Be Careful 11/30/2011

I do not recommend this dentist. The appearance of the office is professional, however, the dentistry is questionable. In particular, I believe that Dr. Bishop charges patients a lot of money for "preventative" procedures that are unnecessary. For example, Dr. Bishop uses sensitive (and costly) but dubious detection equipment to find "cavities" that may or may not really need to be filled. Before visiting Dr. Bishop, please read the New York Times article "A Closer Look at Teeth May Mean More Fillings" (published November 28, 2011 and available online) regarding this brand of dentistry: Dr. Bishop also sent me to her friend, an oral surgeon, who told me I needed over $5000.00 dollars worth of painful surgery for gum recession. My new dentist told me that the surgery is not necessary, and said, "Let me put it this way, if it were my own teeth I would not have it done." My new dentist is carefully monitoring the potential problem, rather than quickly jumping into an expensive and perhaps unnecessary "preventative" procedure. I do not have a problem with preventative dentistry per se, but do not think that "preventive" procedures are always the best or only way to approach dental care. Patients should always be given complete information. In my opinion, to present these procedures as absolutely necessary in order to make more money borders on unethical. Hope this review helps. Good luck in choosing your dentist. more

High price Low quality 3/24/2011

This dentist is not recommended, she ruined a tooth by improperly fitting a crown. The crown failed within two yrs and the underlying tooth was so damaged that it was recommended by several dentists that it be removed. When I called Dr. Bishop about the situation and if she guaranteed her work, she quickly turned to reasons why it was my fault even though this was over the phone. I have other crowns that have lasted 15 yrs done in another state. Her prices are higher than most and her integrity and quality are questionable. Front desk staff demands payment and then when reimbursed by insur. hands the check to you to be cashed when it is addressed to the dentist. They would not do it any other way and sent me to a bank who told me that dentist had sent other patients with the same checks that they could not cash. They are just incompetent. more

Incompetent But Colorful! 1/26/2009

This dentist definitely does not know what she is doing! A lot of "fluff n stuff". The staff all look pretty in pink but not much else. The hygienists are terrific so if you need anything more done than a cleaning, don't waste your time. She drilled a good tooth of mine down to nothing so that I had no choice but to have the root pulled. The temporary bridge that was made for me was substandard and I was humiliated while attending a dinner party. When mentioned to Dr. B., she just smiled. I showed the temporary to another dentist who couldn't believe his eyes that a professional would make such an appliance. She is definitely an inconsistent dentist. Unfortunately with me she was mostly a disappointment and very expensive. I had to stop the work she was doing and go to another dentist who did a super job in 2 weeks, as opposed to 5 months on Dr. B's schedule. Will try to steer you to expensive procedures, giving no other options. Don't be fooled by Miss Pretty in Pink! Pros: Hygienists do a super job! Cons: Inconsistent care, drawn out procedures, hard to get an appt., very expensive more

Best dentist in the triangle! 1/22/2009

I was a patient of Dr. Mazza for most of my life, and was a little concerned when he semi-retired and handed the reigns over to Dr. Bishop. But, I believe he made an excellent choice! * the office is clean and professional, full of comfortable colors to help ease anxiety * Dr. Bishop seems devoted to making the best use of new technologies; I love the fact they can x-ray me and immediately show me the results on a computer screen by the side of the chair! * even though I only go for my cleanings, the staff recognizes me, remembers tidbits of my life, and greets me as if I had only been there a week before. They are very good at their jobs, and I've happily introduced multiple people to their services - all of whom have become repeat customers, as well. Pros: great people, excellent results, terrific atmosphere, and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes Cons: paying full price up front, but at least they file the insurance for you! more

Jessica Bishop - a GREAT dentist who is honest and fair with no up-sells or agenda. My 2 cents... 12/21/2008

Great dentist. -- I have no idea what the other guy is talking about, but she never drills unnecessarily, does not force expensive procedures on me, always offers options and opinions, rather than dictates, and has a great staff, especially Laura, whom we LOVE. BTW, regarding the phone calls thing, A) they do call me back when it is required. B) I'm not sure about any of you, but I have rarely had a medical provider of any kind call me back except in emergencies or circumstances that require quick action, so I don't know what this dude's problem is. Docs are BUSY people and if they are good, they are REALLY BUSY. Live with it or ask some relative to go into practice with you as their only patient so you can get one-on-one service. Pros: Good at what she does, reasonable pricing. Cons: Pretty busy, hard to get apptmts. more

Are you kidding me 10/5/2008

Doesn't return phone calls. Doesn't know what the hell she is doing. doesn't care about her patience. Her lab says she doesn't know what she is doing. Her patients say she doesn't know what she is doing. Other dentists say she doesn't know what she is doing. Whatever you do do not go to her. Going to the dentist once is bad enough but to have to do it twice or three times is not acceptable. Cons: Incompetent. Unwilling to back up her work. more

Professional, caring and compassionate dentist. 4/3/2007

Dr. Bishop was a neighbor of mine when we moved to Chapel Hill from the California Bay Area. I've never been a fan of the dentist, but have alway's tried to be diligent about my cleanings every 6 months. I tried another dentist in the area first and was really disappointed as he did some work that did not need to be done, all in the name of preventative measures, and messed up one of my teeth because of it. When the filling fell out for the second time, I spoke to Dr. Bishop about it at a neighborhood get-together and she told me she'd be happy to have a look at it and to give her office a call and she'd fit me in. Well, she fixed the situation and I've not had one problem with it since. Needless-to-say, she became our permanent dentist. She is a terrific dentist, who is caring and concerned about her clients comfort and well-being and will not try to "up sell" you into procedures that are not needed. We ended up moving to Austin, TX due to a job relocation for my husband and I continued to get my dental care through her for the first year or so that we were in TX. When I realized that I needed to establish a dentist I could trust here in Austin, Dr. Bishop took the time to speak to her about my concerns regarding the use of novocane (I'm sensitive to epinepherine) when I have to have anything numbed. Use Dr. Bishop for your entire family with the utmost confidence, you will not be sorry! more
