dish pizza were easily the most bland breadsticks I'd ever been served. The olive oil and spices didn't do much to help. The bread and oil was just plain...blah. I was worried the pizza wouldn't be much better, since it was probably made with the same dough. I was correct. There was just something lacking from their Sicilian Deep Dish. Not enough cheese or sauce or something. That, and the crust was way too hard and overdone to be edible. I'll give them two stars only because we received a warm greeting, prompt service, and a thank you as we left. more

Worst service ever 5/23/2011

Worst service in the triangle. The owner didn't let me use GROUPONS although I was following his rules. They waiter laughed at me for trying to strictly follow the rules they created. The place was empty. Just us in the Restaurant. Twisted noodles just a few feet aways was packed at the same time. No doubts why Carmine's was empty... more

Excellent Food 3/27/2011

So glad to find good Italian food in Chapel Hill. Suzanne was one of the best waitresses I have ever had. I will be recommending that my friends and co-workers try them out. more

Amazing pizza! 1/28/2011

My husband and I went to Carmine's Wed. night and I was reminded again how wonderful their pizza is! I truly believe it's one of the best in town. They are generous with the cheese and toppings, and the crust is light and wonderful. My husband ordered spaghetti with meatballs in the Bolognese sauce. He said it was wonderful as well. On top of that, they had 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesdays, so we had a really nice meal. Highly recommended! more

service ala N.Y/N.J 12/11/2010

We are from L.I.,N.Y.We found pizza heaven here and decided to try eating in since our hostess LESLIE all along has been a true blue waitress/heroine ala the NY/NJ people. She encouraged us to dine in.\r \r We adored the chicken parmigiana and house salad.\r \r I do think the bread needs more toasting than just a bowl of oil to sop it up with and my hubby was a bit mad that his shrimp fra diavlo was over-cooked .\r \r But let me take home a large wonderful pizza for 5.99 and I am there along with a calzone.\r \r Think we will stick to LESLIE'S choices of specialty pasta's as she was one true waitress that loved her customers and felt so well of where she worked.\r \r The cheeses on and in anything at CARMINE'S are addictive. The taste of their pizza is nothing short of beautiful with yummy cheese oil.(you N.Y and N.J. people know!)\r Better hope LESLIE is your waitress..she is the authentic eastcoast gal with a smile, story and honest.\r \r Jody Frein more

Laid back with good food 11/18/2010

Went here with an old friend and it had been awhile since we'd seen each other. We stayed talking over pizza until quite awhile after the kitchen had closed because so many things had happened in our lives. The staff (thanks leslie) was so understanding and kind and did not push us our the door the first second the kitchen closed. She was respectful and gave us space to talk and catch up, but still paid attention to when we needed another refill or the bill.\r \r AND, to top it all off, it was my first time there, and the pizza was amazing! The environment was of a cute little italian eatery, and I feel like I found a little gem in CH. more

Best Gluten Free pizza ever! 10/5/2010

The best gluten free pizza we've found anywhere! Not overly salty as so many are. The chef came out and talked to us about our menu choices and there were many. Canolli cream for dessert, but gluten free bread pudding is in the works :) Our server was fabulous too. We will definitely be back. more

Tasty Pizza for cheap 10/2/2010

They have coupons for $5.99 large carry out cheese pizzas. Take it home, put some toppings on (or pay a bit more and get what you want on it) and you have a tasty meal for 2+ for under $7 with tax. Well done. more

Wonderful experience 9/25/2010

I had found this place through Citysearch, so my friends and I thought we would check it out for my birthday dinner. We had reservations at 7:30, but didn't get seated until 7:40. They were so apologetic, we received free appetizers and dessert. The Italian garlic bread appetizer was delicious, I highly recommend it. Everyone cleared their plates, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was really perfect. If you are looking for a great venue where you can have a lot of guests and the food is a decent price at excellent quality! more

Just like home! 2/5/2010

The staff at Carmine's make you feel like family. The food is excellent (coming from someone who is Italian)fresh, delicious and appetizing. Kudos, to the Darius and his staff for always making the customer feel at home. Ciao Louis Pros: Great food Cons: Location more

Great meal and atmosphere for the price! 3/27/2009

I have enjoyed Italian restaurants in Cary (eg, Biaggi's, Vespa, Bella Napoli), and Casalinga in Raleigh. This was by far the best Italian meal for the price of any I have tried in the Triangle.! The atmosphere was clean and modern. I expected more of a modern day pizzeria meal, but felt the meal quality far exceeded my expectations. The ingredients were fresh, the cheeses, the tomatoes, the pasta was well prepared. The owners were warm and hospitable. My only suggestion is more warmth on entry. You won't be disappointed and once the word gets out, this place will be packing them in! Pros: Food was wonderful! Cons: Waiter was slow to get to table but great once arriving more

Used to be good--But NO MORE! Never again! 3/25/2009

We were impressed by our first visit to Carmine's and I mistakenly raved about it to many people--including my boss. After receiving two shockingly negative reports back about it in a row, we went a third time and experienced what my boss and another friend had. The service was shockingly horrible. As another person on here reports--food is delivered to other tables but wasn't to ours. We were there for lunch and it took over 50 minutes to receive our food. Once it arrived, it was cold and not at ALL like it had been the first two times we had tried Carmine's. My dish was so so so salty it was inedible. The waitress NEVER came to check on us (clearly because she knew the food she delivered up to us was substandard), never once got a refill on any of our drinks (after it took 33 minutes just to receive our drinks in the first place), another 18 minutes for the bill to arrive after we asked for it....and then it was WRONG! The manager (??? I use this loosely--the guy who rings the bills) came over to acknowledge that it was taking long and yet he didn't check with the waitress, check with the kitchen or do anything about it. Even more disturbing is that when I contacted Carmine's about our experience, they simply did not care! . . . a $50 lunch and it was horrendous. Yes, we had two good experiences before, but between the feedback coming back to me from those I recommended the place to, and our last experience, I would seriously recommend you dine ANYWHERE BUT CARMINE'S Trust me, you'll be thankful you did. Pros: Easy to get a table Cons: HORRIBLE service, Inconsistent quality more

Best Italian Food in Chapel Hill 3/20/2009

My husband and I have been to Carmine's several times because of the homemade Italian sauce. I know GOOD SAUCE because I make my own. The key to Italian cooking is ""THE SAUCE"". The pasta, seafood dishes are superb. The thin crust pizza was also very good and they deliver which is an extra plus. The service is very good, and the waiters are always looking to help you. My husband and I recommend Carmine's Restaurant, it's the BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN TOWN. by Mary and Buddy Giordano - Chapel Hill Pros: The atmosphere and the music the was very delightful. more

Great Place to take your Family and Friends 3/18/2009

The staff and chef at Carmine's made you feel like you were having dinner with your best friends! If the Chef recommeds a special dish...make sure you order what he says! The Pork Chops with the cranberry and balsamic sauce was the best meal I have had in the area in years! I would recommend everyone add this restaurant to their list! Pros: Warm, friendly and best of all great food Cons: There are no cons! more

Italian Food LikeHome 3/18/2009

So I drop in for a late lunch and can't pass up the ZUPPA DI PESCE..what a mountain of Mussels, Clams . Calamari and Shrimp in a really nicely spiced sauce over pasta. The seafood was rhe star of the show here.As a relocated New Englander I've missed the North End of Boston's great Italian food, especially pasta and seafood combos. Now its here. Pros: Best Pasta & Seafood more
