Great place for young violinists 10/18/2005

Bearden Violin shop in St. louis is a great find for those who play the violin. Mr. Bearden is an accomplished Violinist who provides lessons and you can see many of his accalades posted on the walls. They are neat to see and fun to read. They also sell and rent violins. We rented one for our daughter and then upgraded to a full size when she needed it. The transition went great and we have the option to buy the instrument with some of the money we paid to rent it going towardd the total. It’s a great way to find the right violin. more

A Local Institution for String Needs 8/16/2005

As a violin student, I know that when I need anything at all from rosin to an actual new instrument that Bearden Violin will have everything I need. They've been in business for what seems like forever and have always had a reputation for delivering the best products and best service. My violin need bridge work done on it, so I took it to Bearden and was given an exact cost, very explicit date to expect it back and they even offered to loan me an instrument if needed. (I assume that's because I'm a long time customer) They give incredible service with incredible results at a reasonable price. I wouldn't trust my instrument with anyone else. more

Owner Message
  • Bearden Violin Shop was founded in St. Louis by P.C. Bearden in 1943 and established a fine reputation for restoration and violin making. After his retirement in 1963, his son Gene Bearden, former violinist for the St. Louis Symphony, became the owner of the business and moved the shop to its present location. Gene Bearden began dealing in old master instruments including those of Stradivari, Guarnari and Amati and placed these instruments in the hands of many professional players as well as collectors. In 1975, he was inducted into the International Society of Violin and Bow Makers and is a member of the Appraisers Association of America. He is now assisted by his son Gregory Bearden, graduate of the Chicago School of Violin Making, who now has over 20 yrs experience in repair, restorations and violin making. The shop specializes in sales and restorations and the making of new instruments.
