In Denver on business, actually my third trip this month. I always like to try the local fare and stay away from the chains, (Chili's, Olive Garden). I was searching for something different and came across the Black Eyed Pea which boasted real down home cookin'. \r
\r
The Good: The staff was really great, from the hostess to the waitress to the manager who was working the floor and checking in at every table. Real genuine southern hospitality, made you feel very welcome without being over bearing. \r
\r
The Bad: The Food. It was well, boring. It was just a hair about Hometown Buffet, I mean, really bad imitation southern food. I ordered meatloaf, mac & cheese, green beans, a salad and peach cobbler. \r
\r
The salad dressing, bleu cheese, had no taste at all. It looked like bleu cheese, chunks and all, but no flavor whatsoever. Like pouring milk on your salad. The salad itself was very small, not much lettuce, good thing because it was wilted. \r
\r
The meatloaf was just OK, not great, not bad, certainly not home made, and the brown gravy was oversalted. The mac & cheese was the biggest disappointment. I've had 'southern style' mac and cheese and this was like eating something out of a box or a frozen dinner. Again, the cheese sauce had no flavor at all. \r
\r
The green beans were good, though they had sat in the steamer all day. \r
\r
The peach cobbler was more cobbler than peaches, very little fruit and a lot of cake, with a tiny scoop of ice cream on top. \r
\r
All in all, I say stay away. \r
