Although this jewelry store is conveniently located in the Financial District. I DO NOT recommend this store. My husband purchased my engagement ring here and once it was being set, they promised they would call him no more than 5 days that it was ready to pick up. He had paid for the ring entirely prior to leaving. He called 7 days later to inquire and was told that it would be ready the next day. He called each day for over a full two weeks and was told the same thing. The person whom had sold him the ring grew increasingly nasty with him, as if my husband was aggravating him. My husband explained to him that he had had a trip planned to ask me to marry him and that he needed to have the ring. The gentleman told him Ill call you when its ready! and proceeded to hang up on him. When I found out, I called the store and asked to speak with the owner and told him what was happening. He did apologize and said that this was a long time employee. The ring was suddenly ready the next day. We went back together twice to have the ring cleaned and to speak with them regarding the incorrect documentation for the appraisal that we had paid for. We were ignored in the showroom each time. Having them correct the appraisal documentation was quite painful. They should not have made the errors but even so, it should have been corrected quickly with an apology NOT attitude as if we were wasting their time. I do not need to mention that we paid a SUBSTANTIAL amount for the engagement ring. We then found a wonderful jeweler whom we have patronized for our wedding rings, cleanings and subsequent purchases. Upon discussing our Barmakian experience with others, we found it a common experience. Apparently, once the engagement ring (the big ticket item) is purchased, this particular location cant be bothered with you. Every other couple that we spoke with ultimately went elsewhere (or to another Barmakian location, in one case) after their initial experience because it was similar to ours.
