Captain Betty's has a great selection of vintage in a wide range of sizes, just about every piece deserves a second home in a vintage-lover's closet. There's product in every nook and cranny and quite the men's selection to boot. My only problem with the store is Betty herself, she seems a little quirky and rude. She gave me the tour and repeated several times that the items in the case were more expensive than items on the floor, which is fine but I didn't need to be told that SEVERAL TIMES. Many items in the store are not priced and when I asked to see a rhinestone/paste necklace out of the case she told me SEVERAL TIMES that the stones were hand-cut. Since there was no tag and her pricing seemed arbitrary I asked if she would take $3 less. She said no so I told her that was cool, I'd take it anyways. She proceeded to tell me that she only gave me that price because it was slow today, I said that was fine I have many rhinestone necklaces at home so I'm happy to just get a deal. Then she said ""Well then you don't need this one."" At this point I was just amazed that a shop keeper was telling me I don't need her wares. She then proceeded to TELL THE NECKLACE GOODBYE while she wrapped it up and placed it with the rest of my purchases. Obviously she treats her business as her own personal closet and doesn't like to see her items go. She also tried to convince me that a haircalf bag was real leopard even though the tag said 100% leather and was not old enough to possibly have real leopard fur. It didn't even feel like fur, it was definitely haircalf. And people claim this woman is knowledgeable? more

I live out of town and was in Delaware for a meeting. I was on my way back to my car to head home and noticed Captain Betty's. The store's name was intriguing. Then I spotted the gorgeous clothes in the window. I couldn't resist. I was barely inside and Betty quickly came up to me, introduced herself, and gave me a wonderful tour of her store. Stopping there on the spur of the moment turned out to be such a very special surprise. Betty then let me browse on my own, politely offering to help if I needed any assistance. It wasn't long before I found a gorgeous full-length coat that was just my size. I paid for the coat and Betty invited me to come back again very soon. She is about to expand her store. I have been missing this store since we moved back to Columbus three years ago. Captain Betty (and she is the CAPTAIN of her store) has been involved in the Columbus vintage clothing scene for decades and definitely knows her stuff. She is a flamboyant, charming, outspoken character...even curmudgeonly in the best of ways. If you are a newbie to vintage shopping, she can spot it and will do her best to educate you. Trust her...she will find the perfect thing for you and can fit you better than you. If you have been to her shop a few times...and she will recognize you..she will let you wander and point you towards the trunks and drawers to dig through...treasure troves all. Shopping at Captain Betty's is an experience and plan on at least an afternoon of exploring. I think her prices are very reasonable...the quality is superb and you can find any decade of clothing you desire. My best story...two days before my wedding I had nothing to wear. I had seen a kimono in her shop that I had fallen in love with. I went to the store just a few minutes before closing apologizing...thought it was a day that she was open later. Explained the dilemma, apologized, told her I would come back tomorrow. I again spotted the kimono which she had decided to keep for herself. I understood. She walked me through the store suggesting dresses. I was in love with the kimono but understood it was off the market. Went back the next day and she told me that the kimono would be mine, helped me find the perfect underdress and I got a very good deal pricewise. Go to visit her...she can be your vintage hero, too. Pros: Best vintage selection I have ever encountered...it's like an archive of style. Cons: Store hours not always optimal...but Captain Betty owns it. She can be open when she wants! more

After searching all over central Ohio I have finally found a great vintage clothing store. Although it is about 30 minutes outside of Columbus it is worth the drive. Captain Betty's has about seven rooms of clothing and accessories and although I was not looking for mensware she has a great men's selection which is very difficult to find. All of the clothes are beautiful and look hardly worn. The biggest draw for myself though is Betty herself, she has a vast knowledge of current and past fashion and really takes time to educate her customers about vintage fashions. I felt like a little girl playing dress up and I cannot wait to make another trip out there this weekend! What a find! Captain Betty's was far better than I ever imagined. The variety of clothing, jewelry, purses, belts, and hats is incredible. The clothing isn't cheap, but reasonable. The woman who runs it was helpful and I didn't feel she was rude at all. She is a character however and may say what she thinks to other employees in the store. I didn't feel that she was too pushy but offered to help me with whatever I was looking for. As soon as I left I couldn't wait to come back in with my room mates. CAPTAIN BETTY HAS BEEN IN THE BIZZ FOR DECADES. SHE KNOWS HER STORE LIKE THE BACK OF HER HAND. SHE DOES NOT FORCE PEOPLE INTO SLIPS. SHE SUGGEST THAT THEY WEAR THEM TO PROTECT HER WONDERFUL CLOTHING. SHE HAS SOME VERY RARE ITEMS INCLUDING JEWELRY, CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN. SHE IS A VERY SPECIAL 70 YEAR OLD LADY WHO DEMANDS RESPECT OF THOSE THAT VISIT HER STORE. IT IS A VERY SPECIAL TREAT TO SEE HER IN HER MIST OF TREASURES. more

Although Captain Betty's has a wonderful array of beautiful vintage clothing, the customer service I recieved was the worst I have ever experienced. Betty was EXTREMELY rude and pushy from the minute I walked into her store, and by the end, she had forced me into wearing a used slip around her store, and insisted that she dress me since I obviously had no idea how to treat good vintage clothing. I treated her clothes with nothing but respect and gentility, and there was no reason for her to treat me so rudely. The clothes are also very very expensive, so skip this vintage nightmare, the customer service literally can't get worse!
