While on a weekend trip to Portland, I was introduced to this great place. This place was so great that I actually went here twice in the span of 24 hours! Although it looks like a chain, this is the only Best Baguette around. The interior resembles a squeaky-clean fast-food joint complete with touch-screens to keep track of orders. Best Baguette is known for their variety in Vietnamese and French-styled sandwiches, but also serves as a bakery (you can find things from croissants to loafs to sweet or sour buns), gelateria, smoothie shop, and Vietnamese desserts shop. I've eaten at quite a few different Vietnamese sandwich joints before, but what I love about this place is how fresh the ingredients are - from the meat to the vegetables and the bread (which is baked on-site and makes quite the difference!). I would recommend the banh mi thit nuong. Smoothies here are delectable and are quite consistent. Also, I had a pate chaud here, and while it was decent, it wasn't great - nothing compared to the sandwiches. The prices run about $2.95 - $3.50 for sandwiches, a great value. Lastly, because the place is so clean, this might be a good place to introduce people to these style of sandwiches who would otherwise never try them due to the dirtiness of other Vietnamese/French delis.
Pros: Delicious sandwiches, value, consistency
Cons: If there are a lot of customers, the wait can be a little long
