Great Studio - One Bad Apple 9/1/2011

As a devoted student of Bikram yoga, I enjoyed attending this studio and the sister studio downtown for over 5 years. The vast majority of the instructors are enthusiastic and supportive, and I learned something new from them during each class - Cristin, Yuki, Aiko, are just a few of the fabulous and devoted intstructors on staff. Sadly, I have stopped attending both the downtown studio and the brooklyn heights studio because of the attitude of one instructor who consistently belittles her students during class. After finally convincing a good friend recovering from knee surgery to attend a class with me, I was mortified to have Courtney tell her during her second class that if she wasn't going to do the poses (she was hesitant on a few that really stretch the knees) then she wasn't welcome to remain in class. I find the disgust that Courtney displays for new students, or students who are not progressing to her satisfaction, inexcusable. Instead of offering corrections by explaining how to get more deeply into a pose or improve your form, she simply ridicules and condemns. I thought long and hard about putting this review online. I wish Courtney would take some time to think about her attitude in class and the negative effect she has on others. more

Best experience ever -- I'm addicted! 2/18/2008

To someone who HATES exercise, this was a rare treat! The first week I went and felt like I wanted to give up -- it was hard and painful but I decided to commit to 1 month. By the second week, it became much more enjoyable and very quickly became what I looked forward to -- I would rush there from work. Unfortunately, as I may be pregnant, several gynecologist told me that I absolutely cannot do this while in the early phases of pregnancy although they admit to know nothing about the practice. I am in severe withdraw and am trying to find another substitute but have been unable to yet. I cannot wait to go back ASAP! It feels like you are inside of a womb -- spectacular changes in your body almost immediately! The mind is also quieted and calmed! Pros: Superb teachers for the most part and feeling of more accomplishment with heavy sweating! Cons: Some of the classes are huge and crowded and one of the instructors is utterly uninspiring. more

Great Class.....Fellow 4/9/2007

I took my first bikram yoga class recently and it was a great expereince. I found the class very challenging as it was only the second yoga class I have ever taken and I felt very light headed. The instructor was very encouraging and patient in explaing the different positions. After the class I will admit I felt very weak but I decided that it would be something I would try again to give myself a challenge as I would improve over time. more

Sweaty and Sweet 1/13/2007

Bikram on Montague is truly wonderful. Started going there a few months ago as my days at the gym started to get boring. 4 months later I am the thinnest and most in shape I have ever been in my entire life (i'm almost 30). Everyone who teaches at the studio is super friendly and encouraging. True they all have different styles, some more aggressive than others, but the variety allows different workouts--my personal favs are Tina, Aiko, and Troy, just to name a few... But seriously, if you are looking for a new experience, try their weeklong offer, bikram has really changed my life both physcially and mentally. Did i mention the studio is perfectly clean too? Give it a shot--push through the first couple classes when the heat makes you a bit dizzy and I promise in a couple weeks you will find yourself addicted! I love Bikram in Brooklyn! Pros: cleanliness, instructors, workouts Cons: wish it was closer to my house more

A life changer 4/9/2003

Bikram Yoga has changed my life - I sleep better at night and have more energy. I have really enjoyed practicing in Brooklyn. The teachers are great and attentive - it doesn't get too crowded, even on the weekends. The changerooms and showers are the nicest of any Bikram studio in the city. They have some good packages which make the per class fee pretty reasonable more

Teachers who make a 100degree room a joy 4/9/2003

Took my first bikram classes here and fell in love with the studio. Teachers were supportive and attendive - well versed and professional. The studio facilities were new and clean and the people you take classes with are friendly, peaceful, lovable brooklynites who love and support each others mission of getting a good workout via bikram. 7 days for $20 for first timers! Try them out!! Pros: new studio, location more
