Rich history 1/15/2006

This museum spans two ships, the most recognized being the Star of India. Located on the waterfront, the museum is crammed with wonderful maritime history. You could easily spend hours here, if history or sailing is of interest to you. Although not at the top of my list for where to bring guests, it is a great place to visit and I've been numerous times. more

A great day to spend 1/15/2006

Along the San Diego waterfront, below the sleek new downtown high-rise buildings lies the San Diego Maritime Museum. San Diego's history is tied to the sea, and the museum's collection includes a collection of vessels that illustrate port activities the world over. Allow about three to four hours to see everything at the San Diego Maritime Museum. If you have less than an hour, either enjoy it from the dock, or concentrate on just one ship. The Maritime Museum appeals to most age groups, but there are stairs and gangways to negotiate, and tight spaces in the submarine. The Star of India has a play area where younger children can dress up in costumes and play sailing games. Due to their original construction, some parts of the historical vessels are not handicapped-accessible more

Ship Museum.... 8/19/2005

Well, this museum is mainly two ships. One, beign the Star of India is a old trading ship that now resides in the harbour. During the summer, movies are shown on the deck, and you can walk throgugh the ship. It is not uncommon to see school groups spend the night, working as if on an actual voyage. You can go below decks and into most of the cabins. The other, is another ship (boat, more or less) that has been converted to a floating museum. It a very unique mueseum, and pretty cool. However, if you miss this, don't feel to bad. Over all, the admission is cheap and worth it if it is your first time. Enjoy! more
