Dr. Bilir earned his medical degree from Hacettepe University in Turkey. He went on to complete his internship in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL, and finished his Internal Medicine training at S.U.N.Y. in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Bilir did his fellowship at the University of Michigan where he stayed on as Faculty for one year, and was awarded the Young Investigator Award by the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. Prior to joining Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology, Dr. Bilir was asked to join the University of Colorado as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of the Liver Transplantation Department where he oversaw rapid growth of the program and was involved with the first living donor transplantation in Colorado. He authored over 20 publications and received a NIA Grant for Liver Transplantation. In addition, his work was recognized by the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.
