ONLY ORDER THE PIZZA AND THE BARONES ITALIAN SALAD!! That is why we go. It's why everyone in L.A. and beyond goes. It's the reason people that moved away from LA come back... The ...

Worst

Went to Barone's last night...y favorite pizza usually. Last night orderd two pepperoni pizza's and the were both burned. Either the ovens aren't working properly or

Great pizza and salad, good new location 9/7/2008

My extended family has been going to Barone's for 50 years, 20 years for me. I always have their antipasto salad and pizza. Only a couple of pizza places in New Haven, CT can beat Barone's. With the old location you always wondered if it would be replaced by a high rise, so I'm glad they found a new place. The service is fine, and has not changed despite what other reviewers said. I had an entree once and it wasn't as memorable as the pizza. Pros: Great pizza and salad Cons: Entrees not up to the pizza more

Very Disappointed 8/27/2008

I have been going to this restuarant for over 30 years and ever since they moved to their new location the place has gone into the toilet. The son of the old owner obviously has no idea on how to run a restuarant which has been an institution for over 50 years. The service is way below average(which used to be great). They charge for valet parking which the new location is in Van Nuys...paying to park at a restuarant in Van Nuys is unheard of. Also they added live entertainment which is terrible...when we walked in one of the other people in our party asked if it was karaoke night (and he wasn't joking) the entertainment was that bad. As for as the pizza what I used to classify as the best i can say it is just OK. Though the horrible service and outrageous prices make it seem worse than it really is. Then when i went to complain to the guy who inherited the restuarant comes over to the table dressed like it was 70's night was in a hurry to get away and had no interest in taking responsibilty for his actions of wrecking this valley institution. I hope this guy comes to his senses and figures out how to run a restuarant. Pros: Poor service...overpriced...valet parking in Van Nuys Cons: Pizza is still OK more

Bad Italian food 7/19/2008

Barone's is in walking distance from my home. It is so disappointing that the food is less than mediocre. The alfredo sauce is gummy not yummy, the marinara is lackluster. I have not found one entree that was good. It's pricey for bad food. The service is spotty. I would recommend Barone's only for those who like to sit at bars and drink. Pros: nice booths Cons: mediocre booths, service is lacking more

Broken Hearted Too :( 6/8/2008

We have celebrated many birthdays at Barone's, the food has been great, but in some occasions the service has been very bad. That changed when one night a waiter by the name of Jesse made eating at Barone's very pleasant. Unfortunately last night Jesse was not around and we ended up with a young waitress. She ignored us and treated us like she was doing us a favor. We requested to talk to the owner who actually brought her to talk to us and instead of apologizing for the bad service, she just argued like a spoiled teenager. The owner did not take action and just stood there. We later learned she was the owner's daughter. We will never return. more

broken hearted... 5/11/2008

I grew up going to Barone's, it was always a special place for me and my mom. Tonight I was excited to take my son there for Mother's Day and was thoroughly disappointed by the bad service. The most amazing thing is that I think it was the owner's daughter (or relative) who was waiting on us. I understand that one adult and a small child don't promise a huge tip but we were ignored! The pizza is still yummy but I really don't care for bad service. This won't be the last time I have Barone's, however, next time it will just be take-out. Pros: rectangle pizza!!!! Cons: bad, bad, bad service. the owner should be ashamed of himself and his staff. more

I don't get it 3/6/2008

Yes, this restaurant is big and well-lit, and the service is good, but I really don't like the pizza. It is so greasy and thin and the crust is too hard to eat. The prices are too high for what is really just a family restaurant. I understand the history and tradition of the place, but I was disappointed. I do like one of their salads that has some rigatoni in it, but overall, just average food. Pros: size, ambiance, parking, good for kids Cons: food, prices more

Amazing Pizza! 2/6/2008

Hands down the best Pizza in LA! Ever since I moved out to LA from NYC, I have not been able to find pizza that lives up to my NYC standards. This place absolutely did the trick and maybe beat out some of my favorites back east. Even if you live on the West Side, it is worth the drive. Pros: Food, especially Pizza Cons: Parking - no parking lot, you have to valet more

Tasty Pizza & Great Music 1/17/2008

I didn't realize that Barone's had live music but they did (it was Thurs night). It was a great backdrop to the delicious pizza! The staff was friendly and it was overall a great experience. Pros: Pizza, Great Staff Cons: None more

Discriminates against the elderly and smaller appetites. 1/1/2008

My parents have been dining at Barone's for over 40 years. Last Saturday night we decided to go there before attending a theater performance. We ordered their usual, Barone's salad for two and a medium pizza. The waiter seemed very confused that that was all we were ordering. My dad was not that hungry so he was just going to have a piece of pizza and my mom and I were to share the salad and pizza. The waiter came back a few seconds later to inform us we would have to order an appitizer if we wanted to stay because there is a $10.95 minimum per person and no sharing on any meal. Isn't the point of ordering a pizza to share it? Who eats an entire pizza by themselves? We asked to see the manager and she said the same thing. We were never asked if we were going to order dessert or drinks later. We were just asked to leave. It wasn't very busy that night either so letting us have the table would not have been a problem. I won't lie to you, Barone's has excellent pizza. But their rule makes no sense and is discriminating against the elderly. My parents are on a fixed income and cannot nessessarily afford $10.95 per person for dinner. They also share because they don't have large appetites. Unfortunately, after 40 years of patronage, Barone's has lost our business. Pros: Food is very good Cons: discriminating more

Best Pizza EVER!!! 11/15/2007

My family has been going to Barone's for years, the food is excellent and the Pizza is absolutely phenominal!! The sauce is mild and a tiny bit sweet. not like every where else that just slops some tomato paste on it and calls it pizza sauce, (you know the kind that gives you heartburn). the crust is crispy on the outside but soft and bubbly on top and for those who love pepperoni, this is the best there is! The service was awesome, the waiter was on top of refilling drinks and coming around to make sure everything was ok. Not once did we have to ask for a thing after ordering. we were seated right away and everyone was friendly and helpful. i recommend Barone's highly to anyone who wants great italian food and the best Pizza to be found anywhere! Pros: Everything Cons: Not much that I could see more

Authentic Italian Pizza! 11/9/2007

After living in Italy I severely missed the pizza, but at Barone's it is as close as you can get without taking a flight across the Atlantic! Whatever their "secret" ingredient is, it works! I always get the Barone's salad, I love the dressing. 99 % of the time I get pizza, but once I decided to get the fettucine alfredo and was not disappointed at all. It was very creamy but not "heavy". I actually like the ambiance, but the staff could be a little bit friendlier! Pros: Pizza! Never have to wait for a table Cons: Service more

Best in town, not just the Valley..since 1950 or so. 7/30/2007

Best pizza in town, without a doubt! Pros: good pizza and red gravy place Cons: jparking and location more

Great pizza, horrible service... 2/17/2007

I'm new in LA, but Barone's pizza already is my favorite. Pros: Great pizza Cons: Horrible parking service more

Comfy, yummy and unpretentious. 2/9/2007

I've been to Barone's only twice and loved it both times. Just made reservations for tonight. High backed red vinyl booths, lounge singers, mellow unpretentious clientelle. Service on the week night was fantastic: charming, conversational, efficient. Service on the friday night I was there not as good but efficient and they were busy. Exellent comfy yummy italian food including a good variety of vegetarian meals. One of my favorite places in the valley. Pros: Good food & ambiance. Cons: Can get a bit loud on the weekends. more

Not what it used to be 1/1/2007

We used to frequent the Toluca Lake Barone's quite often and when that was closed we visited the other location, but not more than a couple times. Now that has moved to Oxnard St and I can honestly say tonight will be our last visit to Barone's. $29.00 for their 'famous' steak and the only thing I can think of is gristle, fat and flavorless. The atmosphere hasn't changed much since we were last there(The Old Heidleburg circa 1995.) Pros: None Cons: Parking, service, Value more

The same square pizza of my youth! 11/17/2006

I finally got around to checking out Barone's at their new location on Oxnard. It was a little off my beaten path but ultimately worth it. Pros: Ambience, Food Cons: Parking more

Avoid wasting your time and money 7/30/2006

I have been a patron at Barones in both their past locations for over 30 years but after dinner there last night 7/30/06 I will no longer waste my time and money putting up with the inefficiency and frustration of trying to enjoy a meal at their new location. The Piza was fine.. up to par.. It stops there. The waiter was horrrendous. He got the drinks wrong which we accepted anyhow since we did not want to re-order and wait again. The salads were incorrect and then he forgot the dressings which took another five minutes. The Pizza was served as we started our salads. When the check came it was un-readable. I'd suggest some ink in their print machine (or are they tring to hide some prices). Then to top it off the additional parking fee was $3.50 for this out of the way, so called "family restasurant", Beverly Hills prices for low end Valley fare. Thye evening was a waste and it will not happen again. Good bye Barones. Pros: Pizza only Cons: Service, efficiency, parking more

Horrible 7/27/2006

Everything about this place was terrible. Parking is bad, the wait for a table is long, the service is horrible and the food is even worst. Just make sure you have plenty of patience!! Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Best pizza in the San Fernando valley...I should know, I'm a native! 7/12/2006

I am a native from Sherman Oaks, CA. My family have been patrons of Barone's since the early 70's. By far the best pizza I've had here in Los Angeles. Pros: THE BEST PIZZA IN L.A.! Cons: Parking might be a little scarce in the new location. Expect delays until grand opening rush is over. more

Delicious Thin Crust Pizza, salad and more! 7/9/2006

Finally Barone's is re-opening in their new location. Pros: pizza, salad and more Cons: at times unfriendly waitresses more
