Worst dining experience in the area. 6/8/2006

Brother Olivers at Madison and Manzanita. One of the worst dining experiences of my time in Sacramento (7 years.) Prices comparable to Beba with flavors reminiscent of Home Town Buffet. We ordered prime rib and a New York strip. The portions were tiny and flavorless; the manager claimed the cuts were prime but that was highly doubtful. I have had much better cuts from my local supermarket. The salads were unimaginative. They consisted of iceberg lettuce, unripe cherry tomatoes, red onion slices, two thin slices of cucumber and store bought croutons. Even the bread was flavorless; it had a thin crust with the inner body of Wonder Bread. We both chose baked potato. The half of a potato came soggy, with margarine, sour cream, and a few snips of green onions (not chives.) We ate most of our salads, none of the potato and about one third of the beef each. When we let the wait staff know we were disappointed, he got the manager. The manager arrived at our table and was incensed that we would complain. He refused to remove anything from the bill. We were polite as we complained but were met with raised voices and disdain. Spend a little more time on the road and take your seventy-five dollars downtown if you want to enjoy a dinner. At Beba I have had rib eye with mushrooms and a cabernet sauce for the exact same price! Take my advice and stay away from Brother Olivers. more
