Best

Came after work on a friday night (which happened to be halloween). The combination of dj dirty's ecclectic set (dude goes allover the place) and everyone's costumes really made ...

Worst

I went here with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night and the line was pretty long, but the wait was much longer. I guess the place was so packed that no one could get in until...

What's up with the cover? 9/17/2005

This place was great before they started charging to get in. The DJ is decent but not always worth paying for. The drinks are expensive ($9) but strong. The crowd is pretty eclectic which is always interesting. If you are a group of girls plan on getting groped. Overall it's a pretty good time. Pros: Dancing Cons: Cover Charge more

A Unique Vibe 5/31/2005

Have to love the black, signless frontage right on Grand Ave in Santa Monica. I've been on different nights and the crowd has always been hip and relaxed. The drinks were strong and the bartendresses were hot and friendly. One thing I didnt care for was that the music got too funky-loud sometimes but different strokes....one other plus is the huge doormen they have....even when it gets a little "urban," I felt safe with those guys watching over things. Pros: good vibe, hot bartendresses, strong drinks more

Cool without the 'tude 12/28/2003

I love this place. Please stay away. A few years ago Venice & Santa Monica was the place for surfers and hippies with kids. Now artists and creatives have moved in. They still like the laid back vibe of the westside but needed something besides a frat house version of a dance club or surf bar. And this place is it. The music is amazing, the mood is ultra sexy. The patrons however, don't have that nose in the air attitude that you get at similar clubs in Hollywood. This is Venice/Santa Monica after all! That's what sets this place apart. It's all the cool with so little of the crap! The bartenders are friendly when they have time and while the door guys are HUGE, (They don't have birth certificates, they have construction permits) they're completely cool. more

Are you kidding? 10/19/2003

Wanted to celebrate my birthday. Reviews along with the NO COVER, NO DRESS CODE, convinced me this was the place. I called everyday for 4 days to reserve a table - no response/call back. At the door, one of my guests was told that he couldnt go in becasue of what he was wearing. What happened to NO DRESS CODE? Was also told that none of my messages were received and there were no tables. Once inside, within 5min we were escorted to a table.. hmmm thought there weren't any? The rude batenders started off w/drinks that were strong and reasonable @ $8, however as the crowd grew, the drinks became watered down and shot up to $12 (SAME DRINK). One redeeming grace of this place was the MUSIC!! Amazing mix of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Old School. It was crowded, get there early, or you won't get in. Pros: Music, Mix Crowd Cons: Staff, Crowded, Expensive drinks more

Hidden Hot Spot on the Westside 8/9/2003

My friends and I just discovered Bar Copa. We had a great time there. If you are looking for a laid back lounge/club atmosphere on the Westside with some flava, then Bar Copa is it. It had a cool, unpretentious very mixed crowd.... and they played great hip hop and R&B music. I think this may be my new favorite spot.... I'm definitely going back. Pros: Good Music, Cool Mix of People, Unpretentious more

always a great time 6/8/2003

This place is a gem! After frequenting the Main St. area bars and consistently being disappointed by the scene (contrived), Bar Copa is a God-send. First, I have to say the music is always perfect - good mix of old school R&B, hip-hop, soul and some pop. Has a New York feel to it. Laid back, diverse crowd and potent drinks. It's pretty small, so get there early (it fills up fast). Also, NO COVER, which completely rocks. Pros: great music, laid back atmosphere, great people Cons: drinks are pricey, fills up fast more

Hot... 2/14/2003

I stumbled upon bar copa one night after being to both Circle car and Fro bar down the street. I love it and continue to go back. Fun crowd and good service more

This is an awesome hang out! 1/27/2003

Bar Copa has a great casual, laid back atmosphere. Great mix of friendly people. Drinks are on the expensive side. Also, it's in a great location so if it gets too busy and you're tired of waiting in line, you can go to the many other bars nearby! Pros: close to other bars, good parking Cons: expensive drinks more

Editorial
  • The Scene
The owners of the Room expanded their nightlife vision with another bass-heavy hipster hang on the Westside, enlivening this once lackluster space known as the Pink and the Mix. A word-of-mouth ethos--no sign, no advertisements--and a low-lit, cave-like interior carries on the tradition of the Room, but also adds flair with its shades of deep red, worn wood and exposed brick. A narrow bar runs down the side, leading to a DJ booth and lounge area. The contempo couches and tables in back are cast aside when the DJs deliver a hot and heavy dose of classic hip-hop, soul and rare groove.

    The Draw
The inviting music and casually dressed crowd sets a laid-back, yet versatile vibe where you can chat, chill or cut it up. The underground appeal and oceanside locale attracts a geographically diverse crowd of beach babes, city slickers and urban scenesters.
