Canyon Animal Hospital

I've gone to Canyone Animal Hospital for over 35 years. My aniimals and I have always been treated with respect and great care. The staff at Canyon Animal Hospital always call the next day to make sure my animal is doing well. They also believe in different areas of veternarian medicine and aren't afraid to refer to specialists. People who try to find fault with this practice and their staff are usually people that don't like spending money for the proper care for their animals. more

I have been going to this vet for 10 years. Dr. Hamil is wonderful. He is so gentle with our dogs and so knowledgeable - I could not recommend a better person to deal with animals. My dogs love going to visit him! more

Dr. G is the new owner of the practice as of late 2009 and since he has taken over, it has become a very different place to bring pets. While sitting in the lobby a man was waiting for his records telling me that Dr. G never returned calls and his dog died. Separately, there is a $12 cost on top of any prescriptions filled - ridiculous. Dr. G is one of these doctors that says ""leave everything to me"" - next thing you know you have a bill for hundreds of dollars for tests that have been performed without your consent. This used to be a great place to take pets for care. With this new ownership and lack of sensitivity, I highly recommend a new vet. Pros: great staff Cons: price/new ownership (Dr. G) more

There are three doctors in this practice and all are top notch. That said, although Canyon Animal Hospital has always been pricey, they are now a bit over the top $$$ wise ... especially in this tough economy. Coupled with the trend toward higher prices, some of the staff can be friendly or not depending on their mood. Follow up also can leave something to be desired depending on which vet you are dealing with . And perhaps the most disconcerting factor is feeling that the office is not as organized as it could be.There are other practices that offer a high caliber of veterinary care and are also down to earth and spot on as far diagnosis, surgery etc. at more reasonable prices ... I hope that the docs at Laguna Canyon Animal Hospital realize that their clients are having to keep a tighter control over their finances and reassess some of their current fees . The experience starts with a great staff being very helpful, when you are trying to help your fur baby who can't tell you what's wrong. The staff are informed, kind and helpful from scheduling to weighing everybody in. The doctors are bright, personable, very well-spoken and incredibly in touch with your animals needs, and the freaked out moms needs too. After getting news from Dr. Scanlon, a vet at another practice, that my dog had a rare disease and would require accupuncture for the rest of his life. I got a second opinion with Canyon Animal Hopsital who diagnosed my dog with a simple anal gland infection that was cleared up in about a week. They are common sense and get to the source of the issue. They aren't one of those groups that charges you an arm and a leg. more

The Vets are the best I've had (and I've had a few in the past 30 years). Compassionate, caring, dedcated and extremely knowledgeable. The vet techs are great, and no question is too trivial. I recommend them to my puppy buyers, and they are the ONLY ones I recommend. The only drawback is that although they have three Vets, they are a small facility -- which means the small (CLEAN) waiting room is almost always crowded- and sometimes the wait is long. \r That being said, I'd rather have a Vet where the waiting room is crowded (which means many people are putting their trust in them and in their skills) than an UNcrowded waiting room where there aren't many clients....... One of the Vet's there has single handedly saved two of my dogs by his fast and skillful intervention, and the other Vet has delivered puppies there in an emergency situation for me, and has talked me through tough dceliveries on the phone in the wee hours of the morning. I can't say enough good things about them and their staff. We trust them completely and we love them! Pros: Skillfull, knowledgeable, compassionate and caring. Wiling to go the extra mile for their clients. Cons: small waiting room. more

I agree! They have been my vets for 20 years or more. Dr. Hamil is very intelligent, interested, compassionate. He discusses what's wrong simply and logically. He is a good diagnostician, and a good surgeon. Good support staff, too. He is involved in the AKC worlds, but he and his wife are also very involved with animal welfare and rescue. They are just wonderful! more

Truly a wonderful doctor -- GREAT listener; GREAT communicator; LOVES pets and they love HIM; NEVER rushes visit; includes YOU in decision-making process; AKC-affiliated; breeder of World Class Champion Bloodhounds. Not the least expensive, but one of the FEW vets I trust with my best friends, when it comes to anything more serious than routine vaccinations.
