The rest of the story... 7/12/2011

I have been employed by Bill Spade for 6 years in the HVAC Service and Installation Department. In a previous review, ""mredd6"" eluded to ""an issue with some coworkers"" which was experienced by his son. This took place a few weeks ago while setting a 25 ton rooftop unit for a local company in Northern Kentucky, one of which who has been a long term and excellent customer. On that day the temperatures were approaching 90 degrees and the fact we were working on a black rubber roof 20 feet in the air was adding to the discomfort. Although it was hot, this is Cincinnati and those days are not at all uncommon during this part of the year. That morning ""his son"" showed up to work with nothing to keep himself hydrated and no money to purchase any food or a beverage during our daily (1 hour) lunch break. He was told repeatedly by me, where to find drinking fountains in the building we were working on top of. He chose not to take advantage of this and while I'm not a licensed physician I believe anyone with a small amount of common sense would know this dehydrated and hungry state would greatly decrease one's ability to perform their job. If this was an isolated incident ""his son"" may have been given the benefit of the doubt but since this was one of numerous times this same exact scenario had played out, it was decided it would not be allowed to continue. While you cannot make someone eat or drink anything if they choose not to, you can however require them to perform their job whether they decided to eat and hydrate or not. During this same day ""his son"" was asked to retrieve tools and supplies from the trucks in the parking lots and to be a ""gofer."" He obviously took offense to this as he was showing his displeasure by using a number a four letter words but, due to his lack of experience and skill it would not have been logical to send a veteran employee with everyone else on the job having no less than 5 years of experience to retrieve materials while ""his son"" sat on the roof not knowing what to do due to his lack of knowledge. There is a time and a place to teach someone that knowledge but, a 100+ degree roof in the mid-day sun is not the place especially when their mind is on food and water because they were unable to eat lunch for monetary reasons. As for Mr. Spade returning ""mredd6's"" phone call out of courtesy when he believed ""his son"" had been let go, it was exactly that, a courtesy call as you would have to believe ""his son"" being over the age of 21, no longer living under his father's roof and one who would have you to believe he is totally self sufficient in his daily life, would be able to handle his problems with his employer on his own. ""His son"" is not a minor, he didn't require a work certificate or permit and wasn't paid as a minor. I would like to say while no employer is without their faults, Bill Spade's employee's records of service speak for themselves. As I said, I have been with his company more

Beware of Mr. Spade 7/5/2011

Last Thursday my son had an issue with some coworkers and spoke to Mr. Spade about it. Mr. Spade told my son because of his attitude to leave and call him back on Monday to see if he wanted to work. I called Mr. Spade to inquire about what was happening. I was told by Mr. Spade that he was talking to me as a courtesy and the issue was between him and my son. To make a long story short, he fired my son for insubordindation listing the fact that I had called him. This follows the same antics from a week before when Mr, Spade was harassing my son about not eating lunch. I had purchased my son a car and Mr. Spade was stating how can you afford a car and not have enough money to eat lunch. Would you have anyone do work for you that treated his employees this way. more

Poor experience 12/1/2010

We have found this contractor to be unpleasant to work with. Adequate at the start when he presented himself but when problems were found with his work, we experienced terrible customer service. Only contact with a review agency alerting them of his unprofessionalism and poor workmanship prompted a response from Spade which was offensive. Follow up service by others found several installation problems. I have since heard similar stories from others. Beware or avoid. more

Geothermal heat pump installation 10/25/2005

Bill Spade Electric, Heating, and Cooling installed two geothermal heat pump systems in our existing home shortly after we moved in. We were very pleased with the customer service and the installations. The geothermal systems have worked efficiently since they were installed and have saved us a substantial amount of money on our utility bills. We also had them do some electrical repairs which we were equally as pleased with. We would highly recommend them for anyone interested in having a geothermal system installed. Pros: courteous, good value, good service more
