My partner and I visited the Artist's Loft on Vashon Island last weekend. It's a very pretty place - the room and garden were clean and decorated immaculately. The hosts are clearly talented home decorators and landscapers. However, they are less skilled in the area of hospitality. \r
\r
Our interactions with our host made us feel as if we were a burden to her. She complained that running a B&B was ""just a job like any other"" and told us if you use the hot tub ""speak very quietly, or not at all."" The kicker was, while we discovered that some guests were being invited to the main house for a sit-down breakfast, we were given box orange juices and muffins that looked like they were bought at 7-11 and told to eat in our room. \r
\r
This experience left us feeling unwelcome, which was not what we came to Vashon for, so I thought I would pass on a warning to those who go to B&Bs for warmth and hospitality that you may not get it here. \r
If aesthetic beauty is more important to you, however, then the risk of 7-11 muffins for breakfast may be worth it, because as I said, the place is beautiful.\r
