Illuminated Garden 8/29/2005

I have visited the Bellevue Botanical Gardens for their holiday light display several years now. They are adding and making it bigger and more beautiful every year. I highly recommend visiting this time of year. It is very nice to stroll through the property to see all of the displays. I can't imagine all of the work that goes into creating a display like this, it must take a small army! A donation for your visit is requested. I have not made a special trip to visit the garden any other time of year. I suppose it is because there are so many other great parks in the area. more

Beautiful local park, extravagant lights during the holidays 8/21/2005

If you need to get away from it all and you can't manage somewhere tropical, Bellevue Botanical Gardens is a great option. This large park offers beautifully groomed gardens as well as large expanses of greenery to roam. They have a Dahlia Garden, and Alpine Rock Garden (we saw a little snake sunning himself on one of the larger rocks one day), a Fuschia Garden, a Waterwise Garden, and more. During the holidays, the garden offers Garden D'Lights, where there are thousands of lights used to create botanical displays--this is a very well attended events, and it can be hard to find parking--the park itself also gets very crowded. Give Bellevue Botnaical Gardens a try--they have something for all seasons. more

  • Overview
An expansive garden, the whole contains several interesting parts: Look for the Waterwise Garden, which demonstrates how to grow sun and shade plants without needless water consumption. Or, come summer, visit the fuchsia garden--it contains nearly 100 varieties, all being tested against shifts in light and temperature. In the Yao Japanese Garden, you'll find arrangements that follow traditional and contemporary Asian ideas about gardening. Elsewhere gardens feature colorful perennial borders and ground covers.

    Features
The Botanical Gardens' gift shop contains garden goodies, books on plants, cards and other gift items. And if you're looking to do some weed picking, dial 462-2749--there are volunteer opportunities aplenty.
