Editorial review from Citysearch 5/29/2013

Consider developing a customer service department up grade. I changed my memebership but they continued to bill me at the old price. I called them and was on hold for over 25 minutes. The staff at the location in San jose has not been trained on customer service, no one makes eye concact or even gives a freindly smile. The equipment is so old and worn out. The only thing good about this place is it is cheap! more

Worst Company and Fitness Center Ever Dont Join!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/4/2011

Don't ever join this company. They lie and are a scam and have horrible customer service. I signed up for two years and then they said I signed up for three and could not cancel my membership. It took forever and difficult to work with corporate and no one would help. I prefer Right Stuff. Yeah it might be smaller but they have way better equipment that is up to date and new. No more trying to adjust the equipment and be there forever trying to loosin the adjustments because someone tighten them way too much before you but this is not why Ballys is soooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. Its because of there horrible customer service and how they rip you off of your money lieing. I regret ever joining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A big fat zero if I could. They don't deserve the one star. more

DO NOT SIGN UP AT THIS GYM. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!! 3/17/2009

DO NOT SIGN UP AT THIS GYM. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!! If i could give this location zero stars, I would. Let me tell you about my horrible experience at the San Jose location on Aborn Road. I got a coupon to try the place for free and, right when I walked in, they tried to to give me a sales pitch-- from the protein drinks, to the personal trainers, to the membership. I felt as if I was at a car dealership. After I repeatedly said no to signing up, they brought me into a room and brought over their second line of attack, some chubby Chinese guy named James C. He bragged about how he competed in shows and now he's a personal trainer at Bally's on Aborn Road. Being as fat as he is, I wonder how is he going to help me get into shape. I told him I just wanted to use the machine and that I wasn't interesting in joining. Then he started making belittling comments at me because I didn't want to join. He said I wouldn't amount to anything if I didn't sign up. Why come at all if I wasn't going to sign up? He said he wanted to help me, but when I asked him to show me how to use the equipment, he said ""I don't work for free."" He kept going on and on about me staying at home and using my bench press rather then using their equipment if I wasn't going to sign up. I knew he didn't want me there. Then he calls over another worker and tells her ""This guy doesn't want to sign up, but he wants to use our gym."" I've never felt so unwelcome anywhere in my life. Any thought of joining this gym went straight down the drain after hearing the words out of JAMES C mouth. This doesn't include the ridiculous fees they try to throw on you. Join another gym. It's cheaper and the customer service is a lot better. Bally should train their workers better, rather than having them harass the customers. I will not recommend this place to anybody! If you see JAMES C, just say, ""C' ya later,"" or ignore the guy and don't ever sign up from him because he'll make you feel 2 feet tall if you don't want to join. Oh, I forgot, when he realized he wasn't going to make a sales off me, he walked out the room and said, ""Have a good life."" I don't know whether to be angry or laugh. Of course it's sarcasm for ""Thanks, for wasting my time idiot."" And if you come here, and unfortunate enough to met him, this is what's in store for you too. I rather be fat then have to deal with this type of insulting customer service! Pros: nothing Cons: James C- The chubby personal trainer more

Mislead members in signing 3 year contract. 11/8/2007

I and my wife had joined Ballys. We were fooled into believing that ours was a month to month contract. The staff seemed very enthusiastic in our health and came up with these different schemes. in the end I paid for mine and my wife's membership for three years although I had canceled it after 1.5 years. Cons: Mislead members. Only want to make money without any regard for members. more

Not customer-centered 2/15/2007

Definitely think twice before getting involved in a gym that is more worried about its bottom line than your workout experience. Pros: basic gym equipment/facilities Cons: deceiving contracts, parking, telemarketers, crowded classes more

Good national coverage, get in on a good deal 8/13/2006

As the previous user stated - they have more pricing schemes than Cingular and they are stuck to maintaining contracts. That being said, I joined Bally's in Milwaukee before relocating to the valley, and I must say that it was nice to have national coverage. The midwest has never heard of 24 or ONE before....Thus it makes Bally's attractive for business travelers who hate hotel equipment. This gym is simple and easy to use if you've had any direction in equipment before...there's a bit of the macho time around 5-7 but that's normal anywhere...I've actually been impressed that it is not as overbearing as some other gyms. Pros: no pressure workout Cons: avg. equipment, pricey if you get in on a bad short plan-Great club if you are disciplined to attend for many years more

I'd rather be fat 12/21/2002

The only thing at this gym that got smaller was my bank account. I fell for the hard pressure sale routine and ended up paying a fortune! 2 years after joining, there were new members signing up for next to nothing but they wouldn't let me convert. Every time I went there, I could feel my blood boil knowing that I was being ripped off. I paid to get out of my 3 year contract - joined Right Stuff and haven't looked back. Cons: expense more
