My Wife and I moved to Staten Island when we first had our daughter. I work full time and my wife is a teacher who had to go back to work. We enrolled our daughter when she was 4 months old and she still attends bigbirds playhouse 4 years later. she loves it and we have never felt guilty leaving her to go to work. her safety is not a concern and i as well as my wife will make sure we let every review website know how great this school is. my sister is moving from brooklyn and this year is the first year her son will be attending the school. Linda and staff our hearts are with you all right now... see you tuesday! Samantha and chris are looking forward to their first day back!!!! more

I am a mother of 2 girls both of my girls started Big Bird Playhouse as infants. I loved the school and my girls loved the school. when my children started kindergarden they were well advanced and i thank Big Bird Playhouse for that. Beautiful Projects and activities, the teachers and staff treated my children as if they were their own. I am a single mother and this situation is so sad and i feel bad for Mrs. Linda because she does take a lot of pride in molding children. If i were to have another child down the line i would not hesitate to send him/her to them. more

WARNING TO PARENTS, I Always suggest when enrolling your child into a daycare/preschool do the research on parents reviews and experience. I am a local and went to visit the school for enrollment. The school facility looks well kept and colorful which i confused with friendly for children. Don't be fooled by appearance when it comes to your child Ed. and safety, like i almost was. when leaving your child for first few weeks of school parents and staff Should work together to make the best experience out of a stressful 1st day for children. At BIG BIRD PLAYHOUSE you will be asked to leave all crying kids at gate and go home with peace of mind. DOn't do it to your kids!! When a school doesnt give you full assess to facility( RedFLAG). On my visit I was able to presence a teachers horrible treatment to toddlers, a toddler girl was yelled at- asked if she was not normal and what was wrong with her? in a demeaning manor because of her posture on line when entering classroom.. Over heard teachers criticizing the childrens outfits, like if their fashion style affects their education. another commented how-""this kid is getting on my Fuc^&* nerves"". when adressing a toddler?? : ( know your kids bc most cant really express themselves so if your child is shy- look for signs of crying or looks of terrified and dont blame it on anxiety. If your child is active then beware of how their short temper will respond. I was lucky enough to realize this and take my child to another school, but felt really bad for the kids that remained and had to withstand the abuse. Don't do it to your most cherished possesion. your kids. :(:( more

First of all I would like to start off by saying this school is the worst school ever.I cant believe that I kept my child there for the whole year. The teachers are horrible. The director is just like them so disrespectful all they did was yell all day. They are not even teacher material they never taught my child anything its just a place for kids to run around.they use to say that my child dosent know anything mean while at home she knew a lot thanks for her mother so if my child didn't knw anything what the heck were her teachers doing all day. Ill tell u one thing she sure didn't learn anything from them.she learns a lot from her educated mother.this school is beyond horrible.I cant even find words to describe how horrible this school is. I don't even understand how its still in bussines till now.they need to shut down cause there just taking up space for nothing.so for all u mothers out there beware of this crazy uneducated school think twice before putting your child there don't even go to the open house because they will fool you with there fake smiles and speeches that's how they got me.I don't understand how this lady wrote a good review about this school they probably payed her to write something good cause as you see no one wrote a good review besides Linda which is the director of this school. So when there's more bad reviews then good you know there's a problem with this picture. When I drive by the school my child closes her eyes and says mommy I hate this school there so mean and disrespectful.how pathetic is that for my 5 year old child to say that.so you know that its a horrible extremely horrible school.I so regret it .so for all you mothers out there beware of this school DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD IN THIS SCHOOL UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO BE TRAUMATIZED. I GIVE THIS SCHOOL ZERO STARTS A BIG FAT ZERO .THE WORST SCHOOL ON THE ISLAND. I cant believe how people could actually say what a great school. There crazy. I can keep going but you know what I'm not wasting my breath on this uneducated school. it just feels good letting this all out. JUST BEWARE! more

I would like to start off by saying that I have had all three of my children in Big Birds Playhouse throughout the years. They were there from infants to pre-k. \r I can't believe the things I have read on this site. Harsh to say the least. I have never had a problem with the staff or school. All of my children were well adjusted and happy. The facility is always immaculate. I know for a fact that there is a cleaning crew every night. \r As far as the curriculum my children were beyond prepared for kindergarten. I always received praise from each of their teachers. Their classwork and projects were always beautiful.\r Their pre-k teachers (which were all different) were wonderful. \r I have recommended this school to my friends and anyone I meet. I have never heard a bad review. \r I have always felt the director was personable and accommodating. She puts a lot of resources into her classroom. Classrooms are always beautifully decorated and filled with supplies. \r I say this as a teacher myself. more

First I would like to start off by saying that I never post any kind of reviews on websites, but dealing with this so called school has left such a bad taste in my mouth, that I had to share my experience so that perhaps other parents won't make the same mistake that I did. I sent my daughter to this school, and from day one I truly should have known better! I definitely did not particularly care for the director upon our first encounter, but I overlooked my initial doubts because the school seemed nice and is conveniently located near my home. I ended up enrolling my daughter in the school and she adjusted quite well to her teachers and to the other students, which was quite a relief because I feared she would take a while to get acclimated. Her teachers were very nice and always provided me with feedback whenever I had questions or concerns. The director, however, was not so accommodating. Anytime I needed to speak to her she was either not there or too busy on the phone to set aside a few minutes to discuss anything with me. She is a very rude, nasty, uneducated, classless woman who has no business running a school! She has no compassion and has the attention span of a goldfish! She is vulgar and talks down to the parents that keep her in business as well as her staff. How this beast of a woman was able to stay in business for so many years is beyond me! I kept my daughter there because she was comfortable and happy with her class. Had I known I was dealing with a monster who hates kids and people in general, I would have never set foot in that place! Parents beware! more

I cannot in good conscience recommend this school to anyone. There is so much wrong with this place, I dont even know where to start. I pulled my 3 year old son right out of this school after his teacher (Ms. Louise) told me that he runs around the classroom like ""Forrest Gump"" and suggested that he get evaluated for ADHD. This woman was not trained in SpecialEd, so to even suggest that he has ADHD was completely wrong. Linda I who wrote the review below, is the school director Linda Indelicato who is the most uneducated, nastiest, arrogant woman I have ever met in my life. Countless times I wanted to meet with her to either discuss my sons progress or even pay tuition, I was rushed out of her office because she was either too busy or on her way out. The registation process / initial meeting was a whole 10 minutes long. The whole registration package included a medical & maybe an emergency contact form. I cant even remember. The line she consistantly uses ""big birds have been serving parents for over 21 years"" gimmick is nothing but crap. That means nothing when word on the street is that this ""school"" she is running is horrible. I'm not saying this because I am a disgruntled parent. The classrooms are horribly overcrowded & unorganized. I have spoken to numerous parents, and they ALL seem to have the same reaction when I mention this school. They roll their eyes and then I hear story after story. its actually quite comical. Had I known these things before I enrolled by son, I would have avoided this place like the plague. more

THE BEST SCHOOL IN STATEN ISLAND....NOT! First I would like to start by saying the person who wrote the last review and gave it 5 stars, Linda Indelicato, is the Director..Owner. Yes you can take a lunch ""hour"" not hours and leave the school attended by whoever! She is rude , obnoxious uneducated and unprofessional. Who knows if she even graduated high school. The school is over crowded! I have heard her being rude to the children and the staff. I kept my child there for a short time. She is cheap but not worth having my child unhappy She should not be in business! I do not know who she bought off to stay open for 21 years .....parents BEWARE! more

Horrible 1/26/2012

my daughter attended big bird for 3 years. Miss shena was good but every other teacher was horrible. Miss louise was a push over and my daughter was always telling me that the teachers called her bad. Ms Julie made my child not want to go there at all! I would not send my child there. more

the worst 5/19/2011

I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone. My three year old child went to this school for a year. The staff does not know anything about discipline. It's called a playhouse for a reason - it's just a place where kids run around like animals and play all day. They let them do whatever they want, and I didn't want my daughter in an environment like this. Miss Louise is dishonest with the parents. I asked her to avoid giving my child sugar, because she has ADHD, and she gave her the sugar. The director is never there. If you would want your child in an unorganized setting then this might be good, but I just don't trust them. Very overcrowded too! more
