Lover of Cajun Food 10/26/2008

We had gone to the Blue Bayou many years ago when Chef Mazur was still alive and the food was very good. However, we went there in early October and I would have to say that the dish I had was almost inedible. I had the "Barbecue Shrimp" and if anyone knows what that is, there should not be a hint of barbecue sauce in that dish. Pascal's Manale in the Garden District of New Orleans has, in my opionion, the best bbq shrimp, and the sauce is a mix of butter, garlic, black pepper, and a blend of herbs. The Blue Bayou's version was a mixture of tasteless shrimp that was swimming in a tomato-based bbq sauce with raw onions! UGH. It was disgusting. The other 3 in the party had Etouffee and it was just so-so. The restaurant had only a few other people there, yet it took us 2 hours to get out of there. The best part of the meal was their salad. By the way, the waitress never asked us how the meal was. I don't think I would ever go back there again, even though I have fond memories of more

We used to like this place but don't go anymore for 2 reasons.\r First, it is promoted as a Cajun restaurant, and it used to be, but more recently the food was bland. When we asked why, we were told that some customers thought it was too spicy. Maybe they shouldn't call it Cajun, then, or at least give the option of having real Cajun flavor.\r Second, the last few times we went, we had a reservation, but the hostess, in a condescending, maternal tone, said, "Now, go have a drink at the bar. Your table won't be ready for a while". And it was a long time each time. I don't appreciate being told to have a drink as I don't drink and don't want to sit at a bar for long. That is why one makes a reservation. more
