Best

I absolutely love Blue. The workers are talented and professional. The environment makes you feel at home. Would definitely recommend.

Worst

I wasn't very impressed with my haircut. I asked for something... but she went with what she wanted, not what I wanted. It took three months to grow out her chop job.

Great Experience This Time! 11/5/2006

I must say, I had a lovely experience this time around. I was greeted warmly when I arrived, was offered a cup of coffee, and introduced to my new stylist (because I got the Blue Cut, I didn't know until I arrives who would be cutting my hair). She spent a very long time listening to me, asking questions, and offering suggestions. She was absolutely meticulous about cutting my hair, practically one strand at a time! Plus, it was so refreshing to have a stylist who didn't push the latest styles and those pricy Bumble and bumble products! I especially appreciated that she didn't try to talk me into their haircoloring services, which I have no interest in. As long as they continue this high level of customer service, I will keep coming back and recommending them hight. (P.S. If you're lucky enough to have an experience like I did, be sure to TIP GENEROUSLY! Pros: Professional, friendly, respectful staff; excellent cutting techniques Cons: Loud music; coffee could use cream (not just skim milk) and disposable cups more

It's all about them (not me!) 9/11/2006

After having my second baby, I looked for a good local salon to get my hair cut and colored. Blue is on the same street as my pediatrician so I tried it. The stylists do not listen to you. The owner cuts everyone's hair short even if you want it long or to grow it out. I was given a razor cut which is not appropriate for my hair type. It was hard to maintain even after I purchased all the ""recommended"" products. The color was too dark and the next time they added red highlights which made me look like a clown.\r Overall, a very disappointing experience. Pros: Location Cons: Pushy staff, obnoxious owner, do not listen to the client more

They Just Don't Listen! 8/29/2006

All I wanted was a good blunt cut. I'm a suburban soccer mom and don't have time to fuss with my hair. I had no interest in the numerous products they were pushing. I resented that the stylist and the owner criticized my haircolor, calling it ""a homemade job."" The stylist gave me what she wanted and occasionally turned my hair over to her assistant-in-training, who had to be reminded to pay attention. To my horror, the razor was brought out and my hair was chopped into layers. They put tons of goo on it just to hold it all together -- ""styling products,"" they called them. From the moment I returned home, I couldn't do a thing with it. That was weeks ago, and I'll never go back there again. Pros: Clean; friendly staff Cons: They don't listen to what you want; blaring music; unsanitary coffee cups more

perfect haircut 8/15/2006

I went to Blue for the first time last month. I loved it! I received the $34 studio cut with Leah and it was the best haircut that I have ever had. We had a long consultation and the products that she suggested for me were perfect. I am so happy that I found Blue, I will definetly be going back to Leah. Thank you! Pros: good attitude more

Thank you Julie 7/11/2006

I went to this salon as a referral from a friend I had been growing out a BAD haircut and was terrified to try again. I was greeted by an assistant who happily walked me in to meet my stylist who sat down and went through a 15 minute consultation with me before I was sent to the shampoo bowl. I felt at ease and relaxed. My stylist did exactly what I wanted and checked every piece of my hair for accuracy. She was friendly, and comforting. I, as well as my husband, friends and family LOVE my new style. I FINALLY feel beautiful again. Thank you blue! Pros: service, parking more

Don't bother 7/8/2006

I went in for the promotional studio cut for $34- and only wanted a trim, less then one inch off. Watch out! My stylist did Not do what I asked her for and took the liberty of razor cutting my long hair almost to a create a mullet. She then tried curling and applying products to make it look better. She had an apathetic attitude and I had to take a shower to get rid of this ""do"" she created. My hair now feels thinner and I'm hoping this will just grow out.... Cons: unattentive, poor attitude more

I can't believe what I've been reading !!! 1/27/2006

I have been going to Blue for over two years, and can't say enough about the wonderful staff, the atmosphere and the excellence in hair cutting and color !! From the moment you are greeted by Linda ( you can't help but feel great after a minute with her) to the dynamo , Kerry, who colors my hair to perfection ( along with allot of laughs !), to the supurb cutting style of the owner, Paula Donovan, it is a fabulous experience !! The one time I didn't let Paula do what she thought best,I was back 2 weeks later and she did what should have been done the first time-AT NO Charge !!! Pros: Staff, Ambience, Friendliness more

Unfriendly 1/19/2006

My family and I used to all go to Blue. First of all the owner is extrmely rude. She is always standing over her stylists even when they know what they are doing. The owner charges 90 dollars and doesn't even blow dry your hair, so you then have to tip out the stylist who blows our your hair as well. The owner is always yelling and talking about other stylists. In the begininng she cute very well but the more we went the worst and shorter she became. Some of the other girls are great but again, they usually end up leaving. Also, they try to push products on you as if you didn't spend enough money as it was. Pros: Clean Cons: Expensive, Pushy, Rude more

Don't go to Julie!!! 1/14/2006

I went to Julie last week, and I hate to say it but I have chunks of my hair taken out, big giant holes in my hair, which I could see being created while she weilded her razor blade. I feel like this kind of haircut could have been avoided if she had paid any attention to me at all, she was late, her assistant was more attentive and helpful than her, and she barely said a word or looked at me in the mirror, she was too busy looking everywhere else in the salon! I felt neglected and ripped off even though the owner told me i looked fabulous. I, nor anyone who looks at my haircut, which I've had to try to get fixed, will go to that salon or that stylist again. Pros: Parking Cons: Julie, obscene prices, snobbish more

Not worth it. 1/13/2006

The stylist was rude, arrogant, and her skills were, well, unimpressive. What I paid at Blue was about the same as the amount I pay for a top stylist on Newbury Street. But the haircut? So horrible. Pros: Parking Cons: Bad attitude, Overpriced, Poor skills more

what happened? weird!!! 10/8/2005

It was going fine; I was treated well while I waited for 20 minutes. The stylist was attentive and discussed a plan with me, proceeded with a luxurious shampoo, then started to cut. Then the owner, flys over- seemingly out of nowhere- oblivious to the plan- interrupts my stylist, starts applying products, then starts trying out the latest edgy techniques she just learned in NYC. The results were not what I requested. I was horrified by the lack of respect that the owner showed both to me and to my stylist. And now I have a wacky cut. Pros: parking, coffee, good stylists Cons: strange owner, edgy techniques more

User review by cdown 10/5/2005

My mother, my sisters and my father swear by this place. They love getting their hair done there and rave about it. My only experience with Blue however was horrendous. The technician was nice, but I had the most excruciatingly painful wax I've ever had. The technician did give me a good shape but she was incredibly slow and I've never had such a painful wax in my life. I was charged 30 dollars which would have perhaps been understandable if the wax had been good. It was tortuous though. I couldn't wait to leave. I was also kept waiting for a half hour plus when I arrived. So although my family loves getting their hair done there, I would definitely tell you to avoid getting waxed there. I can pay someone else a much lower price to do a much better job. Pros: Cleanliness, Good Eyebrow Shape Cons: Late and Slow, Extremely Painful, Overly Expensive more

You get what you pay for 9/27/2005

After researching many salons in the area, blue stands out as the top. The staff is well trained, attentive and professional. As with any salon, the experience is designated by price. I asked for a senior cutter and colorist and my results were exactly what I expected. I know that the lower end prices in salons are the less experienced stylists, but all of the stylists work together, and there is definitely a signature colorist. My stylist was interrupted 3 times to help. I would reccommend you research the staff before. My experience at the shampoo bowl was worth the money in itself...heaven. They do ""quote"" you prior so be prepared. Truly amazing work. I'll be back Pros: personality, experience, results Cons: parking, holding(phone), interruptions more

visit salon on wednesday 9/17/2005

From my experiences at Blue I have found the owner to be very overpowering and demanding. The atmosphere when she is around is obviously more uncomfortable for the clients and the staff(shes there everyday except for wednesdays). Stylist are great, pleasant to talk to and seem well trained, but all the good ones eventually leave. Definately way over-priced for sevices and products(I've seen the same products for less on Newbury st.). I will not be returning, I'm tired of paying for the owners mid-life crisis. Pros: parking, staff Cons: cheap wine, owner more

Pricey, but Very worth it. 9/6/2005

I moved to Boston from New York, and a friend of mine recommended that I try Blue. I gave it a shot, and am very glad that I did. It was a first rate haircut--I got mine done in NY at Bumble & bumble, and they are trained there, so I knew I was getting the most recent in cutting technique and style. Julie, my stylist did an amazing job giving me a really arty, perfectly layered longer cut that followed the shape of my head perfectly. She really took her time and made sure that it was right. I've found my salon and stylist. Pros: amazing service, coffee, wine , great results. more

Not a good experience... 9/2/2005

I was sorely disappointed with Blue. After hearing that I worked as a full-time waitress/bartender, the stylist stopped looking at my hair and told me her rates and asked if I could afford them -- I felt that was very rude. My cut was uneven, but when I asked her to fix it, she told me that the style needed to be uneven to look good. My highlights were too light (my coloring needs warm tones, but she went with a very ashy, light blonde). I was too intimidated to ask her to fix them. Basically, I felt terrible when I left, and was so unhappy that I went to another salon to have my color fixed and the cut evened out 3 weeks later. My experience at Blue was very stressful. Perhaps the other stylists are better -- I wouldn't know because I will definitely not go there again. Pros: Ample Parking Cons: Attitude, Expensive more

A regular 8/30/2005

I have searched for a very long time for a stylest with such skill. Blue is a bit pricey but the safest bet for a great cut and color evertime. I have been a client for over 3 years. Pros: skill Cons: price more

Best Haircut I've had! 4/25/2005

I have been to many hair salons, and the best haircut I've had, by far, is from Paula at Blue. Even though she is very expensive, it's worth it. more

Great color & cut, high prices 3/7/2005

I have been going to Blue for about 3 years, and get compliments all the time about my hair, especially the wonderful natural looking color. They are pricey, but I think it's worth it. Personal attention from the owner is great. Pros: quality products, great color, freindly staff Cons: busy more

Awful. 2/24/2005

My experience with Blue was simply awful. I am astounded at the high rating here given the overwhelming number of negative reviews. I have several friends who feel the same way. The salon is shockinglyu overpriced, the owner's relationship with employees is nothing short of bizarre and the results are erratic. I had one okay experience but the following visits were disasterous. Paying $300 to have my haircolor ruined is unacceptable. My request for subtle, natural highlights in my naturally blong/light brown hair turned me into a brassy helmut head blonde requiring a visit to another salon for corrective color. In addition, the haircut services are nothing to write home about. Cons: Overpriced, Erratic results, overbearing owner more
