Best Hair Joint in St. Louis 3/28/2008

I have been to some of the most exclusive, uppity salons in St. Louis assuming that sleek decor and an expensive price list will guarantee beautiful hair. Time and time again, I have been disappointed in the quality, lack of creativity and snooty customer service. On a whim, I made an appointment at Bouffant Daddy because it's just a few blocks from home and, heck, it has a cute name. Mary, the receptionist, was friendly and personable, and based on what I wanted, she booked me with Erin. I wanted a drastically different cut and color and Erin took over three hours on my hair, the first 30-45 minutes of which we just spent talking and coming up with ideas. Erin is an anal-retentive perfectionist and she was not satisfied until the cut was just perfect and she had applied the most amazing 2-color combination I have ever been lucky enough to have on top of my head. She always has great ideas and suggestions and I always feel hip and beautiful when I walk out the door. And she is super sweet and approachable to boot. If you want a totally homogenized, suburban, SUV-driving, soccer-mom, Martha-Stewart-helmet hairdo, this probably isn't the place for you, but no need to worry because there are apparently countless shops around town that cater to that sort of thing. If you want a unique hairstyle and don't mind someone giving you her undivided attention for several hours, Erin is the gal to call. Since she is also a trained barber, my husband has even started going to see Erin, and his hair has never looked better (gone are the days when he would go to a chain place where he would get buzzed all over with a #3 clipper and be done in 8 minutes...). The shop is hella cute and the owner stocks the shelves with unusual handbags, jewelry and accessories. They also display a rotating collection of work from local artists. If you're sick of the pretention of the local ""big-name"" salons, give Erin at Bouffant Daddy a try. You won't be disappointed. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Value, Don't have to book appointment 6 weeks out Cons: NA more

WORST color ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 12/15/2007

Bouffant Daddy came highly recommended so I was happy to try a new, seemingly nice salon. Although my stylist was very nice, the color job she did left my hair completely screwed up. Instead of doing the normal lowlights/highlights that I had booked my appointment for, she took the lazy route and just filled in my roots with bleach! Leaving my roots bright orange. Needless to say, since my lowlights were not touched, there are big brownish splotches everywhere! What made it worse is that my bangs are grey because of a phenomenon that she referred to as ""gunmetal"" which supposedly happened because the toner took too well to my bangs and she more than assured me that with my first shampoo, it would just magically disappear. Well - after 3 shampoos, it did not ""disappear""!!! Pros: cheap (although will cost me a lot more in the long run) Cons: TERRIBLE color job more

THE best for curly hair!!! 10/1/2007

If you have curly hair like I do, you MUST try Bouffant Daddy! After years of hopping from salon to salon, trying to find someone who can cut curly hair without breaking the bank or my hair (I walked out of the last ""curl specialist"" approximately $250 lighter in my checking account and tears in my eyes!) I am happy to say that I have FINALLY found someone who knows what she is doing! I did some research on the web and found great reviews for this salon and my stylist Erin. Her ""before and after"" work was also shown on the website so I decided to give her a try. Pros: Stylists know how to cut curly hair, awesome atmosphere, polite staff... Cons: Can't think of one! more

Great stylist, wonderful merchandise 9/3/2007

I've been getting my hair cut and my color done at Bouffant for about two years. The color is always right, the cut is never too short, just what I wanted. Samarra is probably the favorite hair stylist I've had in my life. The shop also has great jewelry made by several local women and the coolest handbags. It's a great place to treat yourself or find a gift. I highly recommend it to anyone, in fact, I sent my best friend, a very curly blonde, to Jeff and she's been a regular almost as long as I have. Pros: Can shop and get your hair done at the same time. Cons: Parking can be a little hard to find, in a pinch, use Schlafly's and walk around the corner. more

A Must try for Curly Hair and all those who have given up hope of a good style! 5/22/2007

WOW, finally a great place. I am in my 30's and I have never, ever, never had a good haircut. I have tried everywhere from chain salons to upscale. I decided to try Bouffant Daddy since they specialize in curly hair. Pros: Knowlege of curly hair, good price, very colorful Cons: parking, but it is downtown Maplewood, so its to be expected more

BEST SALON EVER 10/13/2006

PRETTYGIRL8, obvioulsy does not have any class, taste, or style. Jeff Noble, aka ""Bouffant Daddy,"" has been cutting my hair for many years, and I have NEVER been dissatisfied. His knowledge and creativity has put smiles on thousands of faces. Curly hair is his specialty; so I find it hard to believe that he gave prettygirl8 a bad haircut. Here are some words of wisdom, prettygirl8, sometimes you just cant fix ugly... Pros: Knowledge, Training, Expertise more

Worst Haircut 9/9/2006

I was given a recommendation to visit Bouffant Daddy. I received the worst haircut ever from Jeff ""The Curly Hair Specialist"". Hair is uneven and looks like a beginner cut it. Had to go to another salon just to even out the mess. Avoid! Pros: Cute store Cons: Horrible skill level. Talks a good game but can't cut. more
